Abstract:In this paper, we have analyzed the motion of an infinitesimal mass in axisymmetric restricted five-body problem. The four primaries are supposed to be in axisymmetric central configurations based on Érdi and Czirják and the motion is governed by mutual gravity only. We have derived the equations of motion of the infinitesimal mass firstly and then found the number and locations of equilibrium points numerically for various angle coordinates. In addition, the zero velocity surfaces (ZVS) are drawn and regions of motion are analyzed for specific configurations. Finally the linear stability of equilibrium points are discussed preliminarily.

Abstract:We present a non-variational approach to the solution of the quantum three-body problem, based on the decomposition of the three-body Laplacian operator through the use of its intrinsic symmetries. With the judicious choice of angular momentum eigenfunctions, a clean separation of spatial rotation from kinematic rotation is achieved, leading to a finite set of coupled PDEs in terms of the canonical variables. Numerical implementation of this approach to the three-body Coulomb problem is shown to yield accurate ground state eigenvalues and wavefunctions, together with those of low-lying excited states. We present results on some typical three-body systems. In particular, the eigenvalues and wavefunctions of the even-parity Pe3 state of the negative hydrogen ion are detailed for the first time. The issue of computational efficiency is also briefly discussed.

Abstract:In this work, based on consideration of periodicity and asymptotic forms of wave function, we propose a novel approach to the solution of finite volume three-body problem by mapping a three-body problem into a higher dimensional two-body problem. The idea is demonstrated by an example of two light spinless particles and one heavy particle scattering in one spatial dimension. This 1D three-body problem resembles a two-body problem in two spatial dimensions mathematically, and quantization condition of 1D three-body problem is thus derived accordingly.

Abstract:We develop a systematic and efficient approach for numerically solving the non-Markovian quantum state diffusion equation for an open quantum system that can be strongly coupled to an environment. As an important application, we consider a real-time simulation of a spin-boson model in a strong-coupling regime that is difficult to deal with using conventional methods. We show that the non-Markovian stochastic Schr\"odinger equation can be efficiently implemented as a real-time simulation for this model, so as to give an accurate description of spin-boson dynamics beyond the rotating-wave approximation.

Abstract:Density distribution function of classical statistical mechanics is generally generalized as a product of a general complex function and its complex Hermitian conjugate function, and the average of classical statistical mechanics is generalized as the average of the quantum mechanics. Furthermore, this paper derives three ones of the five axiom presumptions of quantum mechanics, e.g., deduces Schrȍdinger equation by two general ways, makes the three axiom presumptions into three theorems of quantum mechanics, not only solves the crisis to hard understand, but also gets new theories and new discoveries, e.g., this paper solves the crisis of the origin of the wave-particle duality, derives operators, eigenvalues and eigenstates, deduces commutation relations for coordinate and momentum as well as the time and energy, and discovers quantum mechanics is just a generalization ( mechanics ) theory of the complex square root of ( real density function of ) classical statistical mechanics. Quantum mechanics being just a generalization theory of the complex square root of classical statistical mechanics is both new physics and revolutionary discovery, which are affecting people’s deep philosophical thinking for modern physics development, solve all the crisises of quantum mechanics, quantum information and so on, and make quantum mechanics have scientific solid bases being checked and both no basic axiom presumption and no all the quantum strange incomprehensible properties, because classical statistical mechanics and the complex square root of classical statistical mechanics have the scientific solid bases being checked. In addition, this paper discovers the reason no taking the time derivative of space coordinates in Schrȍdinger equation. Abstract:The exact solution to the Schr\"{o}dinger equation for the rigid body with the given angular momentum and parity is obtained. Since the quantum rigid body can be thought of as the simplest quantum three-body problem where the internal motion is frozen, this calculation method is a good starting point for solving the quantum three-body problems.

Abstract:In quantum mechanics courses, students are often asked to solve bound and scattering state problems. The use of an ordinary differential equation is a standard technique to solve these questions. Here, we investigated students' problem-solving processes for two typical problems of a single particle in one spatial dimension: a bound state problem and a scattering state problem. We analyzed students' solutions to written exams and utilized think-aloud interviews using a framework that includes four stages: activation, construction, execution, and reflection. We found that the students encountered various difficulties when they solved the ordinary differential equations to obtain the properties of bound or scattering states. Common difficulties included recognizing when the time-dependent Schrodinger equation is the appropriate model; selecting a range of the energy constants that satisfies the bound or scattering state; justifying when to use a superposition form of the wave functions; grasping the physical definition of scattering coefficients; and using an effective checking method for their solutions. In addition, we observed qualitatively different difficulties in students' solutions to the two problems and discussed possible explanations for the underlying reasoning mechanisms that cause these difficulties. Finally, we discussed the potential implications of our findings for instruction.

