Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to present a novel controller of differential assist steering system. Firstly, the integrated controller module in electric vehicle is investigated, in which the front axle is refitted for two in-wheel motors. Secondly, genetic algorithm is used to optimize the control decision-making rules of fuzzy controller. Thereafter, the built model is embedded in veDYNA development environment with an offline simulation test of driver/vehicle/road closed-loop system. At last, control strategy, which has been compiled and downloaded to Mirco AutoBox controller prototype, is used for the real vehicle experimental analysis and validation of the proposed controller. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the controller can improve the yaw motion and reduce the slip angle of vehicle. Here, the vehicle is equipped with the in-wheel motors on both sides. At the same time, the controller cannot only track the steering torque indication of driving current, but also preferably maintain the steering assist handle. Furthermore, it can bring about a good road feeling to the driver because of the reduced torque fluctuation.

Abstract:Based on the analysis and design of the entire AGV system, this paper explores the function allocation and module partition of the AGV control system. The on-board control system for AGV is divided into five functional modules such as control, communication, position, safety and driving-steering module, and the hardware choice and designing for each module is described according to the AGV’s overall performance requirements. On this basis, the software structure of AGV is designed, providing a reliable and high-performance experimental platform for AGV motion control algorithm.

Abstract:We designed and implemented a fork-type automatic guided vehicle (AGV) with a laser guidance system. Most previous AGVs have used two types of guidance systems: magnetgyro and wire guidance. However, these guidance systems have high costs, are difficult to maintain with changes in the operating environment, and can drive only a pre-determined path with installed sensors. A laser guidance system was developed for addressing these issues, but limitations including slow response time and low accuracy remain. We present a laser guidance system and control system for AGVs with laser navigation. For analyzing the performance of the proposed system, we designed and built a fork-type AGV, and performed repetitions of our experiments under the same working conditions. The results show an average positioning error of 51.76 mm between the simulated driving path and the driving path of the actual fork-type AGV. Consequently, we verified that the proposed method is effective and suitable for use in actual AGVs.

Abstract:Based on the features and topology structure of front wheel independent drive in a distributed drive electric vehicle,its feasibility of implementing differential assisted steering is analyzed and a closed-loop control scheme for differential assisted steering is proposed.Based on longitudinal speed and steering wheel angle,the reference steering wheel torque is determined,and with which as control target the closed-loop control strategy for differential assisted steering is devised to improve the steering performance of vehicle.A varying parameter PI control algorithm with anti-windup integral and aligning recognition strategy and control algorithm are devised for the situation of motor output torque saturation in specific condition to ensure the steering wheel returning to central position in low speed while providing certain damping in high speed for reducing the overshoot of steering wheel return.The results of real vehicle test indicate that the control algorithm can provide assisted steering force varying with vehicle speeds and hence reduce steering wheel torque and improve the steering handiness of vehicle.Meanwhile it can also accurately judge the state of aligning,make steering torque follow its reference value and significantly enhance vehicle responsibility in aligning condition.

Abstract:Purpose The flexible automatic transportation and manual assembly jobs for large aircraft components demand an automated guided vehicle (AGV) system with heavy-duty capacity and omnidirectional movability. This paper aims to propose a four driving-steering wheels-four supporting-steering wheels (4DSW-4SSW) layout plan to enhance the controllability and moving stability of AGV. Design/methodology/approach The anti-vibration structure of DS wheels and high-torque steering mechanism of SS wheels with tapered rolling bearings are rigorously designed to meet the functional requirements. Based on the specific wheel layout and vehicle dynamics, the rotational kinematic model as well as the straight and rotational dynamic models of AGV are established by the authors. To well verify the motion characteristics of wheels under heavy load in three motion states including straight motion, self-rotation and rotation around a certain point, the simulations in ADAMS and factory experiments have all been conducted. Findings Simulation results indicate that normal and friction forces of DS wheels and SS wheels are very stable except for some small oscillations, which are caused by non-center load distribution on AGV. Experimental results on driving speed of AGV have directly demonstrated that its positioning accuracy is enough for use in real aircraft assembly lines. Originality/value A new layout plan of wheels for an omnidirectional heavy-duty AGV is proposed, which enhances the operating and moving capacity of AGV. A function of human-machine collaboration is also offered by the AGV for transporting large workpieces intelligently and economically in aerospace and other heavy industries.

