Abstract:Inspired by the evolutionary strategy and the biological DNA mechanism, a hybrid DNA based genetic algorithm (HDNA-GA) with the population update operation and the adaptive parameter scope operation is proposed for solving parameter estimation problems of dynamic systems. The HDNA-GA adopts the nucleotides based coding and some molecular operations. In HDNA-GA, three new crossover operators, replacement operator, transposition operator and reconstruction operator, are designed to improve the population diversity, and the mutation operator with adaptive mutation probability is applied to guarantee against stalling at local peak. Besides, the simulated annealing based selection operator is used to guide the evolution direction. In order to overcome the premature convergence drawbacks of GAs and enhance the algorithm global and local search abilities, the population update operator and the adaptive parameter scope operator are suggested. Numerous comparative experiments on benchmark functions and real-world parameter estimation problems in dynamic systems are conducted and the results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the HDNA-GA.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors first analyze the drawback of genetic algorithm with traditional mutation operator in preventing GA from converging prematurely, then study its influence on the diversity of genes in the same locus, and point out that the traditional mutation, to some extent, can result in premature convergence of genes in the same locus. This will cause the loss of critical alleles. Inspired by digital technique, we import two kinds of Boolean operation into GA to develop a novel mutation operator and discuss its contribution to prevent the loss of critical alleles. The experimental results of function optimization show that the improved mutation operator can prevent premature convergence effectively, and can provide a wide range of selecting control parameters for GA. Then we present a new parameter estimation algorithm based on the improved GA. Simulation experiments have been carried out and their results show that this estimation algorithm has good tracking ability and is not sensitive to the noise.

Abstract:Parameter estimation of chemical processes can be presented as a tough optimization problem which can be solved with optimization methods.As a robust global searching method,genetic algorithm (GA) has been frequently applied in this area.However,the genetic algorithm has some shortcomings,such as weak local search ability and tends to premature.Furthermore,the encoding of GA cannot reflect the genetic information of biological organism.To overcome the deficiencies of GA,a new DNA genetic algorithm is proposed for the parameter estimation of chemical engineering processes.The proposed method uses nucleotide bases to present the individual. The novel crossover and mutation operators inspired by DNA molecular are designed.The novel crossover operators include permutation crossover operator and translocation crossover operator,and the novel mutation consists of anticodon mutation and maximum-minimum mutation.The solutions with two typical test functions show that the proposed method outperforms the other two methods in the searching speed,searching precision and the success rate.Finally,this method is applied to estimate the parameters of heavy oil thermal cracking model.The results of eight cross validation shows that the proposed algorithm possesses small self-check relative error,prediction relative error,and the standard deviation of relative error.Compared with the other two models,the model established by the proposed DNA genetic algorithm has smaller modeling error.

Abstract:The paper presents a method for the identification of nonlinear system parameters by using an improved Genetic Algorithm and Grey Function. The paper firstly outlines several commonly used nonlinear identification methods such as RLS, RIV and COR and also their drawbacks. Then, a method based on the Genetic Algorithm and Grey Function is proposed and given in detail in the paper. Finally, a simulation experiment to TV set production data of an electronic factory was carried out. The simulations show that the method can gain good results and is also simple and effective.

Abstract:Based on the Genetic Algorithms and the Volterra series model, a new identification method of nonlinear system is proposed in this paper. The method is adapted to the difference magnitude of parametric of model. The adaptation algorithm is devised in order to get bigger search range and achieve more accurate answer synchronously. With unique Mutate and Select, an effective Genetic Algorithms is achieved, used to solve the identification for nonlinear system. The simulation and experiment results indicated that the new method is of high accuracy robustness and adaptability.

Abstract:An improved Genetic Algorithm(GA) is developed for solving the problem of multi-time delays identification in complex industrial processes. Such as Elitism, optimum selection crossover operate and cataclysmic mutation are adopted in the improved genetic algorthm, then applied to obtain an optimal multi-time delays identification of MIMO system. The simulation result shows that this improved GA's result is more efficient in accuracy as well as in convergence.

