Abstract:In [J. Math. Phys. 13, 1608–1621 (1972)], Erdahl10.1063/1.1665885 considered the convex structure of the set of N-representable 2-body reduced density matrices in the case of fermions. Some of these results have a straightforward extension to the m-body setting and to the more general quantum marginal problem. We describe these extensions, but cannot resolve a problem in the proof of Erdahl's claim that every extreme point is exposed in finite dimensions. Nevertheless, we can show that when 2m ⩾ N every extreme point of the set of N-representable m-body reduced density matrices has a unique pre-image in both the symmetric and anti-symmetric setting. Moreover, this extends to the quantum marginal setting for a pair of complementary m-body and (N − m)-body reduced density matrices.

Abstract:We verify that if M is a compact minimal submanifold with boundary in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\sum \nolimits _{i=1}^{k}\lambda _i\ge \frac{2n\pi }{e}k^{\frac{n+2}{n}}{{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(M)^{-\frac{2}{n}}$$, where $$\lambda _i$$ is the ith Dirichlet eigenvalue of the Laplacian on M. This provides an evidence for that the generalized Pólya conjecture is true. We also prove that if M is a complete and non-compact minimal submanifold in a Cartan–Hadamard manifold N, then $$\gamma _n N_\alpha (V)\le \int _M(V-\alpha )_{-}^{n/2}(x)dx$$, where $$N_\alpha (V)$$ is the number of eigenvalues($$\le \alpha $$) of the Schrödinger operator $$-\Delta +V$$ on M and $$\gamma _n$$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on n.

Abstract:It is a hard and important problem to find the criterion of the set of positive-definite matrixes which can be written as reduced density operators of a multi-partite quantum state. This problem is closely related to the study of many-body quantum entanglement which is one of the focuses of current quantum information theory. We give several results on the necessary compatibility relations between a set of reduced density matrixes, including: (i) compatibility conditions for the one-party reduced density matrixes of any $N_A\times N_B$ dimensional bi-partite mixed quantum state, (ii) compatibility conditions for the one-party and two-party reduced density matrixes of any $N_A\times N_B\times N_C$ dimensional tri-partite mixed quantum state, and (iii) compatibility conditions for the one-party reduced matrixes of any $M$-partite pure quantum state with the dimension $N^{\otimes M}$.

Abstract:A summary is presented of the properties of the coefficient matrices formed by expanding the two-body reduced density matrix in a complete set of two-electron wave functions. Calculating the relationship between the many electron wave function and these so-called two-body density matrices enables the derivation of necessary $N$-representability conditions that ensure a given matrix obeys the postulates of many-body quantum mechanics.

Abstract:We present reduction theorems for the problem of optimal unambiguous state discrimination (USD) of two general density matrices. We show that this problem can be reduced to that of two density matrices that have the same rank $n$ and are described in a Hilbert space of dimensions $2n$. We also show how to use the reduction theorems to discriminate unambiguously between N mixed states (N \ge 2).

Abstract:For a skew-symmetrizable cluster algebra ${\mathcal{A}}_{t_{0}}$ with principal coefficients at $t_{0}$, we prove that each seed $\unicode[STIX]{x1D6F4}_{t}$ of ${\mathcal{A}}_{t_{0}}$ is uniquely determined by its $C$-matrix, which was proposed by Fomin and Zelevinsky (Compos. Math. 143 (2007), 112–164) as a conjecture. Our proof is based on the fact that the positivity of cluster variables and sign coherence of $c$-vectors hold for ${\mathcal{A}}_{t_{0}}$, which was actually verified in Gross et al. (Canonical bases for cluster algebras, J. Amer. Math. Soc. 31(2) (2018), 497–608). Further discussion is provided in the sign-skew-symmetric case so as to obtain a weak version of the conjecture in this general case.
On the distillablity conjecture in matrix theory

Abstract:The distillability conjecture of two-copy 4 by 4 Werner states is one of the main open problems in quantum information. We prove two special cases of the conjecture. The first case occurs when two 4 by 4 matrices A, B are both unitarily equivalent to block diagonal matrices with 2 by 2 blocks. The second case occurs when B is unitarily equivalent to either -A or the transpose of -A. Plus, we propose a simplified version of the distillability conjecture when both A and B are matrices with distinct eigenvalues.

On the properties of the density matrix of the $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$-invariant model

Abstract:We present an ansatz of generalizing the construction of recursion relations for the correlation functions of the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$-invariant fundamental exchange model in the thermodynamic limit by Jimbo, Miwa, Smirnov, Takeyama and one of our present authors in 2004 for higher rank. Due to the structure of the correlators as functions of their inhomogeneity parameters, a recursion formula for the reduced density matrix was proven. In the case of $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ we use the explicit results of Klümper and Ribeiro and Nirov, Hutsalyuk and one of our present authors for the reduced density matrix of up to operator length three to verify whether it is possible to relate the residues of the density matrix of length $n$ to the density matrix of length smaller than $n$ as in $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. This is unclear, since the reduced quantum Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equation splits into two parts for higher rank. In fact, we show two relations, one of which is analogous to the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ case and one which is new. This allows us to construct an analogue of the operator $X_k$, which we call Snail Operator. In the $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ case this operator has many nice properties including in particular the fact that only one irreducible representation of the Yangian $Y(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$, the Kirillov--Reshetikhin module $W_k$, contributed the residue at $\lambda_i-\lambda_j=-(k+1)$.

