Abstract:Let Mn(n ≥ 4) be an oriented compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn+p. Then there exists a constant δ(n, p) 2 (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies $${\overline K _N} \in \;\,\left[ {\delta \left( {n,p} \right),\;1} \right]$$, and if M has a lower bound for Ricci curvature and an upper bound for scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally umbilic sphere $${S^n}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$, a Clifford hypersurface $${S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})\; \times \;{S^m}({1 \over {\sqrt {2(1 + {H^2})} }})$$ in the totally umbilic sphere $${S^{n+1}}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$ with n = 2m, or $${\mathbb{C}{\rm{P}}^2}\left( {{4 \over 3}\left( {1 + {H^2}} \right)} \right)$$ in $${S^7}({1 \over {\sqrt {1 + {H^2}} }})$$. This is a generalization of Ejiri’s rigidity theorem.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Yau's rigidity problem for compact submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in pinched Riemannian manifolds. Firstly, we prove that if M-n is an oriented closed minimal submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn(+p), then there exists a constant delta(0)(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies (K) over bar (N) is an element of[delta(0)(n, p), 1], and if M has a lower bound for the sectional curvature and an upper bound for the normalized scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally geodesic sphere, one of the Clifford minimal hypersurfaces S-k(root k/n) x S-n (k)(root n-k/n) in Sn+1 for k = 1,..., n-1, or the Veronese submanifold in Sn+d, where d = 1/2n(n + 1) - 1. We then generalize the above theorem to the case where M ia a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a pinched Riemannian manifold.
On the topology of manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and linear volume growth

Abstract:Understanding the relationships between geometry and topology is a central theme in Riemannian geometry. We establish two results on the fundamental groups of open (complete and noncompact) $n$-manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and linear volume growth. First, we show that the fundamental group of such a manifold contains a subgroup $\mathbb{Z}^k$ of finite index, where $0\le k\le n-1$. Second, we prove that if the Ricci curvature is positive everywhere, then the fundamental group is finite. The proofs are based on an analysis of the equivariant asymptotic geometry of successive covering spaces and a plane/halfplane rigidity result for RCD spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the optimal volume growth for complete Riemannian manifolds $(M^n,g)$ with nonnegative Ricci curvature everywhere and bi-Ricci curvature bounded from below by $n-2$ outside a compact set when the dimension is less than eight. This answers a question [AX24, Question 1] proposed by Antonelli-Xu in dimensions six and seven. As a by-product, we also prove an analogy of Gromov's volume bound conjecture [Gro86, Open Question 2.A.(b)] under the condition of positive bi-Ricci curvature.

Abstract:In this paper, we study 3-dimensional complete non-compact Riemannian manifolds with asymptotically nonnegative Ricci curvature and a uniformly positive scalar curvature lower bound. Our main result is that, if this manifold has $k$ ends and finite first Betti number, then it has at most linear volume growth, and furthermore, if the negative part of Ricci curvature decays sufficiently fast at infinity, then we have an optimal asymptotic volume ratio $\limsup_{r\rightarrow\infty}\frac{\mathrm{Vol}(B(p, r))}{r}\leq4k\pi$. In particular, our results apply to 3-dimensional complete non-compact Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and a uniformly positive scalar curvature lower bound.

Abstract:Let $M^n$ be a complete, open Riemannian manifold with $\Ric \geq 0$. In 1994, Grigori Perelman showed that there exists a constant $\delta_{n}>0$, depending only on the dimension of the manifold, such that if the volume growth satisfies $\alpha_M := \lim_{r \to \infty} \frac{\Vol(B_p(r))}{\omega_n r^n} \geq 1-\delta_{n}$, then $M^n$ is contractible. Here we employ the techniques of Perelman to find specific lower bounds for the volume growth, $\alpha(k,n)$, depending only on $k$ and $n$, which guarantee the individual $k$-homotopy group of $M^n$ is trivial.

