Abstract:The soil electrical conductivity (EC) is the reaction of soil to conduct current. It includes comprehensive information of soil moisture, soil salinity, soil temperature, soil organic matter content, and soil texture and so on, providing a wealth of information for precision agriculture. So, it is very necessary to acquire soil EC accurately and rapidly. Based on the improved “current-voltage four-terminal method”, a vehicular soil EC monitoring system was developed and was tested in the field mounted on a tractor. A plough’s six plowshares were used as the probes. Soil EC is measured while the tractor is plowing. The depth of plowing is about 12cm. Middle two plowshares were used to input a sinusoidal alternating current to soil. Inside two plowshares and outside two plowshares were used to measure soil EC respectively. Soil EC measured by outside two plowshares is used to amend the soil EC measured by inside two plowshares. Finally, soil EC is calculated in ARM. The monitoring system consists ARM, GPS module and EC acquisition board. And the EC acquisition board includes signal circuit, signal conditioning circuit and signal acquisition circuit. An ARM board with a 7-inch touch screen was used as the controller. Through the touch-screen operations, the monitoring system was controlled to collect EC information, GPS information in real-time. These information were shown on the screen and stored in the micro-SD card plugged in the ARM board. The field tests showed the vehicular soil EC monitoring system worked well in the complex environment of farmland.