Abstract:We calculate various quantities that characterize the dissimilarity of reduced density matrices for a short interval of length ℓ in a two-dimensional (2D) large central charge conformal field theory (CFT). These quantities include the Rényi entropy, entanglement entropy, relative entropy, Jensen-Shannon divergence, as well as the Schatten 2-norm and 4-norm. We adopt the method of operator product expansion of twist operators, and calculate the short interval expansion of these quantities up to order of ℓ9 for the contributions from the vacuum conformal family. The formal forms of these dissimilarity measures and the derived Fisher information metric from contributions of general operators are also given. As an application of the results, we use these dissimilarity measures to compare the excited and thermal states, and examine the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) by showing how they behave in high temperature limit. This would help to understand how ETH in 2D CFT can be defined more precisely. We discuss the possibility that all the dissimilarity measures considered here vanish when comparing the reduced density matrices of an excited state and a generalized Gibbs ensemble thermal state. We also discuss ETH for a microcanonical ensemble thermal state in a 2D large central charge CFT, and find that it is approximately satisfied for a small subsystem and violated for a large subsystem.

Abstract:To find whether a set of reduced density matrixes come from a common multi-party state is a hard and important problem. In this paper, (1) we introduce a method to find out some polytopes in one-party eigenvalue-space which are sufficient conditions of this problem. (2) We point out that there are some relations between the compatible conditions and the entanglement of pure states. And we show this idea more clearly in the three-qubit case. (3) We investigate the relations between the compatibility problem and the invariants of a matrix-set under some groups. Furthermore, we show that it is one of the reasons why the compatibility problems which involve the multi-party density matrixes are much more difficult than the one-party case.

Abstract:We address the problem of how simple a solution can be for a given quantumlocal consistency instance. More specifically, we investigate how small therank of the global density operator can be if the local constraints are knownto be compatible. We prove that any compatible local density operators can besatisfied by a low rank global density operator. Then we study both fermionicand bosonic versions of the N-representability problem as applications. Afterapplying the channel-state duality, we prove that any compatible local channelscan be obtained through a global quantum channel with small Kraus rank.

Abstract:We clarify different definitions of the density matrix by proposing the use of different names, the full density matrix for a single-closed quantum system, the compressed density matrix for the averaged single molecule state from an ensemble of molecules, and the reduced density matrix for a part of an entangled quantum system, respectively. We show that ensembles with the same compressed density matrix can be physically distinguished by observing fluctuations of various observables. This is in contrast to a general belief that ensembles with the same compressed density matrix are identical. Explicit expression for the fluctuation of an observable in a specified ensemble is given. We have discussed the nature of nuclear magnetic resonance quantum computing. We show that the conclusion that there is no quantum entanglement in the current nuclear magnetic resonance quantum computing experiment is based on the unjustified belief that ensembles having the same compressed density matrix are identical physically. Related issues in quantum communication are also discussed.

Abstract:We consider $N\times N$ non-Hermitian random matrices of the form $X+A$, where $A$ is a general deterministic matrix and $\sqrt{N}X$ consists of independent entries with zero mean, unit variance, and bounded densities. For this ensemble, we prove (i) a Wegner estimate, i.e. that the local density of eigenvalues is bounded by $N^{1+o(1)}$ and (ii) that the expected condition number of any bulk eigenvalue is bounded by $N^{1+o(1)}$; both results are optimal up to the factor $N^{o(1)}$. The latter result complements the very recent matching lower bound obtained in [15] (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2301.03549" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2301.03549">arXiv:2301.03549</a>) and improves the $N$-dependence of the upper bounds in [5,6,32] (<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1906.11819" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1906.11819">arXiv:1906.11819</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2005.08930" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.08930">arXiv:2005.08930</a>, <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2005.08908" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.08908">arXiv:2005.08908</a>). Our main ingredient, a near-optimal lower tail estimate for the small singular values of $X+A-z$, is of independent interest.

Apart from a simple but ingenious idea of Halasz the proof uses only classical knowledge about the zeta function, results known since at least hundred years.

Abstract:Let Mn be the Minkowski fundamental domain for the space of n × n real, symmetric, and positive definite matrices under the action of the unimodular group SLn(Z). C. L. Siegel conjectured that d(A, B) − f(A, B) ≤ C(n), for A, B ∈ Mn, where d and f are the geodesic and the reduced geodesic distances, respectively, and C(n) is a constant depending only on n. This conjecture appears in his book ("Zur Reduktionstheorie Quadratischer Formen," The Mathematical Society of Japan, 1959). By reducing the problem to the diagonal matrices in Mn, we obtain a proof.

Abstract:Compared to quaternions, reduced biquaternions satisfy the multiplication commutative rule and are widely employed in applications such as image processing, fuzzy recognition, image compression, and digital signal processing. However, there is little information available regarding reduced biquaternion tensors; thus, in this study, we investigate some properties of reduced biquaternion tensors. Firstly, we introduce the concept of reduced biquaternion tensors, propose the real and complex representations of reduced biquaternion tensors, and prove several fundamental theorems. Subsequently, we provide the definitions for the eigenvalues and eigentensors of reduced biquaternion tensors and present the Gersˇgorin theorem as it applies to their eigenvalues. Additionally, we establish the relationship between the reduced biquaternion tensor and its complex representation. Notably, the complex representation is a symmetry tensor, which significantly simplifies the process and complexity of solving for eigenvalues. Corresponding numerical examples are also provided in the paper. Furthermore, some special properties of eigenvalues of reduced biquaternion tensors are presented.
