Abstract:Task-based fMRI has been widely used to guide presurgical mapping non-invasively. Application of resting-state fMRI (rs-fMRI) was recently reported in as well (Zhang et al., 2009) as patient in severe clinical conditions may not be able to perform tasks. Independent component analysis (ICA)-based mapping (Kokkonen et al., 2009) shows its advantage as no a priori information is required, which naturally fits for rsfMRI. However, such issues should not be neglected that components identified by subjective visual inspection often leads to bias or errors; ICA also faces inconsistency problems; previous findings based on case study may lack of validity. Therefore, study based on a large group and optimized ICA algorithm is warranted for mapping eloquent cortex in neurosurgery. 1Center for Cognition and Brain Disorders, Affiliated Hospital, Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou, China, 2Department of Neurosurgery, Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, China.
