Abstract:China turned into an aging society in the late 20th century. So, it is a long-term strategic task for the country to cope with the aging of its population. The National Survey on the Living Conditions of the Elderly in Urban and Rural Areas has been conducted four times since 2000. The data show that the living conditions of the elderly in urban and rural areas in China got better from 2000 to 2015, which is reflected in the significant improvement in the financial situation, the continuous increase in social security, medical health and social participation, and the rich spiritual and cultural life. With the aging of its population, China faces not only the challenges of short labor resources, weak family functions, and inadequate resources for medical care services, but also the tremendous potentials and opportunities in the adjustment of the structure of demand and of the industrial structure caused by the aging of the population.