Abstract:This paper develops high performance system identification and linearisation techniques, using a genetic algorithm. The algorithm is fine tuned by simulated annealing, which yields a faster convergence and a more accurate search. This global search technique is used to identify the parameters of a system described by an ARMAX model in the presence of white noise and to approximate a nonlinear multivariable system by a linear time-invariant state space model. Results obtained show that simple step input can be used for effective system identification and linearisation with much higher performance than conventional means

Abstract:On line joint time delay and parameter estimation of nonlinear systems are analyzed using an on line estimation method based on the genetic algorithm. The most important contribution of this approach is that decimal coding is used in the genetic algorithm to improve the performance of the traditional binary coding. The proposed approach can efficiently estimate time varying time delays and parameters of nonlinear systems even with system noise. Simulation results demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:An adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA) coded in a float number vector which can be potentially used to solve the problem of estimation of the interconnection weights in the large scale neural networks is easily implemented in MATLAB, and a framework of FFN based dynamic system identification using this algorithm is proposed in this paper. In the algorithm, a float number vector representation is used to naturally treat with the multiple parameters in real value and a mechanism of adapting the probability of mutation is introduced in order to avoid the premature convergence. The simulation experiments show that this algorithm outperforms the standard genetic algorithm coded in a binary string (SGA) both in convergent speed and in accuracy. Finally, a FFN-based model of a nonlinear dynamic system is trained by both the SGAs and the AGAs. and the comparative results are given to demonstrate the AGAs’ good performance and efficiency’.

Abstract:In hydroscience investigations, there are many hydraulic parameters to need identifying by use of optimization methods. According to dasiaNatural Selectionpsila from Darwinism, Genetic Algorithms (GA) has developed rapidly as effective and much robust optimization technique in recent ten years. But it isnpsilat easily applied to practice for Simple Genetic Algorithms (SGA) has the disadvantages of slow convergence rate, premature convergence and stagnation, etc. Enlightened from Accelerating Genetic Algorithms (AGA), the author presented Generalized Genetic Algorithms (GGA) to settle the problem. GGA inherits ancestorpsilas genes and imitates trend behavior in nature. It can preserve excellent individualspsila diversity and uses excellent individual room of ancestors as propagating room of next generation. GGA generalizes SGA and AGA. When GGApsilas parameters are changed, more kinds of GAs may be designed. Then in this paper, GGA was applied to identify hydraulic parameters of ship lock, that is, inertia head of valve opening with chamber filling and discharge coefficient of filling and emptying system, and the results indicate that GGA is fit for identifying hydraulic parameters because of its rapid convergence rate and high convergence precision. Thus, GGA will possibly provide a new idea to model hydraulic process of ship lock accurately.

Abstract:Genetic programming can be used for structural optimisation. Combined with ii hybrid simple/simulated annealing algorithm, it is applied to the identification of nonlinear dynamic models from simulated experimental data. Nonlinear models similar to the original test model of the system are identified, yielding both correct structures and accurate parameters.

Abstract:Genetic algorithm excels at astringency and robustness when used in single static function optimization. But due to it's time consuming operation, it can hardly be used in such applications which needs high real timing, and the optimization objects may change dynamically. In order to enable the genetic algorithm to be dynamic, to fit the dynamic decision optimal object and, consequently to optimize it, we propose the genetic algorithm. The basic idea is, by the help of the technology of parallel computation, to foster the good individuals for all possible during the process of deciding the optimization object. Once the specific object is decided, it can be optimized quickly on the basis of fostered individuals. In this paper, the realization method of the algorithm and the algorithm's verification is introduced. In the end we testify the validity the algorithm through samples. It is found that it takes the traditional Genetic algorithm around iterating 300 generations to find a good solution for a single function, while it takes about 150 generations for the pre-evolution Genetic algorithm, based on the simultaneous evolution for every functions, and about iterating 50 generations for a single function. Because the pre-evolution is run together with decision-making process, so this algorithm can quickly find the good solution for a function after it is selected.

