First UK National Data Reveal More Breast Cancers Between Screenings Than Expected

Abstract:Breast cancers that develop between scheduled screening tests—interval cancers—occur at a slightly higher rate than expected, according to the first national data for the UK. The study analysed data for more than 7.3 million women aged 50 to 64 who had a routine screening test for breast cancer between April 1997 and March 2003 at the 92 screening centres in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
