Abstract:Based on summarizing and analyzing the development,characteristics and problems of the existing architecture of manufacturing execution system(MES),a functional architecture of MES was proposed,which was oriented to manufacturing enterprises in China.By taking the production management model as the core,the proposed functional architecture defined the main functions of the production management model and the information flows transferring between these functions.Furthermore,maintenance management,quality management and inventory management, which would affect the production,were provided as the main functional models,and the information exchanges between them and production management were also presented.Additionally,in order to ensure scalability of this functional architecture,other functional models affecting the production were also defined.Finally,an application of the functional architecture to guide the design and establishment of the MES software oriented to the process industry of China was introduced to demonstrate the practicability and completeness.

Abstract:Networked manufacturing is a trend of manufacturing industry and Application Service Provider (ASP) is its mainstream mode. In order to solve the current questions of networked manufacturing, grid technology was put forward as a feasible approach to reform the networked manufacturing system based on ASP; considering the characteristic of grid technology, a new design constructing manufacturing grid system for ASP mode was presented, and then the application architecture and the technology architecture of this system were investigated intensively. Application architecture was composed of user layer, application service layer, grid middleware layer and grid resource layer, technology architecture was composed of fabric, connectivity, resource, collective and application, and integrated Globus Toolkit with them. Finally, an application case was given. The research, development and implementation of manufacturing grid system for ASP mode provide a realizable solution for manufacturing industry. As a result, the competitive ability of enterprise would be promoted. © 2006 IEEE.

Abstract:E-collaboration and collaborative systems bring geographically dispersed teams together, and support communication, coordination and cooperation among the enterprises. Based on the collaborative design system developed by the author's lab for some automotive parts company in China, several key technologies for developing enterprise collaborative manufacturing platform (ECMP) are presented. A multi-layer architecture of ECMP is established, and the workflow of ECMP is designed. The application integration with Web services technology is explained. A four-layered ontology model for information description in ECMP is proposed. The method of constructing dynamic alliance based on multi-agent theory, and the strategies of task scheduling optimization are discussed. Finally, an application case of ECMP prototypical system is introduced

Abstract:One of the key technologies for distributed integrated manufacturing systems is to realize automatic transmission and conversion of product data among distributed and heterogeneous systems like CAD, CAPP, CAM, CAE, etc. This paper presents an Internet-based framework of product data exchange and the architecture of the framework, which uses Internet/CORBA as the communication platform and XML as product data exchange language. This framework within which, conversion of other data formats to XML format is implemented by software agents, supports exchange of structured and non-structured product data.

Abstract:Networked manufacturing enterprises need a wider support from external manufacturing resources. This paper proposes a promising service to use web-based extended manufacturing resources for product development. The system architecture and enabling techniques are presented. Manufacturing resources on the web are achieved through focused crawling and semantic web technologies. These resources are further utilized through web-based resource repositories such as part libraries. The major modules of web-based manufacturing resource service are encapsulated with web services. A case study of mould product development is presented, which promotes the networked collaborative design and manufacturing processes. Some preliminary results indicate the feasibility and scalability of web-based manufacturing resource services for networked manufacturing.

Abstract:Networked manufacturing is an advanced manufacturing pattern, born out of Internet technology and catering to an increasingly strong trend toward economic globalisation. In this paper the definition and basic features of networked manufacturing are presented, based on a review of state-of-the-art technology and an analysis of the requirements for enterprise collaboration. This paper will also give the architecture and the main functions of the networked manufacturing system, along with the related technologies. As a supportive platform for the implementation and operation of networked manufacturing systems, the Networked Manufacturing Integration Platform (NMIP) is discussed in detail. Since the NMIP must be able to support the collaboration between enterprises as well as to preserve the autonomy of each enterprise, the NMIP based on a multi-agent system control framework is put forward. This paper not only gives the system architecture and the main functions of the NMIP, but also discusses the mechanisms for the integration of applications under the NMIP environment from three aspects including integration technologies, topological structure, and realization strategies. Finally, the application of networked manufacturing in China is briefly presented.

Abstract:De-manufacturing is drawing much attention and is receiving wide support in many industries. In China, the research on de-manufacturing is still preliminary, with a limited number of publications. This article summarizes the existing work, examines the current problems, and compares the differences between the research methods used for de-manufacturing and these for traditional manufacturing systems. An environmental analysis is used; however, a comprehensive approach has not yet been developed. The analysis shows the necessity of systematic Chinese research on de-manufacturing systems with possible research directions for future work.

Abstract:Architecture for grid manufacturing system was provided. The evolution of manufacturing mode and the naissance of grid manufacturing were analyzed, and the typical architecture for grid was introduced, they are the layered sandglass structure and the open grid service architecture (OGSA). Then we analyzed the scheme of grid manufacturing for Shaoxing spinning region, based on which, architecture for grid manufacturing system was proposed. The manufacturing grid architecture absorbed the five-level framework of grid and the grid services idea in OGSA, and integrated many supporting toolboxes and protocols of Globus, which is a helpful exploration to the development of grid manufacturing system.

