Abstract:Gradient ghost imaging (GGI) is a new imaging method that can directly extract the edge of a target from the correlation of light intensity fluctuations. However, there are problems of poor image quality and practicability in GGI. The corner point is an important target feature and has important applications in the fields of image processing and machine vision. In this paper, we propose a corner detection scheme that combines a corner detection algorithm based on curvature scale space with a GGI system, which can directly extract corner points from the reconstruction results of ghost imaging. A simulation and experimental results show that our method can acquire precise and robust corner information of an unknown target in undersampled cases, which promotes the practical development of ghost imaging.

Abstract:Since the traditional SUSAN corner detection algorithm can not distinguish inner corners and to solve the edge corners of chessboard,and to solve the problem of corner separation caused by excessive exposure,the improved SUSAN corner detection algorithm is proposed.The improved algorithm can obtain the difference of 3 pixels gray sum between two groups of nonadjacent characteristic directions,combining the threshold and difference threshold to extract the corner set. Moreover,using the symmetric distribution of the corner set to determine the centroid coordinates of the corner set as the coordinates of the corner of the position,and the coordinate values can be directly sub-pixel accuracy.Experiments show that the proposed algorithm can extract corners effectively and quickly,and the reprojection error is within 0.3 pixels.The extraction results can be used for camera calibration.

Abstract:This paper first presents a thorough survey on recent corner detection algorithm. It makes a deeply research on the principle of SUSAN and MIC algorithm, and analyses their performance respectively. It suggests a fast and robust corner detector based on pixel intensity change. The new algorithm, and other popular corner detectors, are evaluated and compared on the basis of their performance using simulative image and real image. It finds that the algorithm performs better than other algorithms on consistency, accuracy and speed.

Abstract:Boundary-based corner detection algorithm has many shortcomings,such as the error of discretization and poor localization accuracy of corner point.Based on curvature and slide windows,an adaptive corner detection algorithm is proposed.Adaptive slide window strategy is applied to select the optimal support field of boundary point.The new curvature calculation method is presented to transform two-dimension planar curve to one-dimension curve,then the singularities of one-dimension curve means the corner point on planar curve.The simulation results indicate the superiority of our algorithm to these other methods.
Corner Detection Based on Multi-directional Gabor Filters with Multi-scales

Abstract:Gabor wavelet is an essential tool for image analysis and computer vision tasks. Local structure tensors with multiple scales are widely used in local feature extraction. Our research indicates that the current corner detection method based on Gabor wavelets can not effectively apply to complex scenes. In this work, the capability of the Gabor function to discriminate the intensity changes of step edges, L-shaped corners, Y-shaped or T-shaped corners, X-shaped corners, and star-shaped corners are investigated. The properties of Gabor wavelets to suppress affine image transformation are investigated and obtained. Many properties for edges and corners were discovered, which prompted us to propose a new corner extraction method. To fully use the structural information from the tuned Gabor filters, a novel multi-directional structure tensor is constructed for corner detection, and a multi-scale corner measurement function is proposed to remove false candidate corners. Furthermore, we compare the proposed method with twelve current state-of-the-art methods, which exhibit optimal performance and practical application to 3D reconstruction with good application potential.

Abstract:Since detection result is not good enough when detecting real image using line search mechanism corner detection algorithm, a feature selection criterion based on priority and adaptive non-maximal suppression (ANMS) is proposed in this paper to control the number and density of features in the image. Experimental results show that the algorithm can detect corner more reasonable, and can be used in image mosaics well.

Abstract:Corner detection plays an important role in object recognition and motion analysis. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical corner detection framework based on spectral clustering (SC). The framework consists of three stages: contour smoothing, corner cell extraction and corner localization. In the contour smoothing stage, wavelet decomposition is imposed on the raw contour to reduce noise. In the corner cell extraction stage, several atomic corner cells are obtained by SC. In the corner localization stage, the corner points of each corner cell are located by the corner locator based on the kernel-weighted cosine curvature measure. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our framework.