Abstract:Automated guided vehicle (AGV) is playing an major role in industrial applications to move materials around a manufacturing facility or warehouse. As task complexity increases, however, the traditional design of AGV can't meet user's demands any longer. Therefore, a new AGV control system is introduced in this paper, which is designed by the two-layer controller system structure. This structure includes the lower computer and the upper computer, which is the main controller with autonomous navigation functions. To exchange control messages, there is also a special communication protocol between the two controllers. In addition, different algorithms and circuits are designed according to the differences of each task and the characters of two controllers. The implementation approaches are presented in both hardware and algorithms as well. Finally, a series of experiments has been done, and the results show that the AGV from this new two-layer controller system design has perfect performance in motion, localization, path planning and other aspects.

Abstract:AGVs play an important role in unmanned factories and have broad prospects for development. Indoor vehicles are usually guided by magnetic tape / magnet, inertia, lidar, etc. These methods have some disadvantages. For example, magnet method is inconvenient due to a regular repair or replacement of tapes. In this paper, an advanced UWB method is used to navigate the AGV to the vicinity of the working position, and then computer vision technology is used to accurately determine the position of the vehicle, thereby establishing a high-precision AGV self-localization method. UWB can be applied to the situation of multi-AGVs interaction. Depth camera can also be used for obstacle detection and workpiece detection. Meanwhile, in order to make all different hardware and software work properly, an easy-scalable AGV control system is designed. Simple sensors can achieve complex functions.

Abstract:Purpose Automatic guided vehicles (AGVs) are widely used in industrial fields. But most control strategies merely take the lateral force into consideration. This will reduce the accuracy, stability and robustness and will pay additional costs. Therefore, this paper aims to design a control strategy that initially considers lateral force. Thereby, it will improve the accuracy, stability and robustness and reduce the overall cost of AGV. Design/methodology/approach To achieve the goal of comprehensively improving AGV operating performance, this paper presents a new scheme, combining the dual-wheeled chassis model (DCM) using proportional–integral–differential (PID) control and a supporting quick response (QR) code navigation technology. DCM is the core, which analyzes the deviation caused by lateral force. Then, DCM with PID control by the control law is combined to suppress the errors. Meanwhile, QR code navigation technology provides effective data support for the control strategy. Findings Most AGV experiments are carried out in a standard environment. However, this study prepares unfavorable scenarios and operating conditions for the experiments that generate detailed data to demonstrate this study’s strategy, which can make an accurate, stable and robust operation process of AGV under various adverse environmental and mechanical factors. Originality/value This study proposed DCM, fully considering lateral force and converting the force into velocity. Subsequently, PID controls the speed of two wheels to reduce the error. QR code provides an efficient and low – cost way to obtain information. The three are cleverly combined as a novel industrial AGV control strategy, which can comprehensively improve the operating performance while reducing overall costs.

Abstract:In order to study the AGV' s fixed track control mode, an AGV' s mathematic model of control system of the track deviation was built, and the dynamic structure chart through analyzing the interrelation between the deviation and the speed of the wheel was obtained. Through small deviation linearization, the nonlinear system was simplified into a single input/output system. Multipoint signal acquisition and fuzzy control theory are used to further improve the control precision of the AGV' s track deviation with sinusoidal signal loaded into the system, the system displays good following character and stability, which proves the approach is correct and workable.

Abstract:Abstract Automatic Guided Vehicle is an automatic transportation robot with high universality and diversity which can drive and transport goods automatically in the established path, so it is widely used in mass production and logistics industry. In this paper, an AGV system with independent guidance and integrated network control is designed and developed. Firstly, based on the project requirements of some company and the practical problems, the basic parameters of AGV are determined, and the movement analysis of AGV is carried out to obtain its motion characteristic equation for movement control. Then the hardware of the mechanical and electronic parts of the AGV is designed. Keil uVision 5 is used for software programming. Based on the core PID algorithms, the related algorithms design of AGV paths recognition and the movement control are presented. Finally, a small AGV capable of carrying a maximum weight of 8KG is trial-produced and tested. The test data show that the position deviation can be controlled within 15mm and the maximum speed can reach 1m/s. It can communicate with the host computer in various ways. Its expansibility, stability, accuracy and real-time performance all meet the requirements of the project.

Abstract:An AGV of two front passive wheels and two rear differential-driven wheels was designed.The nonholonomic state space equations in the flexible mode was obtained with the Newton method and the matrix analysis method taking the nonholonomic constraints and the friction force of the bearings into account and considering the motion speed and the turning velocity to be as the state parameters.Meanwhile,the motion control equation was designed with the full state feedback pole placement method,and the embedded control system of the DS87C520 controller and the PSD813F2 chips was also developed.The reliability,real-time and robust qualities of the nonholonomic state space,and the embedded control system were approved and validated with the simulation and the experiments.At last,some conclusions were drawn.