Abstract:A hybrid Artificial Life (ALife) system for function optimization that combines ALife colonization with Genetic Algorithm (GA) includes two stages: in the first stage, the emergent colonization of ALife system is used to provide an initial population for GA; GA is further used to rind the optimal solution in the second stage. However, the optimization result is largely affected by the method of how to select the initial population for GA of the second stage from ALife colony of the first stage. In this paper, different selecting methods are compared with and an effective selecting method is proposed, followed by simulation results.

Abstract:The paper presents a method for the identification of bilinear system parameters by using an improved Genetic Algorithm. Good results could still be obtained when the system output was influenced by Gaussian noise in the simulation. By comparing with RLS and COR through a simulation experiment to a SISO bilinear system, it is found that the method can get better result than the other two methods. Through a simulation experiment to a MIMO bilinear system, the method can get reasonably good results too. These simulations show that the method is simpler and can get better results than RLS and COR. Through a simulation study to an MIMO bilinear system, good results can still be got. In the last section, the paper describes that a hybrid GA, the combination of Genetic Algorithm and nonlinear Least Square, was developed to identify bilinear system structure and parameters simultaneously.

Abstract:As parameter identification problem can be formulated as optimization problem,genetic algorithm(GA) is introduced for parameter identification recently.However,compared with time-domain and frequency-domain methods,the efficiency of the GA-based method is lower because of the excessively long running time of GA-based method.The key reason is that the initial state of the simulation model in SIMULINK is preset to zero,but the initial stable state of the corresponding real system is non-zero.It will take long simulation time for GA-based method to setup the non-zero initial stable state.In the paper,a new Intelligent Identification Method(IIM) based on SIMULINK and genetic algorithm(GA) is proposed.In IIM,the initial values of the state variables of the model system to be identified is set directly according to the sampling data of real system,the model system could get into the non-zero initial stable state at the beginning of the simulation,so that the running time of IIM deducts tremendously and the efficiency of IIM increases.The detailed flow chart of IIM is described.The IIM has been successfully used for excitation system modeling and parameter identification in Fujian Power Corporation of China.The simulation results and field testing given in the paper show that the IIM is superior to other GA-based methods.

Abstract:In order to overcome the problems of genetic algorithm,such as the low efficiency,genetic algorithm is redesigned by the complex system theory in this paper.First,the selecting operator is rebuilt by the power law,which is considered to be the self-organized criticality of complex system and sound distribution system of energy.Second,the crossover operator is redesigned by the characteristic of a self-learning complex system.Third,the generation strategy is improved by the mechanism of feedback.Finally,the gene floating operator is added to the algorithm.Because all operators are balanced with each other and restrict each other,the newly designed algorithm,complex system genetic algorithm(CSGA),improves efficiency and premature markedly.At last,experiments show that the CSGA is capable of dealing with high dimensional global optimization problems.

Abstract:Fractional calculus has become an increasingly popular tool for modeling the complex behaviors of physical systems from diverse domains. One of the key issues to apply fractional calculus to engineering problems is to achieve the parameter identification of fractional-order systems. A time-domain identification algorithm based on a genetic algorithm (GA) is proposed in this paper. The multi-variable parameter identification is converted into a parameter optimization by applying GA to the identification of fractional-order systems. To evaluate the identification accuracy and stability, the time-domain output error considering the condition variation is designed as the fitness function for parameter optimization. The identification process is established under various noise levels and excitation levels. The effects of external excitation and the noise level on the identification accuracy are analyzed in detail. The simulation results show that the proposed method could identify the parameters of both commensurate rate and non-commensurate rate fractional-order systems from the data with noise. It is also observed that excitation signal is an important factor influencing the identification accuracy of fractional-order systems.

Abstract:This paper is the first of two-part series on a uniformly sampled genetic algorithm with gradient search devised to efficiently solve the optimization-based structural identification. The strategy involves multi-species exploration, adaptive search space reduction and quasi-random sequence sampling. The use of a small number of uniform samples enables preliminary exploration in the solution space so as to shorten the “learning curve” considerably. The proposed strategy is shown by numerical study to give much better identification accuracy than the original search space reduction method, while using much less computational time for identification of known-mass and unknown-mass systems.
