Abstract:The evolutionary economics advocates that the "co-evolution" model which features the historical time concept should be substituted for the equilibrium model adopted by the mainstream economics. The economic analysis of the former includes many factors omitted by the latter such as the institution,culture and habits,which provides a new paradigm for modern economic study. The challenge of the evolutionary economics to the mainstream economics is its advocacy that the driving force of economy should be studied in a dynamic and evolutionary perspective. And the impact of the evolutionary economics on the mainstream economics is that it indicates a turn-around of economic study paradigm,which foresees the coming of a new era of diversified economic study paradigms.

Abstract:Modern evolutionary economics has been gradually affecting almost all sub-fields of economics and policy-making since Nelson and Winter published An Evolutionary Theory of Economic Change in 1982.China's Evolutionary Economics has already gone through ten years and it is very important and urgent for us to think about how to make it develop further in the next ten years.This paper firstly introduces the main international academic societies and journals of evolutionary economics,then presents the research achievements made by the leading scholars of evolutionary economics in China,and finally discusses how to promote the internationalization and localization of China's Evolutionary Economics through fostering academic independence and self-consciousness.

Abstract:The roots of Ecological Economics can be found at the very beginning of Classical Economics, where physical wellbeing was the object of research, instead of the allocation of resources. Although Neoclassical Economics abandoned this objective early on, other efforts to study the biophysical foundations of the economic processes persisted and were inherited by modern Ecological economists. The fundamental difference between Ecological Economic theory and Neoclassical Economic theory is that, Ecological economists attempt to open the black box of economic processes with modern scientific tools, while Neoclassical economists expand the black box without interest in the mechanisms inside. However, in the current Ecological Economics framework, the social sphere of discussion is dominated by translated mainstream versions of Ecological Economics, rather than its original biophysical form. In the next stage of its evolution, Ecological Economics must address such inconsistencies to provide institutional insights based on the biophysical foundations of the subject, to fully open the black box of how human society extracts material and energy from the ecosystem, transforms them into physical wealth, and distributes that physical wealth. Also it must provide policy implications on how to carve out a sustainable economic institution.

Abstract:We propose that a deeper integration still between psychology and evolutionary economics has value to offer by offering us a new perspective on the dynamics that underlie the behaviour that drives evolutionary change. We introduce psychological perspectives on the behaviour whereby change is originated and adopted by complex economic systems through a self-organising process of diffusion manifesting in behaviour change. We draw on cognitive, personality, affective, social and behaviourist psychology and neuroscience, and experiment with Jungian analytical psychology. We then draw these perspectives together into an integrated model of human behaviour as the outcome of psychological driving and restraining forces and indicate the importance of overcoming restraining forces relative to driving forces for behaviour change. By way of example, we show how this offers us a perspective of a new depth on the dynamics underlying self-organisation by meso-rule diffusion—a popular model of evolutionary economic change. We conclude by indicating avenues for further research in formalisation, adapting psychometric techniques and application of appreciative theory.

Abstract:This paper probes into future research trend of economic geography on base of study on evolution history of relationship between economics and economic geography.Economic geography was interwoven with economics in period of classical economic geography,in which two disciplines influenced on one another;from 1930s to 1980s,economics was in a leading position while economic geographers had little effects on development of mainstream economics;absorbing related theories of economics,economic geography fulfilled cultural,institutional and relational turns,meantime,the mainstream economics appeared a geography turn and initiated the New Economic Geography; since 1980s,the evolutionary thoughts has increasingly received attentions of economists.The economic geographers accepted core concepts of evolutionary economics and began to set up framework of evolutionary economic geography from 1990s.According to historical review,this paper argues that evolutionary economic geography will be next important dialog between economics and economic geographer.

