Abstract:Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite is a class of direct-bandgap semiconductors that can be processed as thin films from solutions by low-temperature methods. Among various solution-processable semiconductor materials, the hybrid perovskites exhibit unique combination of low bulk-trap densities, remarkable ambipolar transport properties, good broad-band absorption characteristics and long charge carrier diffusion lengths, making them ideal for photovoltaic applications. Furthermore, as direct bandgap semiconductors with low bulk trap densities, the hybrid perovskite films possess remarkable luminescent properties. The bandgap of the hybrid perovskites can be tuned by crystal engineering, i.e . tuning the composition at molecular levels. These intriguing properties indicate that the hybrid perovskites may also find applications in light-emitting diodes and lasing. This paper reviews the unique properties and current research progresses of this class of dream material and provides our perspective of future directions.

Abstract:Investigations of organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite materials have attracted extensive attention due to their excellent properties including bandgap tunability, long charge diffusion length, and outstanding optoelectronic merits. Organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites are demonstrated to be promising materials in a variety of optoelectronic applications including photodetection, energy harvesting, and light-emitting devices. As perovskite solar cells are well studied in literature, here, the recent developments of organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite materials in optoelectronic devices beyond solar cells are summarized. The preparation of organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite films is introduced. Applications of organic-inorganic metal halide perovskite materials in light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, and lasers are then highlighted. Finally, the recent advances in these optoelectronic applications based on organic-inorganic metal halide materials are summarized and the future perspectives are discussed.

Abstract:As a new generation of solution-processable optoelectronic materials, organic-inorganic hybrid halide perovskites have attracted a great deal of interest due to their high and balanced carrier mobility, long carrier diffusion length and large light absorption coefficient. These materials have demonstrated wide applications in solar cell, light-emitting diode, laser, photodetector, catalysis and other fields. Comparing with their polycrystalline film counterpart, perovskite single crystals have low trap density and no grain boundaries and thus are anticipated to possess much better optoelectronic performances. Herein, we review the key progress in the development of organic-inorganic halide perovskite single crystals. Particularly, the crystal growth techniques and applications of these advanced materials are highlighted.

Abstract:Organic halogen-bonded co-crystals assembled from two or more componentsviahalogen bonds, have attracted significant attention due to their unpredictable and outstanding chemical and physical properties, which make them potential candidate materials for organic optoelectronic applications. This paper briefly summarizes the recent progress in terms of the developed fabrication methods for organic halogen-bonded co-crystals and their multifunctional optoelectronic applications. Based on the current research on organic halogen-bonded co-crystals, we further discuss the achievements as well as the existing challenges. Finally, we provide our outlooks for further studies and applications of organic halogen-bonded co-crystals.

Abstract:Organic and inorganic hybrid perovskites (e.g., CH(3)NH(3)PbI(3)), with advantages of facile processing, tunable bandgaps, and superior charge-transfer properties, have emerged as a new class of revolutionary optoelectronic semiconductors promising for various applications. Perovskite solar cells constructed with a variety of configurations have demonstrated unprecedented progress in efficiency, reaching about 20% from multiple groups after only several years of active research. A key to this success is the development of various solution-synthesis and film-deposition techniques for controlling the morphology and composition of hybrid perovskites. The rapid progress in material synthesis and device fabrication has also promoted the development of other optoelectronic applications including light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, and transistors. Both experimental and theoretical investigations on organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites have enabled some critical fundamental understandings of this material system. Recent studies have also demonstrated progress in addressing the potential stability issue, which has been identified as a main challenge for future research on halide perovskites. Here, we review recent progress on hybrid perovskites including basic chemical and crystal structures, chemical synthesis of bulk/nanocrystals and thin films with their chemical and physical properties, device configurations, operation principles for various optoelectronic applications (with a focus on solar cells), and photophysics of charge-carrier dynamics. We also discuss the importance of further understanding of the fundamental properties of hybrid perovskites, especially those related to chemical and structural stabilities.