Abstract:The plans made by customer oriented ERP system for the whole enterprise should be executed based on the actual conditions of plants. But there are often some differences between plans made by planning floor and actual capabilities of plants because of the limits of ERP itself, dynamic characteristics of plants and a lot of undetermined factors in plants. So Manufacturing Execution Systems were created to solve this problem. They are execution oriented information systems. MES provides the critical link to fill the gap between ERP and control systems. MES can execute automatically production plans made by planning floor, extract the correct information for ERP from collected real time data. MES enables information systems to be interconnected with each other closely and production departments to work in harmony. Consequently, enterprises get maximum profits. In this paper, we explain why MES was created and introduce the development of MES. Based on MESA model, a MES functional model is proposed that comprises two major parts, one related with plan execution and plant management and the other related with data collection and processing. There are 10 functions in the model.

Abstract:Networked manufacturing is an advanced manufacturing paradigm. Application Service Provider (ASP) platform is a solution for the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to establish and implement networked manufacturing. The demands of the enterprises for the ASP services were proposed according to the analysis of information system application in the textile industry. The architecture of the ASP platform for networked manufacturing in textile region was introduced, which consisted of portal layer, specific service layer, standard service layer, platform management layer and basic layer. Then several key technologies for the realization of the ASP platform, including data integration, application service integration and component-based service development technology were discussed in detail. And an application example of the ASP platform was presented. Application outcomes indicated that this platform could enhance the collaboration between enterprises and the core competitive ability of the textile region.

Abstract:Given the significant differences between discrete and process manufacturing industries, specific integration architectures are required to accommodate the unique characteristics of process industries. In this paper, an architecture that encompasses view models, flow models and O-O models is developed, which gradually specifies the evolving design details through successive lifecycle stages of process manufacturing systems. In the architecture, products are distinctly modelled to reflect the impact of product data and to facilitate the development of customized products. A combination of object and agent concepts is adopted for building the models of process manufacturing systems. System constituent elements are respectively modelled as two types of entities: namely the objects and agents. Objects are used to describe the passive constituent entities that possess no autonomy and conduct no functions, whereas agents are used to model the active entities that possess decision-making capabilities and perform operations on objects. One important advantage of the architecture is that it provides executable models at the implementation stage, which can be directly converted into application programs coded in object-oriented languages. Some models of the architecture are further discussed in depth and an information infrastructure based on CORBA standards is proposed for integrating the distributed data sources.

Abstract:In manufacturing logistics, the selected software products and organizational processes provide reliable and suitable applications in Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). Nonetheless, because of the sudden change and enhancement of Information Systems (IS), some potential remedies are outdated and have to be reviewed and replaced with modern IS. As such, the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) frameworks can be considered as well. This paper evaluates E-Business in manufacturing logistics while reflecting advanced Supply Chain management (SCM) frameworks for SMEs, data mining and cloud computing. After evaluating the elements and issues of the change management in enterprises, this contribution focusses on Dynamic AX and Systeme Anwendungen Produkte (SAP) which is the ERP systems with reference to manufacturing logistics. In this business segment, the requirement for long-lasting and supporting remedies with technological application is fundamental. Currently, there is just a slight variation in technological application, but there is a significant change in how business flows in SMEs.

Abstract:The high-end equipment intelligent manufacturing (HEIM) industry is of strategic importance to national and economic security. Engineering management (EM) for HEIM is a complex, innovative process that integrates natural science, technology, management science, social science, and the human spirit. New-generation information technology (IT), including the internet, cloud computing, big data, and arti ﬁ cial intelligence, have made a remarkable in ﬂ uence on HEIM and its engineering management activities, such as product system construction, product life cycle management, manufacturing resources organization, manufacturing model innovation, and reconstruction of the enterprise ecosystem. Engineering management for HEIM is a key topic at the frontier of international academic research. This study systematically reviews the current research on issues pertaining to engineering management for HEIM under the new-generation IT environment. These issues include cross-lifecycle management, network collaboration management, task integration management of innovative development, operation optimization of smart factories, quality and reliability management, information management, and intelligent decision making. The challenges presented by these issues and potential research opportunities are also summarized and discussed.

Abstract:With the accelerated integration of the new generation information technology and manufacturing industry, the performance of production equipment continues to be optimized, evolved and upgraded iteratively. The production equipment model presents a multi-dimensional, multi-level, full life cycle integration development trend, which has become the key to improve the innovative capability and digital management level of production equipment. Aiming at the problems of multiple types of production equipment models, such as complex structure, difficult integration and low application efficiency, this study analyzed the relationship and interaction mechanism among production equipment models from the perspectives of life cycle, hierarchical structure and multi-dimension, and built a production equipment model architecture. Based on the model architecture of production equipment, a general multi-dimensional fusion framework of production equipment models was proposed, which takes the mechanism model as the core. This study can provide reference for the construction, integration and application of production equipment models.