Abstract:Evolutionary economics has developed into an academic field of its own, institutionalized around, amongst others, the Journal of Evolutionary Economics (JEE). This paper analyzes the way and extent to which evolutionary economics has become an interdisciplinary journal, as its aim was: a journal that is indispensable in the exchange of expert knowledge on topics and using approaches that relate naturally with it. Analyzing citation data for the relevant academic field for the Journal of Evolutionary Economics, we use insights from scientometrics and social network analysis to find that, indeed, the JEE is a central player in this interdisciplinary field aiming mostly at understanding technological and regional dynamics. It does not, however, link firmly with the natural sciences (including biology) nor to management sciences, entrepreneurship, and organization studies. Another journal that could be perceived to have evolutionary acumen, the Journal of Economic Issues, does relate to heterodox economics journals and is relatively more involved in discussing issues of firm and industry organization. The JEE seems most keen to develop theoretical insights.

Abstract:This paper assesses methods and components of formal evolutionary-economic modelling. Methods are broadly classified into evolutionary game theory and selection dynamics, evolutionary computation and multi-agent models, each with relevant subcategories. The components or building blocks are organized into diversity, innovation, selection, bounded rationality, diffusion, path dependency and lock-in, coevolution, multilevel and group selection, and mechanisms of growth. The number of alternatives that has been proposed for each category is vast, making it difficult to comprehend the variety of assumptions and formalizations underlying existing evolutionary-economic models. Our survey aims to clarify for each model component the choice range, formal expressions, associated assumptions, and possible techniques for formalization. Our study is unique in that it provides more information about the formal details of specific model components and is considerably more inclusive than earlier reviews.

Abstract:Biological evolution is realised through the same mechanisms of birth and death that underlie change in population density. The deep interdependence between ecology and evolution is well-established, but much theory in each discipline has been developed in isolation. While recent work has accomplished eco-evolutionary synthesis, a gap remains between the logical foundations of ecology and evolution. We bridge this gap with a new equation that defines a summed value for a characteristic across individuals in a population, from which the fundamental equations of population ecology and evolutionary biology (the Price equation) are derived. We thereby unify the fundamental equations of population ecology and biological evolution under a general framework. Our unification further demonstrates the equivalence between mean population growth rate and evolutionary fitness, shows how ecological and evolutionary change are reflected in the first and second statistical moments of fitness, respectively, and links this change to ecosystem function.

Abstract:Abstract Eco-evolutionary game dynamics which characterizes the mutual interactions and the coupled evolutions of strategies and environments has been of growing interest in very recent years. Since such feedback loops widely exist in a range of coevolutionary systems, such as microbial systems, social-ecological systems and psychological-economic systems, recent modeling frameworks that unveil the oscillating dynamics of social dilemmas have great potential for practical applications. In this perspective paper, we overview the latest progress of evolutionary game theory in this direction. We describe both mathematical methods and interdisciplinary applications across different fields. The ideas worthy of further consideration are discussed in prospects, with the central role of promoting cooperations in a changing world.

Over the past couple of decades or so there have been increasing moves within evolutionary theory to move beyond the neo-Darwinian principles of variety, selection and retention, and to incorporate development. This has led to a richer palette of concepts, mechanisms and models of evolution and change, such as plasticity, robustness, evolvability, emergence, niche construction and self-organization, This opens up a different framework for understanding evolution. This paper sets out the main characteristics of the recent and ongoing ‘developmental turn’ in evolutionary theory and suggests how these might inform a corresponding ‘developmental turn’ in evolutionary economic geography.

Abstract:Economics and biology have long been overlapping and mutually enriching fields. We contribute to this cross-fertilization by spelling out the implications for economic theory of some recent insights from evolutionary neurobiology. We note that dynamic homeostasis, a core feature of life processes, has shaped social interactions at varied stages of evolution – from the patterns of competition and cooperation among early life forms to the complex process of human cultures. The resulting homeostatic perspective is not compatible with several leading economic theories but does provide a biological footing for promising concepts such as ecological rationality, heuristics, heterogeneity of economic agents, and complex, self-organizing dynamics.

