Abstract:In this paper, we consider a class of neutral stochastic differential systems with variable delays and give sufficient conditions to ensure that the zero solution is asymptotically stable in the mean square by means of a generalisation of Banach's contraction principle. These conditions do not require the boundedness of delays, nor do they ask for a fixed sign on the coefficient functions. The results are shown to improve the previous globally stable results derived in the literature.

Abstract:With the linear matrix inequalities (LMI) method, this paper investigates the stability of a class of hybrid systems with uncertain nonlinear subsystems. Based on single Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions of this system for global asymptotic stability are proposed. Furthermore, using the method of piecewise quadratic Lyapunov function, the sufficient conditions of this system for local asymptotic stability are derived. By applying the result, the sufficient conditions of stability can be formulated as a convex problem in terms of linear matrix inequalities, which can be solved by relevant software.

Abstract:A system of nonlinear stochastic functional-difference equations with finite delay is considered. By assumption, this system has a “partial” trivial equilibrium (with respect to part of the state variables). The problem under study is to analyze partial stability in probability of this equilibrium: stability is considered with respect to part of the variables determining it. The problem is solved using a discrete-stochastic modification of the method of Lyapunov–Krasovskii functionals. Conditions for partial stability in probability are established. An example is provided to illustrate the features of the proposed approach and the rationale for introducing a one-parameter family of functionals.

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, Volume 62, Issue 2, Page 924-952, April 2024. This paper provides some sufficient conditions for the existence and uniqueness and the stochastic stability of the global solution for nonlinear neutral stochastic functional differential equations. When the drift term and the diffusion term satisfy a locally Lipschitz condition, and the Lyapunov monotonicity condition has a sign-changed time-varying coefficient, the existence and uniqueness of the global solution for such equations will be studied by using the Lyapunov–Krasovskii function approach and the theory of stochastic analysis. The stability in [math]th-moment, the asymptotical stability in [math]th-moment, and the exponential stability in [math]th-moment will be investigated. Different characterizations for these three kinds of stochastic stability in moment will be established, which are presented with respect to integration conditions. These results have seldom been reported in the existing literature. The almost surely exponential stability for the global solution of such equations is also discussed. Some discussions and comparisons are provided. Two examples are given to check the effectiveness of the theoretical results obtained.

Abstract:This paper considers the problem of asymptotic stability for linear time-varying systems of the form ẋ(t)=A(t)x(t). Some new stability conditions are proposed. First, two stability conditions for nonlinear time-varying systems are given by using non-monotonic Lyapunov functions. Then the results obtained are extended to the linear case, two stability conditions with infinite integral are derived. Furthermore, by using the top-floor function, a linear matrix inequalities (LMI) condition and an eigenvalue criterion for asymptotic stability of systems are presented. Comparing with the existing results, the conditions obtained allow both A(t) and Ȧ(t) are unbounded at t=+∞. Some numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with stability analysis of nonlinear time-varying systems by using Lyapunov function based approach. The classical Lyapunov stability theorems are generalized in the sense that the time-derivative of the Lyapunov functions are allowed to be indefinite. The stability analysis is accomplished with the help of the scalar stable functions introduced in our previous study. Both asymptotic stability and input-to-state stability are considered. Particularly, for asymptotic stability, several concepts such as uniform and non-uniform asymptotic stability, and uniform and non-uniform exponential stability are studied. The effectiveness of the proposed theorems is illustrated by several numerical examples.

Existence of periodic solutions and stability for a nonlinear system of neutral differential equations

Abstract:In this article, we study the existence and uniqueness of periodic solutions, and stability of the zero solution to the nonlinear neutral system $$ \frac{d}{dt}x(t)=A(t)h\big(x(t-\tau_1(t))\big)+\frac{d}{dt}Q\big(t,x(t-\tau_2(t))\big) +G\big(t,x(t),x(t-\tau_2(t))\big). $$ We use integrating factors to transform the neutral differential equation into an equivalent integral equation. Then we construct appropriate mappings and employ Krasnoselskii's fixed point theorem to show the existence of a periodic solution. We also use the contraction mapping principle to show the existence of a unique periodic solution and the asymptotic stability of the zero solution. Our results generalize the corresponding results in the existing literature. Abstract:Practical stability guarantees trajectories of a dynamical system being bounded within a prespecified region during a specified time interval and is of great interest in many applications. For a class of linear time-varying systems described by delay differential equations of neutral type, concepts of practical stability involving both variations of the state and its derivative are introduced in terms of given estimate sets. Sufficient conditions of practical stability are established on the basis of the mixed differential difference comparison principle presented in this paper, in terms of coefficients of the systems and the given allowable trajectory bounds. For the case of time-invariant estimate sets, these conditions are also independent of delay. These results are then applied to the Lyapunov stability and positively invariant tubes of the corresponding homogeneous systems. Specifically, an algebraic condition of globally exponentially asymptotical stability is derived, which is related to the well known property of the M-matrix and is independent of delay. Finally, an illustrative example is given.