Abstract:By using the Yamabe flow, we prove that if $(M^n,g)$, $n\geq3$, is an $n$-dimensional locally conformally flat complete Riemannian manifold $Rc\geq \epsilon Rg>0$, where $\epsilon>0$ is a uniformly constant, then $M^n$ must be compact. Our result shows that Hamilton's pinching conjecture also holds for higher dimensional case if we assume additionally the metric is locally conformally flat.

Abstract:We apply the Riemannian Penrose inequality and the Riemannian positive mass theorem to derive inequalities on the boundary of a class of compact Riemannian 3-manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature. The boundary of such a manifold has a CMC component, i.e., a 2-sphere with positive constant mean curvature; and the rest of the boundary, if nonempty, consists of closed minimal surfaces. A key step in our proof is the construction of a collar extension that is inspired by the method of Mantoulidis-Schoen.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we present finite topological type theorems for open manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature, under almost maximal local rewinding volume. Unlike previous related research, our theorems remove the constraints of sectional curvature or conjugate radius, which were crucial additional assumptions on metric regularity in prior results. Notably, our settings do not necessarily satisfy a triangle comparison of Toponogov type. In fact, the method we adopt also extends to many previous related studies.

Abstract:We study the rigidity problems for open (complete and noncompact) $n$-manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We prove that if an asymptotic cone of $M$ properly contains a Euclidean $\mathbb{R}^{k-1}$, then the first Betti number of $M$ is at most $n-k$; moreover, if equality holds, then $M$ is flat. Next, we study the geometry of the orbit $\Gamma\tilde{p}$, where $\Gamma=\pi_1(M,p)$ acts on the universal cover $(\widetilde{M},\tilde{p})$. Under a similar asymptotic condition, we prove a geometric rigidity in terms of the growth order of $\Gamma\tilde{p}$. We also give the first example of a manifold $M$ of $\mathrm{Ric}>0$ and $\pi_1(M)=\mathbb{Z}$ but with a varying orbit growth order.

Abstract:We show that an orientable 3-dimensional manifold M admits a complete riemannian metric of bounded geometry and uniformly pos- itive scalar curvature if and only if there exists a finite collection F of spherical space-forms such that M is a (possibly infinite) connected sum where each summand is diffeomorphic to S2xS1 or to some mem- ber of F. This result generalises G. Perelman's classification theorem for compact 3-manifolds of positive scalar curvature. The main tool is a variant of Perelman's surgery construction for Ricci flow.

Complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature

Abstract:We consider complete Kähler manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature. The main results are: 1. When the manifold has nonnegative bisectional curvature, we show that $\lim\limits_{r\to\infty}\frac{r^{2}}{vol(B(p, r))}\int_{B(p, r)}S$ exists. In other words, it depends only on the manifold. This solves a question of Ni. Also, we establish estimates among volume growth ratio, integral of scalar curvature, and the degree of polynomial growth holomorphic functions. The new point is that the estimates are sharp for any prescribed volume growth rate. 2. We discover a strong rigidity for complete Ricci flat Kähler metrics. Let $M^n (n\geq 2)$ be a complete Kähler manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature and Euclidean volume growth. Assume either the curvature has quadratic decay, or the Kähler metric is $dd^c$-exact with quadratic decay of scalar curvature. If one tangent cone at infinity is Ricci flat, then $M$ is Ricci flat. In particular, the tangent cone is unique. In other words, we can test Ricci flatness of the manifold by checking one single tangent cone. This seems unexpected, since apriori, there is no equation on $M$ and the Bishop-Gromov volume comparison is not sharp on Ricci flat (nonflat) manifolds. Such result is in sharp contrast to the Riemannian setting: Colding and Naber showed that tangent cones are quite flexible when $Ric\geq 0$ and $|Rm|r^2<C$. This reveals subtle differences between Riemannian case and Kähler case. The result contains lots of examples, such as all noncompact Ricci flat Kähler surfaces of Euclidean volume growth (hyper-Kähler ALE 4-manifolds classified by Kronheimer), higher dimensional examples of Tian-Yau type, as well as an example with irregular cross section. It also covers Ricci flat Kähler metrics of Euclidean volume growth on Stein manifolds with $b_2 = 0$(e.g., $\mathbb{C}^n$).