Abstract:This chapter discusses an emerging photovoltaic material, organometal halide perovskite, which delivers a power conversion efficiency of over 20%. We start with a brief introduction of this novel material and its applications in photovoltaic technology. We present a detailed explanation of the optoelectronic properties of organometalhalide perovskites and different device architectures. We focus on the deposition methods as well as quality control of the perovskite films. Finally, we give a perspective concerning the challenges and opportunities for this promising material.

Abstract:Nanostructures of inorganic semiconductors have revolutionized many areas of electronics, optoelectronics and photonics. The controlled synthesis of semiconductor nanostructures could lead to novel physical properties, improved optoelectronic device performance and new areas for exploration. Lead halide perovskites have recently excited the photovoltaic research community owing to their high solar-conversion efficiencies and ease of solution processing; they also hold great promise for optoelectronic applications, such as light-emitting diodes and lasers. In this Review, we summarize recent developments in the synthesis and characterization of metal halide perovskite nanostructures with controllable compositions, dimensionality, morphologies and orientations. We examine the advantageous optical properties, improved stability and potential optoelectronic applications of these 1D and 2D single-crystal perovskite nanostructures and compare them with those of bulk perovskites and nanostructures of conventional semiconductors. Studies in which perovskite nanostructures have been used to study the fundamental physical properties of perovskites are also highlighted. Finally, we discuss the challenges in realizing halide perovskite nanostructures for optoelectronic and photonic applications and offer our perspectives on future opportunities and research directions.

Abstract:Single crystal is the most advantageous of the crystalline states of halide perovskites. It displays better optical and electrical capabilities than polycrystalline films and microcrystals due to their inherent structural advantages, such as free grain boundaries, long-range ordered structure, and high orientation. Single-crystal perovskite materials can theoretically enable optoelectronic devices with higher performance and stronger stability. In this review, the intrinsic physical properties of perovskite single crystals are analyzed. The most recent advances in single-crystal optoelectronic devices are reviewed, and the design principles of the devices under different application conditions are revealed. It provides potential solutions for remaining challenges, and it is expected to accelerate the development of perovskite based optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Lead halide perovskites have received considerable attention from researchers over the past several years due to their superior optical and optoelectronic properties,because of which they can be a versatile platform for fundamental science research and applications.Patterned structures based on lead halide perovskites have much more novel properties compared with their more commonly seen bulk-,micro-,and nano-crystals,such as improvement in antireflection,light-scattering effects,and light absorption,as a result of their adjustability of spatial distributions.However,there are many challenges yet to be resolved in this field,such as insufficient patterned resolution,imperfect crystal quality,complicated preparation process,and so on.To pave the way to solve these problems,we provide a systematic presentation of current methods for fabricating lead halide perovskite patterned structures,including thermal imprint,use of etching films,two-step vapor-phase growth,template-confined solution growth,and seed-assisted growth.Furthermore,the advantages and disadvantages of these methods are elaborated in detail.In addition,thanks to the extraordinary properties of lead halide perovskite patterned structures,a variety of potential applications in optics and optoelectronics of these structures are described.Lastly,we put forward existing challenges and prospects in this exciting field.

Abstract:Organic–inorganic lead halide perovskite is widely used in the photoelectric field due to its excellent photoelectric characteristics. Among them, perovskite single crystals have attracted much attention due to its lower trap density and better carrier transport capacity than their corresponding polycrystalline materials. Owing to these characteristics, perovskite single crystals have been widely used in solar cells, photodetectors, light-emitting diode (LED), and so on, which have greater potential than polycrystals in a series of optoelectronic applications. However, the fabrication of single-crystal devices is limited by size, thickness, and interface problems, which makes the development of single-crystal devices inferior to polycrystalline devices, which also limits their future development. Here, several representative optoelectronic applications of perovskite single crystals are introduced, and some existing problems and challenges are discussed. Finally, we outlook the growth mechanism of single crystals and further the prospects of perovskite single crystals in the further field of microelectronics.

Abstract:Chiral halide perovskites have recently emerged as a class of potential optoelectronic materials. In this review, we mainly aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of chiral halide perovskite crystals for optoelectronic applications. An overview of the research background and advancement of chiral halide perovskites is described. Crystal structure, synthesis, and growth methods of chiral halide perovskite single crystals are demonstrated. Moreover, the characteristic properties and optoelectronic applications of chiral halide perovskites are systematically illustrated. Finally, future research opportunities and challenges of chiral halide perovskite single crystals and related devices are provided, concluding with our perspective on the burgeoning optoelectronic field.