Abstract:Feature detection is a fundamental and important problem in computer vision and image processing. It is a low-level processing step which serves as the essential part for computer vision based applications. The goal of this paper is to present a survey of recent progress and advances in visual feature detection. Firstly we describe the relations among edges, corners and blobs from the psychological view. Secondly we classify the algorithms in detecting edges, corners and blobs into different categories and provide detailed descriptions for representative recent algorithms in each category. Considering that machine learning becomes more involved in visual feature detection, we put more emphasis on machine learning based feature detection methods. Thirdly, evaluation standards and databases are also introduced. Through this survey we would like to present the recent progress in visual feature detection and identify future trends as well as challenges.
A Phase Congruency Based Corner Detector for Images under Different Illuminations

Abstract:Reliable corner detection is extremely important for applications such as 3D scene reconstruction, image registration and motion tracking. There are many kinds of corner detector which have been wildly used. However, the image's changing contrast and brightness under different illuminations may considerably influence these traditional detectors' response, which makes the setting of universal threshold very difficult. In this paper, a phase congruency based corner detection method is proposed. The new operator finds the corner points within an image through searching the maximal phase congruency in frequency domain. The phase information is obtained by wavelet transform with Log-Gabor filter. The result of detection is highly localized and invariant to image's illumination. Contrast experiments between the proposed detector and the widely used Harris detector have been made on both synthetic and natural scene images. The experimental results have shown that accuracy of detection and localization of corner points can be achieved with the proposed method.

Abstract:This is a review paper of traditional approaches for edge, corner, and boundary detection methods. There are many real-world applications of edge, corner, and boundary detection methods. For instance, in medical image analysis, edge detectors are used to extract the features from the given image. In modern innovations like autonomous vehicles, edge detection and segmentation are the most crucial things. If we want to detect motion or track video, corner detectors help. I tried to compare the results of detectors stage-wise wherever it is possible and also discussed the importance of image prepossessing to minimise the noise. Real-world images are used to validate detector performance and limitations.

A Practical Algorithm for Automatic Chessboard Corner Detection

Abstract:Chessboard corner detection is a fundamental work of the popular chessboard pattern-based camera calibration technique. In this paper, a fast and robust algorithm for chessboard corner detection is presented. In our method, an initial corner set is obtained with an improved Hessian corner detector. And then, a novel strategy which takes both textural and geometrical characteristics of a chessboard into consideration is employed to eliminate fake corners in the initial corner set. The proposed algorithm only requires a user-input of the total number of chessboard inner corners, while all the other parameters can be adaptively calculated with a statistical approach. Experimental results on two public data sets demonstrate that the proposed method can outperform the most commonly used OpenCV method in terms of both detection rate and computational efficiency.
Applied study on paper fibre shape characteristics extraction

Abstract:A shape characteristics extraction algorithm based on corner detection was proposed to describe the bent characteristics of paper fibre image.Adaptive sliding window strategy was applied to select the optimal support field of boundary point;the two-dimension planar curve was transformed into one-dimension curve based on the eigenvectors of boundary point covariance matrices,and wavelet transform was utilized to extract the singularities of the one-dimension curve comprising the corners on the two-dimension planar curve,the number of kinks could be obtained according to eigenvalue of boundary point and singularities of one-dimension curve,the curl index and kink index could be obtained according to the support field of boundary point,so that the bent characteristics of paper fibre were described easily.The algorithm can extract fibre shape characteristics.Experiment results showed the method's validity and effectiveness.

Abstract:Due to the low efficiency of curvature calculation in corner detection algorithms, we propose a new corner detection technique for discrete curvature estimation based on KD curvature. Firstly, KD curvature is redefined and computed for each point on the curve after edge extraction and smoothing. Then, non-maximum suppression is used for obtaining candidate corner sets. Finally, the refined corner sets are retained with false and unstable corners removed. In addition, we introduce corner strength, as a new concept, for controlling detection precision. Our experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms existing detectors in both computational efficiency and flexibility of corner detection. Moreover, the average repeatability rate and local error rate are raised about 20 percent respectively.

Abstract:In three-dimensional reconstruction,the task of corner-detecting and matching,not only is a basic part,but also has respect to veracity of the reconstruction.The algorithm introduced in this paper,with the merits of some classical algorithms,using two different conditions to make judgment,which can effectively improve the velocity of detecting,the quantity of corners,and the precision of corner-detecting.On this basis,a simple method,using the template matching,is used to match the corners.Experiments show that this algorithm is proved to be better than some other existing ways.It is simpler and more accurate,the number of matched pairs of corners which is large enough can be obtained for the next step of three-dimensional reconstruction.