Abstract:We prove two rigidity theorems for open (complete and noncompact) $n$-manifolds $M$ with nonnegative Ricci curvature and the infimum of volume growth order $<2$. The first theorem asserts that the Riemannian universal cover of $M$ has Euclidean volume growth if and only if $M$ is flat with an $n-1$ dimensional soul. The second theorem asserts that there exists a nonconstant linear growth harmonic function on $M$ if and only if $M$ is isometric to the metric product $\mathbb{R}\times N$ for some compact manifold $N$.

Abstract:In this article, we prove that if the Ricci tensor of a compact nonpositively curved manifold M n is nowhere negative definite, then it admits local flat factors. To be more precise, let U C M be the open subset where the Ricci tensor has maximum rank r. Then for any connected component U a of U, its universal cover U a is isometric to R n―r ×N r a , where n r a is a nonpositively curved manifold with negative Ricci curvature. In particular, if M n is compact, nonpositively curved without Euclidean de Rham factor, and both the manifold and the metric are real analytic, then its Ricci tensor must be negative definite somewhere.
On the geometry at infinity of manifolds with linear volume growth and nonnegative Ricci curvature

Abstract:We prove that an open manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature, linear volume growth and noncollapsed ends always splits off a line at infinity. This completes the final step to prove the existence of isoperimetric sets given large volumes in the above setting. We also find that under our assumptions, the diameter of the level sets of any Busemann function are uniformly bounded as opposed to a classical result stating that they can have sublinear growth when ends are collapsing. Moreover, some equivalent characterizations of linear volume growth are given. Finally, we construct an example to show that for manifolds in our setting, although their limit spaces at infinity are always cylinders, the cross sections can be nonhomeomorphic.

Abstract:We prove that if $M^n(n\ge 4)$ is a compact Einstein manifold whose normalized scalar curvature and sectional curvature satisfy pinching condition $R_0>\sigma _{n}K_{\max }$, where $\sigma _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant depending only on $n$, then $M$ must be isometric to a spherical space form. Moreover, we prove that if an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein manifold satisfies $K_{\min }\ge \eta _n R_0,$ where $\eta _n\in (\frac{1}{4},1)$ is an explicit positive constant, then $M$ is locally symmetric. It should be emphasized that the pinching constant $\eta _n$ is optimal when $n$ is even. We then obtain some rigidity theorems for Einstein manifolds under $(n-2)$-th Ricci curvature and normalized scalar curvature pinching conditions. Finally we extend the theorems above to Einstein submanifolds in a Riemannian manifold, and prove that if $M$ is an $n(\ge {\!\!4})$-dimensional compact Einstein submanifold in the simply connected space form $F^{N}(c)$ with constant curvature $c\ge 0$, and the normalized scalar curvature $R_0$ of $M$ satisfies $R_0>\frac{A_n}{A_n+4n-8}(c+H^2),$ where $A_n=n^3-5n^2+8n$, and $H$ is the mean curvature of $M$, then $M$ is isometric to a standard $n$-sphere.
Long-time Ricci flow existence and topological rigidity from manifolds with pinched scale-invariant integral curvature

Abstract:We prove long-time existence of the Ricci flow starting from complete manifolds with bounded curvature and scale-invariant integral curvature sufficiently pinched with respect to the inverse of its Sobolev constant. Moreover, if the curvature is sub-critical $L^p$ integrable, this flow converges locally smoothly to a limiting metric $g(\infty)$ on $M$ with $(M,g(\infty))$ isometric to the standard flat $\mathbb{R}^n$, which implies topological rigidity of $M$. This generalizes work of Chen, who proved analogous results for asymptotically flat manifolds. We also prove a long-time Ricci flow existence (and likewise topological rigidity) result for unbounded curvature initial data, assuming the initial data is a locally smooth limit of bounded curvature manifolds as described above.