Abstract:Evolutionary biology, ecology and ethics: at first glance, three different objects of research, three different worldviews and three different scientific communities. In reality, there are both structural and historical links between these disciplines. First, some topics are obviously common across the board. Second, the emerging need for environmental policy management has gradually but radically changed the relationship between these disciplines. Over the last decades in particular, there has emerged a need for an interconnecting meta-paradigm that integrates more strictly evolutionary studies, biodiversity studies and the ethical frameworks that are most appropriate for allowing a lasting co-evolution between natural and social systems. Today such a need is more than a mere luxury, it is an epistemological and practical necessity. In short, the authors of this volume address some of the foundational themes that interconnect evolutionary studies, ecology and ethics. Here they have chosen to analyze a topic using one of these specific disciplines as a kind of epistemological platform with specific links to topics from one or both of the remaining disciplines.

Abstract:At present, the discussion on the dichotomy between statics and dynamics is resolved by concentrating on its mathematical meaning. Yet, a simple formalisation masks the underlying methodological discussion. Overcoming this limitation, the paper discusses Schumpeter's and Veblen's viewpoint on dynamic economic systems as systems generating change from within. It contributes to an understanding on their ideas of how economics could become an evolutionary science and on their contributions to elaborate an evolutionary economics. It confronts Schumpeter's with Veblen's perspective on evolutionary economics and provides insight into their evolutionary economic theorising by discussing their ideas on the evolution of capitalism.

In order to better understand the development of EEG studies, this paper employs multiple bibliometric analyses. Specifically, it examines the temporal evolution of keyword co-occurrence network and the reference co-citation network of EEG publications during the last few decades to reveal the temporal evolution and spatial distribution of EEG publications, scholarly communication, research fronts, and intellectual structure of the scientific field.

Abstract:This study presents a systematic examination of the paradigm shift towards mechanisms facilitating sustainable economic development, which has been instigated by the recognized deficiencies in conventional growth models pertaining to social, environmental, and economic dimensions. The discourse encompasses critical topics, including sustainable growth policies, environmental economics, sustainable entrepreneurship, poverty reduction strategies, green marketing and branding, and sustainable tourism. While discernible progress has been achieved, persistent challenges in areas such as inequality, climate change, resource management, and poverty necessitate further scrutiny. Future research endeavors may delve into understanding the motivations shaping sustainable development mechanisms, refining metrics to assess the impact of environmental entrepreneurship, and formulating strategies to address the intricate challenges associated with multifaceted poverty reduction. This shift towards balanced economic activities that promote environmental and social wellbeing is indispensable. Systematic, sustainable transformation encompassing governance, empowerment, renewable energy, and investments aligned with socio-ecological goals is imperative. And the impetus for sustainability integration is currently propelled by technological innovation, evolving consumer preferences, and widespread adoption across diverse sectors. Abstract:Eco-evolutionary dynamics, or eco-evolution for short, are thought to involve rapid demography (ecology) and equally rapid phenotypic changes (evolution) leading to novel, emergent system behaviours. This focus on contemporary dynamics is likely due to accumulating evidence for rapid evolution, from classical laboratory microcosms and natural populations, including the iconic Trinidadian guppies. We argue that this view is too narrow, preventing the successful integration of ecology and evolution. While maintaining that eco-evolution involves emergence, we highlight that this may also be true for slow ecology and evolution which unfold over thousands or millions of years, such as the feedbacks between riverine geomorphology and plant evolution. We thereby integrate geomorphology and biome-level feedbacks into eco-evolution, significantly extending its scope. Most importantly, we emphasize that eco-evolutionary systems need not be frozen in state-space: We identify modulators of ecological and evolutionary rates, like temperature or sensitivity to mutation, which can synchronize or desynchronize ecology and evolution. We speculate that global change may increase the occurrence of eco-evolution and emergent system behaviours which represents substantial challenges for prediction. Our perspective represents an attempt to integrate ecology and evolution across disciplines, from gene-regulatory networks to geomorphology and across timescales, from contemporary dynamics to deep time.
