Abstract:This paper makes an effective exploration on the POE in domestic.Especially on the POE of Qianjiang New District Riverside Pedestrian System,the author made assessments based on the operation effect feedback through questionnaires,field investigation,research,pho tograph and etc.The author focused on the site characteristics,user characteristics and indepth study of the facilities comfort on the space form environmental characteristics and environ ment facilities on infrastructure and environment decoration.Based on analysis results,the author f urther explored the user preferences and related issues of city balcony.Moreover,the author then put forward some useful conclusion and strategies to improve the city riverside pedestrian area based on the feedback of operation Effectiveness.

Abstract:It is generally accepted to improve the public transport system, but most of the research is on the macro level, mainly on the transit oriented land use patterns; on the micro level, there is little research on the relationship between public transportation and residential area. This paper summarizes the construction characteristics of current residential area in China, and compares with relevant excellent examples about the layout of residential area in foreign transit oriented cities, and then puts forward the transit oriented residential planning model suitable for China, in order to promote public transit and build transit metropolis.

Abstract:Concerning the closed residential communities design and using residential streets as urban roads due to traffic congestion in China,this paper reviews the devel-opment of spatial distribution of residential communities and exist-ing problems.Based on a summary of development trend and experi-ence from other countries,the pa-per discusses spatial distribution of residential communities in China and corresponding roadway plan-ning and design principles.The pa-per proposes a multi-level spatial pattern planning and design meth-odology for residential communi-ties,and presents the four key de-sign aspects: spatial scale,travel speed and traffic volume control,green design and hierarchy design.Finally,the paper points out that roadway planning and design of res-idential communities should empha-size the quietness and safety,while coordinate with spatial distribution of residential communities and ur-ban transportation system.

Abstract:Land use characteristics are very important reference factors in road planning. The traffic flow nature is determined by the road position and land type beside the road, especially in the development zones of China. This paper put forward six problems concerning road planning method in development zones, including road network, road rank, road gradation, road transect, external road and freight road. According to congenital limitations of land use in these places, higher requests in land planning are required.

Abstract:Investment in road infrastructure is an integral part of the development strategy of any country. The challenge for policy makers, road planners, and engineers is to provide roads that meet their functional and structural requirements in a cost-effective way. The spectrum of options ranges from earth to gravel, to low-cost surface treatments, to full paving with asphalt or concrete. The key question is, which roads to pave and which ones not to pave. Standard practice in rural road project evaluation is based on an economic analysis that uses a discounted comparison of the costs and benefits of paving versus nonpaving solutions over the project life cycle. The benefits identified are usually related to travel time and vehicle operating cost savings, and fail to capture important but hard-to-quantify benefits such as climate resilience, dust avoidance, land value improvements, benefits to nonmotorized transport users, and the reliability of the road in the rainy season. This paper presents a paradigm shift and introduces the Systematic PAving DEcision model—SPADE—which considers variables under a multicriteria analysis that affects the paving decision in a systematic and holistic way, while maintaining economic justification.
An Analysis Of Livable City Planning: A Community View

Abstract:The existence and development of cities is to make citizen's social production and daily life a better one. However, in the current process of urbanization, too much attention is paid on the industrial production. Little research to date has been focused on the livability of cities. Given this, this paper first reviewed the theoretical research and construction practice of livable city at home and abroad and then analyzed the problems of the new residential areas and old street areas from the community perspective. By using the case study and comparative analysis method, the paper also analyzed the interaction between China's urban growth pattern flaws and urban land use structure, as well as their impacts on existing residential pattern called residential district pattern of Modernism. The impact of the New Urbanism TND model on China's community construction is investigated and the difference between the residential districts and TND communities is also analyzed by using a practical case study in Gemdale Zizai City. Finally, the Chinese livable community model based on TND is proposed in the study, which provides a reference for theoretical research and construction practice on China's livable city.