Abstract:In variational calculations with harmonic oscillator wavefunctions as trial bases, the transformation coefficients that relate harmonic oscillator wavefunctions in two different sets of internal coordinates are convenient to the evaluation of some matrix elements. Here, we present the explicit expression of these transformation coefficients for five-body systems. These transformation coefficients can be collected in a matrix according to the quantum number N of harmonic oscillator shell and can be programmed for arbitrary N.

Abstract:A powerful approach to solve the Coulombic quantum three-body problem isproposed. The approach is exponentially convergent and more efficient than theHyperspherical Coordinate(HC) method and the Correlation FunctionHyperspherical Harmonic(CFHH) method. This approach is numerically competitivewith the variational methods, such as that using the Hylleraas-type basisfunctions. Numerical comparisons are made to demonstrate them, by calculatingthe non-relativistic and infinite-nuclear-mass limit of the ground state energyof the helium atom. The exponentially convergency of this approach is due tothe full matching between the analytical structure of the basis functions thatI use and the true wave function. This full matching was not reached by almostany other methods. For example, the variational method using the Hylleraas-typebasis does not reflects the logarithmic singularity of the true wave functionat the origin as predicted by Bartlett and Fock. Two important approaches areproposed in this work to reach this full matching: the coordinatetransformation method and the asymptotic series method. Besides these, thiswork makes use of the least square method to substitute complicated numericalintegrations in solving the Schrödinger equation, without much loss ofaccuracy; this method is routinely used by people to fit a theoretical curvewith discrete experimental data, but I use it here to simplify the computation.
On computing quantum waves and spin from classical action

Abstract:We show that the Schrödinger equation of quantum physics can be solved analytically using a generalized form of the classical Hamilton-Jacobi least action equation, extending a key result of Feynman. This suggests a smooth transition between physics across scales, and builds on two developments. The first is incorporating geometric constraints directly in the classical local least action problem. This leads to multi-valued least action solutions, where each local action is its own set element. For instance, in the double slit experiment or for a particle in a box, spatial inequality constraints create impulsive constraint forces, which lead to multiple paths and create multiple least action branches. Multi-valued least actions may also stem from singularities in the Hamiltonian, as for a particle in a Coulomb potential, or from a closed configuration manifold, as for a spinning particle. Second, approximate mappings from action $\Phi$ to wave function $\Psi$ have been suggested since Dirac and even Schrödinger. We show that an exact mapping can be constructed by combining the multi-valued least actions with the fluid density $\rho$ of the classical position dynamics, computed from $\Phi$ along each least action branch. Quantum wave collapse corresponds to transitions between multi-valued least action branches at the branch point (position measurement), or to a measurement of the branch index (momentum measurement). These coordinate-invariant results provide a simpler computing alternative to Feynman path integrals, as they use only a discrete set of classical paths and avoid zig-zag paths and time-slicing altogether. They extend to the relativistic Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations.

Abstract:Upper-division physics students solve partial differential equations in various contexts in quantum mechanics courses. Separation of variables is a standard technique to solve these equations. We investigated students' solutions to midterm exam questions and utilized think-aloud interviews. We also applied a framework that organizes students' problem-solving process into four stages: activate, construct, execute, and reflect. Here we focused on students' problem-solving process for two typical problems in the context of quantum mechanics: an energy eigenfunction problem in two spatial dimensions and a time evolution problem in one spatial dimension. We found that the students encountered various difficulties when they used the separation of variables technique to solve these partial differential equations. Common difficulties included recognizing when separation of variables is the appropriate method, deriving the correct separated equations from the original equation, deciding the signs of the separation constants, justifying when using the summation form of the wave function, and using an effective reflecting tool for their final solutions. In addition, we observed qualitatively and quantitatively different errors in students' solutions to the two problems. Finally, we discussed the possible implications of our findings for instruction.

Abstract:We demonstrate explicitly how the rotational degrees of freedom in a quantum three-body problem is separated completely from the internal ones. It is shown that only finite partial angular momentum states are involved in constructing the base-functions with the given angular momentum and parity, and the contributions by the remaining partial angular momentum states are incorporated into the contributions by the generalized radial functions.

Abstract:With the breakthroughs made by physicists in high‐dimensional mathematics, it has become possible to represent and solve a number of classical mathematical physics problems using the split quaternion algebra. In this paper, we study the least squares approximation of a class of Schrödinger equations in split quaternionic mechanics and propose two algebraic algorithms to the generalized right eigen‐problem for an i‐Hermitian split quaternion matrix pencil by using two isomorphic mappings. Numerical examples show the effectiveness of the proposed theories and algorithms.

Abstract:We study the dynamics of the cubic–quintic nonlinear Schr?dinger equation by the symplectic method. The behaviors of the equation are discussed with harmonically modulated initial conditions, and the contributions from the quintic term are discussed. We observe the elliptic orbit, homoclinic orbit crossing, quasirecurrence, and stochastic motion with different nonlinear parameters in this system. Numerical simulations show that the changing processes of the motion of the system and the trajectories in the phase space are various for different cubic nonlinear parameters with the increase of the quintic nonlinear parameter.