Abstract:Trajectory tracking is one of the key technologies to achieve mobile automated guided vehicle (AGV) and a necessary condition for the stable operation of AGV. At present, the most common AGV structure in the field of heavy load handling is the single steering wheel structure, most of the existing trajectory tracking algorithms are very complex and difficult to apply in practice. In this paper, the kinematic model is constructed by analyzing the kinematic state and structural characteristics of a single steering wheel AGV. The adaptive Kalman filtering algorithm is used to establish the equation of state with the position information of the AGV at the last moment and the three parameters set, then the observation equation is established with the position returned by the navigation sensor, and the new information obtained during the movement of the AGV is used to iteratively calculate the control law that makes the system asymptotically stable. The idea of a sliding data window was added to the controller, taking into account the effect of the ground flatness and body assembly tolerances on the control effect during the actual movement. The results show that the algorithm is simple and effective, and meets the requirements of AGV for trajectory tracking, and achieves the ideal application results.

Abstract:The primary focus of this work is exploitation of an intelligent control scheme to carry out deviation-correcting control for automated guided vehicles (AGVs). The proposed solution aims to be less sensitive to the parameter uncertainty, load and parameter variations, as well as meet the real-time requirement. This paper describes the deviation-correcting (position deviation and orientation deviation) control system based on fuzzy-PID analyze its performance with the laser guided AGV. The performance is evaluated through simulation experiments and the result demonstrates that the adopted fuzzy-PID control outperforms the conventional PID schemes, particularly in terms of many aspects, including response speed, steady-state error, control chatter, deviation correcting and robustness.

Abstract:The differential steering vehicle uses the in-wheel motors to drive the wheels directly and individually. However, in order to deliver the required structural robustness, the differential steering vehicle discarded the mechanical steering system and achieved vehicle steering by applying differential speed between the left and right wheels. This paper presents a novel speed-adaptive motion control algorithm based on the unique chassis configuration to enhance the performance in vehicle handling and lateral stability. The proposed control method first estimates the driver’s driving intention, from which reference wheel speeds are individually generated for each wheel based on their respective slipping and skidding status. Finally, the torque command is automatically adjusted by the speed-tracking controller by proactive adaptation of the wheel spinning resistance to effectively avoid excessive slip on low friction. This method exploits the fact that the torque at the steady state will always be equal to the available longitudinal force, thereby delivering the sophisticated tire force estimation without additional computational efforts, and ultimately helping conserve energy and promote lateral stability. The essential road information collected by this algorithm is also made available to drivers for improved vehicle controllability. The algorithm is subjected to three experimental case scenarios—pivot steering, low-friction driving, and curvilinear driving—through TruckSim–Simulink co-simulations and real vehicle tests, and the results have validated the algorithm in realizing the high-performance steering and maneuvering capabilities for six-wheeled differential steering vehicles.

Abstract:— According to the independence, accuracy and controllability of the driving/braking torque of the distributed drive electric vehicle, a control strategy of differential drive assisted steering was designed. Firstly, the assisted curve under different speed and steering wheel torque was developed and the differential torques were distributed to the right and left front wheels. Then the steering return ability assisted control algorithm was designed. At last, the joint simulation was conducted by CarSim/Simulink. The result indicated: the differential drive assisted steering algorithm could provide enough steering drive-assisted under low speed and improve the steering portability. Along with the increase of the speed, the provided steering drive-assisted decreased. With the control algorithm, the steering stiffness of the steering system increased along with the increase of the speed, which ensures the driver’s road feeling. The control algorithm of differential drive assisted steering could avoid the understeer under low speed effectively.

Abstract:Navigation and control of AGV(Automatic Guided Vehicle) is based on the accurate positioning information.Formerly AGV adopted electromagnetic inductive technology,machine vision technology or laser technology to position itself.It is difficult to modify the path when using electromagnetic inductive technology.The algorithm of machine vision technology is complex and has high expense.The circuit is complex and has high expense with the laser technology.A positioning system for AGV is designed based on the ultrasonic sensor.A method for measuring the TOF(Time of Flight) of ultrasonic signal accurately is presented.The position information and angle information of AGV can be obtained accurately at the same time by two ultrasonic emitting transducers working according to correct scheduling which settles the problem of signal disturbance.This simplified the machine structure.The trial shows that the system can position the AGV accurately in 2-D area.The experiments show that the system can position the head and the tail of the AGV with the precision ±3 mm in an area of 300 cm×400 cm exactly and real time.