Abstract:In order to improve the conditions of urban road surroundings and make cities livable, a new development of environment-friendly urban roads is presented. It features three key points, i.e., sunken greenbelts, sidewalks built on stilts, and limited roadway width. First, considering natural water cycling, a greenbelt with its own drainage facilities is elaborately designed lower than the roadway. As a result, the greenbelts can be used not only for roadways separation, but also for rainwater infiltration into soil. If the total width of greenbelts is too small to meet the requirement of rainwater infiltration, a design of sidewalks built on stilts is a good choice. The proposed design can achieve ecologically to compensate groundwater with rain. This.promotes the only drainage system of traditional urban roads to the infiltration-detention-drainage system. Second, since summer solarization on asphaltic road surfaces could produce harmful poison, it is recommended that the roadway be shaded by roadside trees as much as possible. Therefore, the roadway width should be limited and its maximum value can be determined depending on the average crown diameters of local trees. The road design approach is practical, particularly for most cities short of water in north and northwest China.

Abstract:The major contemporary in road pavement engineering is related to the creation of green and sustainable infrastructures, e.g., reduction of environmental impacts, increase in traffic safety, and transportation efficiency, etc. This review presents the recent trends in research and the technical solutions developed so far to address these challenges. After the analysis of research status in the past decades, a novel technology system of eco-friendly pavements is proposed considering two solutions, materials modification and structure improvement. The construction of an eco-friendly pavement can be achieved thanks to several different technologies ensuring permeable, noise-reducing, self-luminous, and exhaust-decomposing properties as well as apporting lower heat absorbing and enhanced anti-/de-icing characteristics. A systematic review of these technologies is presented pivoting on four main aspects: technical principle, material and structural composition, performance evaluation, and engineering application. The current trend in road engineering is combining the pavement infrastructure with various eco-friendly functions, e.g., water permeability, noise reduction, low heat absorption, exhaust gas decomposition, and anti-/de-icing. Finally, the review lists the drawbacks of the existing technologies, including high cost, single function, etc., and depicts the future developing direction and architecture of the next generation of eco-friendly pavements in which the road infrastructure should have more environmentally friendly functions than the existing technology.
Conceptual Design of Dedicated Road Lighting for City Park and Housing Estate

Abstract:We propose dedicated road lighting, which is significantly superior to the existing lighting technologies for the city park and housing estate. This dedicated lighting employs freeform surfaces to effectively control the optical field of the LED source to produce three kinds of illumination modes for the curved road, straight road, and the small public square, respectively, perfectly matching the road conditions of the city park and housing estate. A mathematical model of freeform illumination design is presented to achieve a conceptual design of this road lighting, and a numerical technology for solving this design problem is introduced for the first time, to our knowledge. An illumination model of this conceptual design is constructed. The experimental results of the conceptual design tally closely with the target. This dedicated road lighting, integrated with energy saving, healthy lighting and artistic beauty, provides a beautiful landscape for the city park and the housing estate at night, and will play an important role in improving quality of life of the urban inhabitants.

Abstract:The theory of sustainable development has received worldwide recognition. Toward applying the theory of sustainable development to road planning and design, firstly we study the definition and basic features of sustainable development of a road transportation system. Secondly, through connotation analysis, the relations between a road transportation system and an economy, society as well as the environment are indicated. Thirdly, we investigate two practical cases: the lane widths of urban roads and the urban bicycle transportation system. For the first case, the minimum lane width is obtained by theoretic calculation. After that, the relation between section capacity and lane width is achieved through site observation. We conclude that properly adjusting the lane width and increasing the number of lanes is beneficial to transportation efficiency. For the second case, we put forward four basic principles and two key tasks in bicycle transportation system planning and then propose two policy suggestions for developing bicycle transportation system.

Abstract:In this paper, on the basis of investigating the traffic capacity and cross-sectional form of the concrete strip roads, the technological and economical possibility of concrete strip roads replacing the forth class full width concrete and asphalt pavement was discussed. By analyzing structural combination and drainage characteristics of the concrete strip roads, the structure combination forms were recommended. Then the mechanical characteristics of the concrete strip roads were analyzed. Finally, the design method for thickness of concrete strip slab and the relevant design nomogram were presented.

Abstract:Based on the existing basic documents and by searching and revising the information about park road,10 typical integrated parks in Shanghai were chosen to investigate the road network structure of integrated parks.Grade proportion,non-linear coefficient,and connection degree index,three key indexes which affect the road network structure were selected,grasshopper of Rhino5.0 was used to calculate the indexes,and variance analysis and interval estimation were performed by SAS8.1 to research the structure,basic rules and designing strategy of road network in integrated parks,which provided references for planning and designing the roads in integrated parks.
