Abstract:Some 175 pressure-volume-temperature data points in gaseous phase for trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) have been measured using Burnett/isochoric methods. Burnett expansion measurements were made both at 353.15 K and at 323.15 K. Based on the pressure-volume relationships established both at 353.15 K and at 323.15 K isotherms, data were collected along isochores. Data along eight isochores were measured at the temperature range from 323.15 K to 393.15 K. Data along five isochores were measured at the temperature range from 278.15 K to 323.15 K. The pressure range is from 0.19 to 1.75 MPa. The maximum total temperature uncertainty in this work is estimated to be within ± 10 mK, the maximum total pressure uncertainty in this work is estimated to be within ± 500 Pa. The present data have been correlated with a virial equation of state. This equation has a root-mean-square deviation (RMS) deviation of 0.11 % in pressure and a RMS deviation of 0.12% in density. The purity of the sample used in this work is 99.95 wt.% with 3.4 ppm of water.

Abstract:Sixty four vapor pressure data points for trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) have been measured for the temperature range from 243.15 to 393.15 K. The maximum total pressure uncertainty of these data is estimated to be within ± 1.0 kPa. The purity of the sample used in this work is 99.95% with 3.4 ppm of water. Based on this data set, a vapor pressure equation for CF3I has been developed. This equation contains four coefficients and correlates the measured vapor pressures within ± 0.03%.

Abstract:A new vapor pressure equation of CF3I was developed and the normal boiling point was determined. A new gaseous equation of state of CF3I was developed to represent the PVT properties, the maximum deviation and RMS deviation are 0.41% and 0.11% for pressure and 0.49% and 0.12% for density, respectively. The saturated liquid viscosity of CF3I was measured from 253 to 338 K using a capillary viscometer, the uncertainty was estimated to be less than ±3%, and the results was correlated as a function of temperature. The gaseous thermal conductivity of CF3I over the temperature range 265 to 336 K and pressure up to 1MPa was measured in a transient hot-wire instrument employing two anodized tantalum wires as the heat source with an uncertainty of ±3%, the results was correlated as a function of temperature and density.

Abstract:The thermal conductivity of gaseous trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) is reported over the temperature range −6.50 °C to 63.55 °C at pressures up to 1000 kPa with an uncertainty of 3% using a transient hot-wire instrument employing two anodized tantalum wires as the heat source. The results were correlated as a function of temperature and density. The values for the thermal conductivity of the dilute gas and the saturated vapor are obtained by extrapolation.

The critical temperature and the critical density of CF3I were determined by considering not only the level where the meniscus disappeared but also the intensity of the critical opalescence. The correlation of the saturated density in the critical region was developed, and the exponent of the power law β was determined. Correlations of the saturated vapor and liquid densities and the enthalpy of vaporization for CF3I were also developed. The vapor pressure of CF3I was measured at temperatures ranging from below the normal boiling point to the critical point, and a vapor pressure equation for CF3I was developed, from which the normal boiling point of CF3I was determined. The gaseous PVT properties of CF3I were measured with a Burnett/isochoric method, and a gaseous equation of state for CF3I was developed. The speed of sound of gaseous CF3I was measured with a cylindrical, variable-path acoustic interferometer operating at 156.252 kHz, and the ideal-gas heat capacity and second acoustic virial coefficient were calculated. A correlation of the second virial coefficient for CF3I was obtained by a semiempirical method using the square-well potential for the intermolecular force and was compared with the result based on PVT measurements. The surface tension of CF3I was measured with a differential capillary rise method (DCRM), and the temperature dependence of the results was successfully represented to within ±0.13 mN·m−1 using a van der Waals correlation.

Abstract:Trifluoroiodomethane (CF 3I) has been considered as a promising alternative refrigerant worldwide, and was listed as such in the UNEP Report, but the available data for its thermophysical properties is very limited. In this work, twenty six vapor pressure data points for CF 3I were measured over the temperature range from 288 to 336K. The maximum total pressure uncertainty for this data was estimated to be within ±780Pa. This data and other data in the literature was used to develop a vapor pressure equation for CF 3I. This equation correlates the measured vapor pressure data with an error of ±0.051%. The critical pressure and the equation for the enthalpy of vaporization were determined using the vapor pressure equation. These results can be used to develop environmentally friendly alternative refrigerants.

Abstract:The vapor-liquid coexistence curve of trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) was measured by visual observation of the meniscus disappearance in an optical cell. Thirty-two saturated density data points were obtained along the vapor-liquid coexistence curve between 384.5 and 2024.9 kg . m(-3) in the temperature range from 301.02 K to the critical temperature. The experimental uncertainties in temperature and density were estimated to be within +/-10 mK and +/-0.5%, respectively. Measurements near the critical point were used to determine the critical temperature T-c = 396.44 +/- 0.01 K and the critical density rho(c) = 868 +/- 3 kg . m(-3) for trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) on the basis of the meniscus disappearing level as well as the intensity of the critical opalescence. The critical pressure p(c) = 3.953 +/- 0.005 MPa was extrapolated from the existing vapor pressure equation proposed previously (Duan, Y. Y.; Zhu, M. S.; Han, L. Z. Fluid Phase Equilib. 1996, 121, 227-234) using the present T-c value. The critical exponent, beta, was also determined, and correlations of the saturated liquid and saturated vapor densities of CF3I were developed.

