Abstract:In this paper, we designed Parallel C Language, a kind of parallel programming Language, to implement parallel computing in distributed systems. It is to add some special identification statements on ANSI C Language. The parallel computing is based on C/S mode, incorporating multithread and RPC(remote procedure call). Multithread is used to cut tasks and concurrent the subtasks, and RPC is used to deploy and execute the subtasks on remote server nodes. The allocation of remote server nodes is dependent on load balancing mechanism. We also implemented the Pre-compiler of this Parallel C Language program, which parses the Parallel C Language program into several RPC application files. The other RPC application files are constructed by RPCGEN. The result of test shows that using this Parallel C Language to program in distributed systems reduces the codes size and makes full use of the system resources and improves efficiency.
XCODE:An Extensible Component Description Language for System Software

Abstract:Components can be identified from various abstraction levels and can be of different granularities.The components for system software have special challenges for description purpose due to their inherent non-functional attributes and special attributes related to the peculiar role of an operating system.They often exhibit different forms during different phases of the development process of an embedded operating system.An extensible component description language named "XCODE" was presented here.As a XML-based language,XCODE can be envisioned various usage scenarios.It provides an extensible,tool independent,royalty-free approach to describe various aspects of components during Compile-Time,Link-Time and Run-Time.
A New Computing Model for C-Like Hardware Description Languages

Abstract:Traditional C-like hardware description languages are based on single dimensional computing model. They describe only behavior of designs, while cost information is leaved to be digging out by a synthesizer at late stage of design process. However, cost information is needed in high level synthesis for making trade-off among different aspects of cost to achieve global optimized design. To solve the problem, we extended traditional computing model to multi-dimensional so cost information can be included in the language, and integrated it to a popular C++ variant hardware description language - SystemC. The result language describes both behavior and cost of designs so trade-off can be made at relative high level during synthesis process and early stage of design process, thus make it easy to optimize designs for different target applications.

Abstract:Binary translation is used to allow applications of one instruction set architecture (ISA) to run on another, thereby maintaining the binary level compatibility across ISAs. Conventional software binary translation systems suffer performance loss because of architectural heterogeneity amongst ISAs, control flow translation and context switches. In this paper, we propose an FPGA based hardware-software co-designed dynamic binary translation (DBT) system, which moderates these issues at a low level of hardware cost. In our DBT system, we propose a MIPS condition code flags register and a modest ISA extension to bridge the architectural gap, a hardware address mapping mechanism to accelerate the handling of control flow instructions, and a scratchpad memory to reduce performance loss during context switches. We implement the system on Xilinx XC5VLX110T. Quantitative experiments reveal that the overall performance improvement is 56.1% over the baseline configuration, with only extra 1.4% of slices and 5.4% of BRAMs of Xilinx XC5VLX110T occupied.

Abstract:The design of an intermediate representation is critical to the portability of a compiler and the efficiency of code generation. In order to increase the reusability of compiler components, and to simplify the development process of compilers, the paper presents an abstract intermediate representation (AIR) that provides a concise notation for describing the abstract syntax of programming languages and the inner data structures of compilers. AIR integrates algebraic data types into the object-oriented paradigm and thus makes it have stronger expressive power, flexibility, and extensibility. AIR separates the abstract descriptions from the concrete implementation. This makes it easier to be implemented in different high-level languages and thus improves the interoperatibility of compiler components.

Abstract:Presented an open NC code interpreter,which is exploited by interpreter tools:Lex & Yacc.The specific structure of the interpreter and errors feedback control of the interpreter were analyzed afterwards.Due to the open structure of the interpreter,new NC code systems can be conveniently added in and interpreted.And the scheme is characterized by short development cycle and high efficiency.In the end,a successful application,the interpreter of GT100 CNC system is conducted to approve the correctness and effectiveness of the scheme.
CCC: An Aspect-Oriented Intermediate Language on .Net Platform

Abstract:The AOSD tools and methodologies have developed in a rapid speed in Java area. However, no matter how homologous .Net and Java are, AOP tools on .Net plat- form are still in experimental stage. The complex infrastructure and multi-language support make it hard to establish aspect-oriented programming on .Net. Microsoft provides Microsoft Intermediate Language(MSIL) to facilitate language implemen- tation on .Net platform. But MSIL doesn't support aspect-oriented languages. To facilitate aspect-oriented language implementation on .Net platform, it is best to provide an aspect-oriented intermediate language. This paper presents CCC, an aspect-oriented intermediate language on .Net plat- form. CCC stands for Common language Cross Cutter. Any aspect-oriented .Net language could first be transformed to CCC and then woven by CCC compiler. Since CCC supports high-level aspect-oriented language constructs directly, such as aspect, there is a little work to do for language implementation and the developers could concentrate on language design.

