Abstract:In this letter, we propose a novel interference cancellation method which employs an iterative parallel decision feedback detector (P-DFD) with hard decisions based on minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) for multiuser- MIMO system. In the conventional P-DFD, the multi-access interference (MAI) is cancelled in parallel with the same treatment for each user. Unlike with conventional P-DFD, the proposed detectors perform detection user by user which feedback the current symbols of detected users. In order to further reduce error propagation the users are detected in an ascending order of the SNR at the output of the feed forward filter.

Abstract:A novel cost function combining negentropy and modified function was proposed in order to achieve blind adaptive multiuser detection in code division multiple access(CDMA) downlinks which only used the signature and timing of the desired user.The new algorithm managed the method of exploratory projection pursuit based on independent component analysis(ICA).The non-polynomial function simplified the algorithm and the modified function addressed the difficulty of classical independent component analysis's ambiguity.The theoretical analysis and simulation examples indicate that the algorithm has a fast convergence,good signal-to-interference-noise ratio performance and bit error rate performance in low signal-to-noise ratio and severe multiple access interference(MAI).The blind adaptive detector is not sensitive to users' number and is also suited for non-stationary channel due to its online algorithm.

Abstract:It is known that multiple symbol differential detection(MSDD) has very high complexity,which is exponential with block length of N This paper presented an improved multiple differential feedback detection(IMDFD) algorithm,which not only has low computation complexity,but also can solve the problems of error propagation of MDFD algorithm and performance degradation at low signal-noise ratio.Simulation results showed that the algorithm is effective on filling the gap between differential detection and coherent detection with extending the observation interval.And with the length of signal sequence decrement,the performance of system is boosting up gradually with a bit increase of computation complexity.

Abstract:Two kinds of receivers' structures and algorithms of time division-synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA) system based on joint detection (JD) or RAKE were analyzed. Transmission performance of these two kinds of receivers were compared through simulation considering multi-user under different multi-path fading conditions with various speeds in both uplink and downlink, and the implementation complexity was analyzed. Analysis result shows that because of multi-user signal synchronicity in downlink, RAKE receiver performs well with low complexity, while in uplink the performance of JD receiver, which is about the same as its downlink, is much better than that of RAKE receiver. RAKE receiver is sensitive to slow speed and deep fading condition, and there obviously exists error floor in uplink under multi-user condition.

Abstract:In this paper, we study multiuser detection for asynchronous uplink machine-to-machine systems with code division multiple access. We formulate the maximal logarithmic likelihood problem for asynchronous multiuser detection via joint channel gains, time delays and transmission symbols detection. We present the design for pilot sequence and propose an adaptive step-size method with low complexity to estimate time delays based on the estimated time delays of the past times. Numerical results are shown to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:The decorrelating and the MMSE (Minimum mean square error) multiuser detector for asynchronous CDMA (Code devision multiple access) system are ideally anticausal infinite memory-length detectors. As a result, in practice they have to be approximately implemented with finite-memory structure, and the process delay in detection is unavoidable. Based on the analysis of a new signal model for asynchronous system, a novel multiuser detector for asynchronous CDMA system is proposed in this paper, which is termed as DF-IC-MMSE (Decision feedback interference cancellation - MMSE) detector, It's the detection statistics that makes the DF-IC-MMSE detector basically different from other traditional ones. The DF-IC-MMSE detector can be ideally implemented with causal finite memory-length structure, and cause no delay in symbol detection. Simulations show that the performance of DF-IC-MMSE detector is almost identical to that of the ideal MMSE detector.

Abstract:The capacity and performance of code division multiple access (CDMA) systems are limited by multiple access interference (MAI) and "near-far" problem. Space-time multiuer detection combined with adaptive wavelet networks over frequency selective fading multipath channels is proposed in this paper. The structure of the multiuser detector is simple and its computational complexity mostly lies on that of wavelets networks. With numerical simulations and performance analysis, it is shown that the proposed detector can converge at the steady state rapidly and offer significant performance improvement over the space-time matched filtering detector, the conventional RAKE receiver and matched filter detector only at the time domain. Therefore, it can suppress the MAI and solve the "near-far" problem effectively.

Abstract:CDMA based third generation mobile communication adopts Rake receiver to get diversity gain for multipath signals. This paper first analyzes why traditional CDMA delay tracker fails when multipaths are closely spaced (1-2 chips apart). Then we propose a novel adaptive coherent CDMA tracking loop. This new structure uses an adaptive delay detector which is able to suppress the disturbance from neighboring multipath components. Experiments show our method can track multipath profiles with 1-2 chips apart. The proposed structure is also low in complexity. It's well suited for the downlink tracking in WCDMA/cdma2000 standard

Abstract:This paper studies the multiuser detection schemes of fast frequency-hopping/multilevel frequency shift keying (FH/MFSK) systems. We propose a modified detector of reduction of the number of candidate matrices (REC) to reduce multiple access interference (MAI). The performance of the systems with the proposed detector in a frequency-selective fading channel is compared with those of the conventional, REC and iterative interference cancellation (IIC) detector. Simulation results show that the proposed detector has the best performance in a fading channel.