Abstract:Gaseous pressure-volume-temperature ( PVT ) properties were measured at temperatures from 371.21 to 413.29 K and corresponding pressures from 1.2445 to 4.9718 MPa. An isochoric cell apparatus was used in the present measurements with uncertainties estimated to be ±1.5 kPa for pressure and ±6 mK for temperature. Comparison of the measured PVT data with the reported virial-type equation of state showed satisfactory agreement within ±0.28% in pressure and within ±0.33% in density. The purity of the HFC-161 sample used in this work was 99.74 mass%.

Abstract:The isobaric heat capacity of dimethyl ether and 1,1-difluoroethane in liquid phase were measured at temperatures from 305 K to 365 K and pressures up to 5 MPa. A heat conduction calorimeter was applied in the measurements and a total of 81 data points for dimethyl ether and 78 data points for 1,1-difluoroethane were obtained. The uncertainties of measured heat capacity were estimated to be 2.1% for dimethyl ether and 1.8% for 1,1-difluoroethane, respectively. To reproduce the experimental data, a uniform equation was proposed. The equation showed average absolute deviations of 0.17 % for dimethyl ether and 0.30 % for 1,1-difluoroethane from the experimental values. Saturated liquid heat capacities for both experimental subjects were also obtained by extrapolating the equation to saturated pressures. Finally, comparisons have been done between our experimental data and literature data and fundamental equation of states.

Abstract:The surface tension of trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) has been measured in the present work. The measurements were conducted under equilibrium conditions between the liquid and its saturated vapor. Thirty data points have been obtained by differential capillary rise method (DCRM) in the temperature range from 243 to 344 K. The temperature uncertainty is within ±10 mK. The accuracy of surface tension measurements is estimated to be within ±0.1 mN m−1. The correlation of surface tension also has been proposed, the RMS deviation is 0.58%.

Abstract:The speed of sound of the gaseous trifluoroiodomethane (CF3I) was measured for temperatures from 273.15 to 333.15 K and pressures from 58 to 276 kPa with a cylindrical, variable-path acoustic interferometer operating at 156.252 kHz. The uncertainty of the speed of sound was less than ±0.1%. The ideal-gas heat capacity at constant pressure and the second acoustic virial coefficients were determined over the temperature range from the speed of sound measurements. The ideal-gas heat capacity at constant pressure and second virial coefficients calculated from the present speed of sound measurements were compared with the available data. The uncertainty of the ideal-gas heat capacity at constant pressure was estimated to be less than ± 1%.

Abstract:Isothermal vapor–liquid equilibrium data for the binary system of difluoromethane (HFC-32) +1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a) were measured at temperature from 258.15 to 343.15K in a circulation-type equilibrium apparatus. The experimental data were correlated with the Peng–Robinson–Stryjek–Vera equation of state using the Wong–Sandier mixing rule. The overall deviation of the pressure by the PRSV equation of state was 0.940%, and the average deviation of vapor phase composition by the PRSV equation of state was 0.0063.

Abstract:An experimental study of the pressure–volume–temperature–composition (PVTx) properties in the gas phase for binary mixtures of ethyl fluoride (HFC-161)+difluoromethane (HFC-32) was conducted in the range of temperatures from 303.179 to 403.190K, pressures from 1182.9 to 5918.2kPa, densities from 0.5754 to 3.2174moldm−3, and compositions from 0.1597 to 0.8989mole fractions of HFC-161. The measurements were performed with an isochoric cell apparatus. The uncertainties in the present work were estimated to be ±1.5kPa for pressure, ±6mK for temperature, and ±0.15% for composition. On the basis of the experimental PVTx property data, a truncated virial equation of state was developed for the binary HFC-161/32 system. This equation reproduced the experimental data in the gas phase within ±0.457% in pressure. The temperature dependence of the second virial coefficients, including the cross-virial coefficients for this system is also discussed.

Abstract:Isobaric heat capacity of pressurized liquid trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene [R1234ze(E)] was measured by scanning calorimetry. The experimental system basically consists of a Calvet calorimeter (Setaram C80) and a pressure balance unit. A total of 95 data points were obtained at temperatures from 310.15 to 365.15 K and pressures up to 5.5 MPa. An empirical equation was used to correlate the experimental data with an average absolute percentage deviation of 0.18 %. Besides, a comparison was carried out between present data and literature data and three latest fundamental equations of state. Finally, saturated liquid heat capacity of R1234ze(E) was also investigated in this paper.

On the basis of the experimental PVTx property data, a truncated virial equation of state was developed for the binary HFC-161/143a system. This equation reproduced the experimental data in the gas phase within ±0.247% in pressure and within ±0.254% in density.

Abstract:The gaseous PVT properties of ethyl fluoride (HFC-161) were measured at temperatures from 300.16 to 370.15K and corresponding pressures from 0.6422 to 3.9562MPa using the isochoric method. The maximum uncertainties were estimated to be within ±1.5kPa for pressure and within ±6mK for temperature. The purity of the HFC-161 sample used in the present measurements was 99.74wt%. A virial-type equation of state was developed based on the present measurements; this equation reproduced the experimental data in the gas phase within ±0.28% in pressure and within ±0.38% in density. On the basis of the present PVT properties and vapor pressures measured, saturated vapor densities of HFC-161 were determined, and a correlation of saturated vapor densities was presented.

Abstract:Trifluoroiodomethane (CF 3 I) is considered as a promising refrigerant alternative, especially as a component in mixtures, to replace CFC-12. But reliable thermophysical property data for CF 3 I are still limited. The investigations on thermophysical properties of CF 3 I developed by us are summarized in this paper. Experimental data of critical parameters, and the correlations of saturated liquid and vapor density, enthalpy of vaporization, vapor pressure, PVT properties, second virial coefficient, ideal-gas heat capacity, surface tension, viscosity and thermal conductivity are given in the present paper.