Abstract:Mittag–Leffler stability is a property of fractional-order dynamical systems, also called fractional Lyapunov stability, requiring the evolution of the positive-definite functions to be Mittag–Leffler, rather than the exponential meaning in Lyapunov stability theory. Similarly, fractional Lyapunov function plays an important role in the study of Mittag–Leffler stability. The aim of this study is to create closed-loop systems for commensurate fractional-order non-linear systems (FONSs) with Mittag–Leffler stability. We extend the classical backstepping to fractional-order backstepping for stabilising (uncertain) FONSs. For this purpose, several conditions of control fractional Lyapunov functions for FONSs are investigated in terms of Mittag–Leffler stability. Within this framework, (uncertain) FONSs Mittag–Leffler stabilisation is solved via fractional-order backstepping and the global convergence of closed-loop systems is guaranteed. Finally, the efficiency and applicability of the proposed fractional-order backstepping are demonstrated in several examples.

Abstract:This paper deals with the problem of computing Lyapunov functions for asymptotic stability analysis of autonomous polynomial systems of differential equations. We propose a new semi-algebraic approach bymaking advantage of the local property of the Lyapunov function as well as its derivative. This is done by first constructing a semi-algebraic system and then solving this semi-algebraic system in an adaptive way. Experiment results show that our semi-algebraic approach is more efficient in practice, especially for low-order systems. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this paper we are concerned with the boundedness of solutions of some nonlinear differential equations, which are neither dissipative nor conservative, having the formx″+(x, t)x′+g(x, t)=0, wherefandgare odd polynomials inxwith coefficients which are even and periodic int. Using the KAM theory for reversible systems, we prove that all the solutions are bounded whenever a sharp condition on the degrees offandgis satisfied. We also obtain a boundedness result whenf(x, t)≡0 (i.e., the equation is conservative), under some smoothness assumptions ongwhich improve the previously known ones. In this case, no symmetry conditions ongare needed.

Abstract:This paper deals with some qualitative properties of solutions to nonlinear neutral hybrid differential equations connected to ψ -Caputo fractional derivative with time-varying lags. First, we demonstrate the problem possesses a mild solution uniquely where the source function may have temporal singularities. Second, in some cases, we indicate that the problem possesses a unique mild solution under some weaker conditions than the previous one. Third, we also obtain a result on a global mild solution for the problem. Finally, the results are further enriched by studying a new type of Ulam–Hyers stability for the main equation. The main results are obtained by applying the nice inequality, first proposed and proven in this paper. Some befit examples are given to justify the applicability of the main results.

Abstract:Technical stability allowing quantitative estimation of trajectory behavior of a dynamical system over a given time interval was considered. Based on a differential comparison principle and a basic monotonicity condition, technical stability relative to certain prescribed state constraint sets of a class of nonlinear time-varying systems with small parameters was analyzed by means of vector Liapunov function method. Explicit criteria of technical stability are established in terms of coefficients of the system under consideration. Conditions under which the technical stability of the system can be derived from its reduced linear time-varying (LTV) system were further examined, as well as a condition for linearization approach to technical stability of general nonlinear systems. Also, a simple algebraic condition of exponential asymptotic stability of LTV systems is presented. Two illustrative examples are given to demonstrate the availability of the presently proposed method.

Abstract:The exponential stability problem of uncertain neutral complex system with Markovian switching is investigated in the presence of nonlinear perturbations and partial information on transition rates. The study begins to consider the related nominal systems and construct a novel augmented stochastic Lyapunov functional which contains some triple-integral terms to reduce the conservatism. Then the exponential stability criteria are developed by utilizing Lyapunov stability theory, reciprocally convex lemma and free-weighting matrices. The results are further extended to the corresponding uncertain case. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Abstract:This paper is motivated by the stability problem of nonconstant periodic solutions of time‐periodic Lagrangian equations, like the swing and the elliptic Sitnikov problem. As a beginning step, we will study the linearized stability and instability of nonconstant periodic solutions that are bifurcated from those of autonomous Lagrangian equations. Applying the theory for Hill equations, we will establish a criterion for linearized stability. The criterion shows that the linearized stability depends on the temporal frequencies of the perturbed systems in a delicate way.

Abstract:A class of linear dynamical systems subject to saturation nonlinearities and a short time delay were approximated by singular perturbation dynamical systems with saturation nonlinearities based on the notion of Pade approximation. The stability region of the approximate systems was proved to be decomposed and a convex Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) optimization model was introduced to estimate the decomposed stability region with least degree of conservativeness.