Abstract:An adaptive multi-user detector was developed for direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems corrupted by non-Gaussian channel noise, which can be quite detrimental to the performance of the multi-user detectors based on classical white Gaussian assumption. This receiver simultaneously combats multipleaccess interference (MAI) and non-Gaussian impulsive noise. The channel parameters are estimated and transmitted signals are jointly detected by a simple recursive algorithm derived from the EM/SAGE algorithm. Analytical and simulation results show that the proposed technique is robust with wider applicability than conventional multi-user detectors in terms of near-far resistance and bit-error ratio (BER) when either MAI or non-Gaussian impulsive noise is dominant.

Abstract:Optimum multiuser detection(OMD) is an NP-complete combinatorial optimization problem in DS-CDMA wireless communication systems and heuristics are efficient methods for solving such problems.By analyzing the fitness landscape of the OMD problem,a series of multiuser detection algorithms are presented,which have lower computational complexity and good performance.The evolution strategy(ES) algorithm can achieve the performance of the OMD bound,and the fast iterated local search(FILS) method can obtain much better solution than that of other correlative algorithms with lower computational complexity.

Abstract:This paper puts forward a new multiuser detector named path coherence multiuser detector (PCMUD) which works in the multipath environment and can implement the multipath combination very effectively. The high coherence between multipath signals of the same user is utilized and a simplification is introduced to cut down the computation complexity as well as implement multipath combination. Although additional interference arises when it introduces such simplification, the theoretical analysis and computer simulation both show that this anti multipath PCMUD has superior performance compared with conventional RAKE receivers and other multiuser detectors in DS CDMA systems with multipath interference, especially when the offset between different paths of the same user is less than the half of the duration of one symbol. Furthermore, this new detector works well with quite small cost of computation when the number of the signals from all the considered paths exceeds the processing gain while some other detectors, such as other linear detectors, can not work.

Abstract:Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods are considered as the powerful techniques for Bayesian computation.However,it is difficult to apply them to the asynchronous CDMA systems in the presence of unknown interferences and multipath fading.In this paper,a novel Bayesian multiuser detection method is proposed to overcome the difficulty.In the proposed method,the received signal is preprocessed at first by the linear group-blind decorrelator,and then,the Gibbs sampler (a typical MCMC procedure) is employed to perform the Bayesian multiuser detection.Simulation results show that this method significantly outperforms the linear group-blind multiuser detection with a low additional complexity linear with the number of intra-cell users.To improve the performance of the proposed method,two stage Gibbs samplers are used.In the first stage,the parameter estimation with high accuracy is achieved based on the output of the Gibbs sampler and the estimated parameters are used in the Gibbs sampler of the second stage.It is seen that the detection performance is improved in comparison with that of the method using one stage Gibbs sampler.

Abstract:In a long-code uplink CDMA system, subspace method is recently proposed to estimate all users' multipath parameters and noise power based on the correlation matrix of whitened data. In this paper, we focus on performance of three typical linear receivers, known as zero-forcing (ZF), minimum mean-square-error (MMSE), and RAKE receivers, constructed from the estimated channels and noise power. All analyses are performed from a perturbation perspective and verified by our numerical examples.

Abstract:In recent years, combining multiuser detection (MUD) and channel decoding has received considerable attention. The maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion-based iterative multiuser detector greatly improves the system performance and can approach the performance of single-user coded systems. However, its complexity increases, exponentially with the number of users and can become prohibitive for systems with a medium-to-large number of users. In this paper, a reduced complexity MAP-based iterative MUD based on the use of a soft sensitive bits algorithm is proposed for coded multicarrier code-division multiple-access systems. It is shown that it can greatly reduce the computational complexity with a minimal penalty in performance compared to the conventional optimal scheme.

Abstract:In this work, we propose a novel adaptive space-time MMSE decision feedback detection scheme, which employs a structure with multiple-parallel feedback branches (MPF) for interference cancellation and combines this novel structure with antenna arrays using both diversity and beamforming configurations. Our proposed adaptive DF algorithm can be used in several scenarios, including MIMO and MC-CDMA systems. In this paper, we focus on the application to DS-CDMA systems and the use of adaptive algorithms for parameter estimation. Simulation results for an uplink scenario with uncoded systems assess the proposed MPF-DF detector against the best known schemes and show that it achieves a substantial capacity increase over existing schemes.

Abstract:In this paper, existing iterative multiuser detection techniques, including the iterative (Turbo) soft interference cancellation, the iterative improved, parallel interference cancellation, the gradient descent algorithm and the slowest-descent search algorithm, are studied. Two new iterative multiuser detection methods, namely, the simplified iterative soft interference cancellation, and the iterative slowest-ascent search algorithm, are developed and are compared with the above techniques. It is seen that the simplified, iterative multiuser detection method significantly outperforms the other methods in coded CDMA Systems except the Turbo receiver, in additive white Gaussian channels, and also it has low complexity.