Abstract:Nowadays, corner detection algorithms have been proposed by several researchers who described them contrarily, depending on their respective viewpoints to obtain the data and information as a human eye does. Basically, no researchers have come up with a technique to compare corner detectors with another’s. Thus, this study proposed to adapt the confusion matrix technique as a performance measure for corner detectors. The judgement accuracy of every corner detector will only be pleased if the actual corner points are already known. Therefore, this study is attracted to explore the accuracy of corner detectors, namely the Global and Local Curvature Scale space (GLCSS), Affine Resilient Curvature Scale Space (ARCSS), and Harris. These corner detectors were analysed using the nine characters selected from Jawi, Chinese, and Tamil characters, three characters each, respectively. This study specifically detected the true corners for these characters using the determined corner detectors. The actual corner of all these characters was confirmed through a survey of twenty respondents. The majority of marked corners by respondents were considered actual corner points. Then, the input image for all characters was converted into a grayscale image. Every image will undergo pre-processing step, the process of boundary extraction using Canny edge detector. Thus, the edge image was extracted to get the corner point by applying the corner detectors, and the corner point detected was marked on that image. Above and beyond, the study aims to introduce a confusion matrix approach as a performance measure to carry out the most outstanding algorithm in detecting the true corner points for all the tested characters. From the evaluation, GLCSS and Harris algorithms have shown good accuracy. Henceforth, the study is not trying to judge the goodness of each corner detector but only to introduce confusion matrix as a tool that can be considered to measure the performance of the corner detector.

Abstract:Based on whole qualitative analysis,this paper compares and validates merits and demerits of various edge detection algorithms in a quantificational way from several typical judgement standards for edge detection algorithms like edge connectivity,nosie resistence ability,operation complexity.By means of B cubic spline interpolation,it improves the quality of the detected images.Experiental results show that this methods can be well applied in the region of image processing.

Abstract:The vast majority of edge detection literature has aimed at improving edge recall and precision, with relatively few addressing the accuracy of edge orientation estimates which are often based on gradient. We show that first-order estimates of orientation can have significant error and this can be remedied by employing Third-Order estimates. This paper aims at estimating differential geometry attributes of an edge, namely, localization, orientation, and curvature, as well as edge topology, and develop robust numerical techniques in gray-scale and color images, applicable to a variety of popular edge detectors, such as gradient-based, gPb and SE. Second, a combinatorial model of edge grouping in a small neighborhood is developed to capture all geometrically consistent grouping called curvels, which establish: (i) edge topology in the form of potential links between an edge and other edges; (ii) an accurate curvature estimate for each possible grouping, whose performance is comparable to methods which use global and multi-scale methods; (iii) a more accurate localization of an edge. These have been evaluated using four distinct methodologies (i) traditional human annotated datasets; (ii) using coherence measure; (iii) stability analysis under visual perturbation, and (iv) utilitarian evaluation, and show meaningful improvements.

Abstract:In this paper,a novel vectorization algorithm of building' contours is proposed:firstly,the multi-scale area morphological segmentation is carried out on the aerial imagery and the binary image is generated;secondly,the edge points are recorded by applying the edge tracking technology,according to the curvature calculated at a fix low scale of Gaussian filter for each point of the contour,the corner candidates are obtained;then,angles of corner candidates checked in an adaptive region of support and a dynamic curvature threshold is used instead of the fixed threshold to get the true corners;finally,a right angle constraint is introduced to modify the lines and vectorization is completed.With all procedures above,experiments show that the proposed algorithm with high accuracy and efficiency offers a suitable and robust solution to the contour vectorization of building in aerial imagery with high resolution.

Abstract:The accuracy and robustness of SLAM critically depend on the properties of feature points. This paper presents a robust corner detection method suitable for indoor mobile robot navigation. We combine the advantages of edge-based corner detection and intensity-based corner detection. Orientation field estimation followed by image-based curvature estimation can detect corners stably and accurately. Experimental results validate the robustness of the proposed corner detector in indoor environments.