Abstract:<p>Even though the metal‐halide perovskites are attracting ever‐increasing interest for their breakthrough efficiencies in photovoltaics, light‐emitting diodes (LED), X‐ray imaging, and general optoelectronics, it was not until very recently that metal‐free halide perovskites become recognized, not only for their good optoelectronic performance, but also for their wide chemical diversity, tunability, lightweight, mechanical flexibility, and eco‐friendly processability. The community is turning their attention to these lightweight semiconductors, and promising results have been achieved in the initial evaluation of crystal structure and a range of properties including ferroelectric and optoelectronic properties. In this review, the crystal structure and synthesis of these materials are discussed together with the various properties that have been studied for these materials. Future prospects are further discussed for chemical diversity, structure tunability, synthetic process, potential properties, optoelectronic, and energy‐related applications.</p>

Abstract:<p>Organic–inorganic mixed halide perovskites have emerged as an excellent class of materials with a unique combination of optoelectronic properties, suitable for a plethora of applications ranging from solar cells to light‐emitting diodes and photoelectrochemical devices. Recent works have showcased hybrid perovskites for electronic applications through improvements in materials design, processing, and device stability. Herein, a comprehensive up‐to‐date review is presented on hybrid perovskite electronics with a focus on transistors and memories. These applications are supported by the fundamental material properties of hybrid perovskite semiconductors such as tunable bandgap, ambipolar charge transport, reasonable mobility, defect characteristics, and solution processability, which are highlighted first. Then, recent progresses on perovskite‐based transistors are reviewed, covering aspects of fabrication process, patterning techniques, contact engineering, 2D versus 3D material selection, and device performance. Furthermore, applications of perovskites in nonvolatile memories and artificial synaptic devices are presented. The ambient instability of hybrid perovskites and the strategies to tackle this bottleneck are also discussed. Finally, an outlook and opportunities to develop perovskite‐based electronics as a competitive and feasible technology are highlighted.</p>

Abstract:Recently, organic-inorganic halide perovskites have sparked tremendous research interest because of their ground-breaking photovoltaic performance. The crystallization process and crystal shape of perovskites have striking impacts on their optoelectronic properties. Polycrystalline films and single crystals are two main forms of perovskites. Currently, perovskite thin films have been under intensive investigation while studies of perovskite single crystals are just in their infancy. This review article is concentrated upon the control of perovskite structures and growth, which are intimately correlated for improvements of not only solar cells but also light-emitting diodes, lasers, and photodetectors. We begin with the survey of the film formation process of perovskites including deposition methods and morphological optimization avenues. Strategies such as the use of additives, thermal annealing, solvent annealing, atmospheric control, and solvent engineering have been successfully employed to yield high-quality perovskite films. Next, we turn to summarize the shape evolution of perovskites single crystals from three-dimensional large sized single crystals, two-dimensional nanoplates, one-dimensional nanowires, to zero-dimensional quantum dots. Siginificant functions of perovskites single crystals are highlighted, which benefit fundamental studies of intrinsic photophysics. Then, the growth mechanisms of the previously mentioned perovskite crystals are unveiled. Lastly, perspectives for structure and growth control of perovskites are outlined towards high-performance (opto)electronic devices.

Abstract:Metal-halide perovskites have emerged as efficient, low-cost energy materials owing to their remarkable optoelectronic properties. In particular, the dimensionality and morphology of crystallites may have a striking influence on their chemical and physical properties and therefore affect their optoelectronic applications. One-dimensional halide perovskites have superior carrier transportation in one dimension, high crystalline quality, and consequently, high quantum efficiencies and long carrier diffusion lengths, which are important for the performance of perovskite-based nanoscale optoelectronic and photonic devices. In this review, we highlight recent advances in the synthesis of one-dimensional halide perovskites and their unique properties as well as their novel optoelectronic applications. This review aims to provide an overview of the achievements in synthesis techniques and nanoscale optoelectronic applications based on one-dimensional perovskite nanocrystals.