Abstract:Elementary quantum mechanics proposes that a closed physical system consistently evolves in a reversible manner. However, control and readout necessitate the coupling of the quantum system to the external environment, subjecting it to relaxation and decoherence. Consequently, system-environment interactions are indispensable for simulating physically significant theories. A broad spectrum of physical systems in condensed-matter and high-energy physics, vibrational spectroscopy, and circuit and cavity QED necessitates the incorporation of bosonic degrees of freedom, such as phonons, photons, and gluons, into optimized fermion algorithms for near-future quantum simulations. In particular, when a quantum system is surrounded by an external environment, its basic physics can usually be simplified to a spin or fermionic system interacting with bosonic modes. Nevertheless, troublesome factors such as the magnitude of the bosonic degrees of freedom typically complicate the direct quantum simulation of these interacting models, necessitating the consideration of a comprehensive plan. This strategy should specifically include a suitable fermion/boson-to-qubit mapping scheme to encode sufficiently large yet manageable bosonic modes, and a method for truncating and/or downfolding the Hamiltonian to the defined subspace for performing an approximate but highly accurate simulation, guided by rigorous error analysis. In this paper, we aim to provide such an exhaustive strategy. Specifically, we emphasize two aspects: (1) the discussion of recently developed quantum algorithms for these interacting models and the construction of effective Hamiltonians, and (2) a detailed analysis regarding a tightened error bound for truncating the bosonic modes for a class of fermion-boson interacting Hamiltonians.

Abstract:Abstract The essential difficulty of a large portion of the strongly interacting systems can be traced down to the “noncanonicality” of the underlying operators which are used to formulate the theory, like t-J model, Hubbard-type models in the large-U limit, quantum spin, etc. We proposed a new Schwinger-Dyson equations-of-motion method to compute the dynamical correlation functions of quantum spins at zero temperature. This method can also compute all the static observables from the dynamical correlation functions. We propose that this method can formulate dynamical perturbation calculations for quantum spin-1/2 models.
Relation Between Solutions of the Schrödinger Equation with Transitioning Resonance Solutions of the Gravitational Three-Body Problem

Abstract:It is shown that a class of approximate resonance solutions in the three-body problem under the Newtonian gravitational force are equivalent to quantized solutions of a modified Schrödinger equation for a wide range of masses that transition between energy states. In the macroscopic scale, the resonance solutions are shown to transition from one resonance type to another through weak capture at one of the bodies, while in the Schrödinger equation, one obtains quantized wave solutions transitioning between different energies. The resonance transition dynamics provides a classical model of a particle moving between different energy states in the Schrödinger equation. This methodology provides a connection between celestial and quantum mechanics.

Abstract:We focus on a type of circular restricted five-body problem in which four primaries with equal masses form a regular tetrahedron configuration and circulate uniformly around the center of mass of the system. The fifth particle, which can be regarded as a small celestial body or probe, obeys the law of gravity determined by the four primaries. The geometric configuration of zero-velocity surfaces of the fifth particle in the three-dimensional space is numerically simulated and addressed. Furthermore, a transfer trajectory of the fifth particle skimming over four primaries then is designed.

Abstract:In this work, the (2+1)-dimensional chiral nonlinear Schrödinger equation that describes about quantum field concept in physics and other physical sciences are studied and solved by utilizing the two modern techniques including the polynomial expansion method and the Sardar sub-equation method. We attained different types of soliton solutions that had been applications in different fields of mathematical sciences. The behaviours of attained solutions are periodic, singular and v-shaped soliton solutions. Furthermore, we have investigated the stability of the obtained results. Also, the 3D, 2D, and contour graphics are displayed for the better understanding of the dynamical behaviour of various waves structures extensively. The techniques applied in this article are not used in this model in literature so we say that our findings are new that summarize the novelty of work. The utilize model has applications in physics related phenomenon also obtained results highly valuable in various branches of sciences specially in the transmission of fiber optical.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following 2-D Schrodinger-Newton equations -Delta u + a(x)u + gamma/2 pi (log(vertical bar.vertical bar) * vertical bar u vertical bar(p)) vertical bar u vertical bar(p-2) u = b vertical bar u vertical bar(q-2)u in R-2, where a is an element of C(R-2) is a Z(2)-periodic function with inf(R2) a > 0, gamma > 0, b >= 0, p >= 2 and q >= 2. By using ideas from [14, 22, 43], under mild assumptions, we obtain existence of ground state solutions and mountain pass solutions to the above equations for p >= 2 and q >= 2p - 2 via variational methods. The auxiliary functional J(1) plays a key role in the case p >= 3. We also prove the radial symmetry of positive solutions (up to translations) for p >= 2 and q >= 2. The corresponding results for planar Schrodinger-Poisson systems will also be obtained. Our theorems extend the results in [14] from p = 2 to general p >= 2 and the results in [22] from p = 2 and b = 1 to general p >= 2 and b >= 0.