Continuation based C, CbC was implemented using micro-C on various architecture, and we have tried several CbC programming experiments. Here we report new implementation of CbC compiler based on GCC 4.2.3. Since it contains full C capability, we can use CbC and C in a mixture.

Abstract:For security, most web applications are developed in some type-safe language, such as JavaScript or Java. However, there is a huge amount of legacy codes developed in unsafe languages, which provide rich functionality and are more efficient than their type-safe counterparts. To allow browsers to incorporate type-safe components in a secure way, previous approaches use the software-based fault isolation (SFI) to isolate untrusted legacy code. The SFI approach performs machine-code transformation for security, but the downside is the loss of architecture independence. We propose WebC, a system that allows legacy code transmitted over the web via the Low Level Virtual Machine (LLVM) bitcode format. The untrusted bitcode is transformed by WebC into code in the WebC security language, which enforces both memory isolation and control-flow integrity. Compared with previous approaches, WebC is more portable, provides stronger security, and allows more flexible memory management. Experimental results show that the average runtime overhead of WebC is modest.

Abstract:In order to handle the complexity and heterogeneity of mod- ern instruction set architectures, analysis platforms share a common design, the adoption of hardware-independent intermediate representa- tions. The usage of these platforms to verify systems down to binary-level is appealing due to the high degree of automation they provide. How- ever, it introduces the need for trusting the correctness of the translation from binary code to intermediate language. Achieving a high degree of trust is challenging since this transpilation must handle (i) all the side effects of the instructions, (ii) multiple instruction encoding (e.g. ARM Thumb), and (iii) variable instruction length (e.g. Intel). We overcome these problems by formally modeling one of such intermediate languages in the interactive theorem prover HOL4 and by implementing a proof- producing transpiler. This tool translates ARMv8 programs to the in- termediate language and generates a HOL4 proof that demonstrates the correctness of the translation in the form of a simulation theorem. We also show how the transpiler theorems can be used to transfer properties verified on the intermediate language to the binary code.

An Extensible NC Program Interpreter for Open CNC Systems

Abstract:The NC program interpreter plays an important role in CNC systems. It checks for errors and translates NC programs into commands that can be executed by the CNC control module. NC program specifications differ a lot among different CNC manufacturers. However, the existing NC program interpreters only support one specific program format, which increases the programming difficulty and enterprise cost. Meanwhile, due to the closed interpreter structure, it is difficult to develop and implement new CNC function instructions, which limits the openness of CNC systems. In order to solve these problems, this paper presented a novel analysis of NC language's grammar, and designed a set of hierarchical and modular Extend Backus-Naur Form (EBNF) expressions to describe NC language. An extensible interpreter based on EBNF was proposed. Through interaction with users to add new instructions, the system can utilize lexical analyzer (Lex) and yet another compiler compiler (Yacc) to generate a new matching interpreter. This method can also help users to produce a matching interpreter for a specific NC program specification. A prototype interpreter was developed successfully, the validity of which was verified by tests.
Bi-X Core: A General-Purpose Bidirectional Transformation Language

Abstract:Bi-X Core is a general-purpose bidirectional transformation language, aiming to implement various systems that need synchronization between their input data and output data. In syntax, Bi-X Core is afi rst-orderλ-calculus extended with two structured data types, tuple and variant. For ease of use, some functional languages with more syntactic sugar can be defined based on Bi-X Core. The technical problem we solve in this paper is how to define bidirectional semantics for a general-pupose functional language. Bi-X Core is an ongoing work, and some examples are presented to demonstrate its usefulness.

Abstract:Distributed collective systems are systems formed by homogeneous dynamic collections of devices acting in a shared environment to pursue a joint task or goal . Typical applications emerge in the context of wireless sensor networks, robot swarms, groups of wearable-augmented people, and computing infrastructures. Programming such systems is notoriously hard, due to requirements of scalability, concurrency, faults, and difficulty in making desired collective behaviour ultimately emerge: ad-hoc languages and mechanisms have been proposed threads like spatial computing, macro-programming, and field-based coordination. In this paper we present the eXchange Calculus ( XC ), formalising a tiny set of key mechanisms, usable across many different languages and platforms, allowing to express the overall interactive behaviour of distributed collective systems in a declarative way. In this approach, computation (executed in asynchronous rounds), communication (which is neighbour-based), and state over time, are all expressed by a single declarative construct, called exchange . We provide a formalisation of XC in terms of syntax, device-level and network-level semantics, prove a number of properties of the calculus, and discuss applicability considering a smart city scenario. XC is implemented as a DSL in Scala and in C++, with different trade-offs in terms of productivity and platform targetting.

Abstract:Control Flow Integrity (CFI) is an effective technique to mitigate threats such as code-injection and code-reuse attacks in programs by protecting indirect transfers. For stripped binaries, a CFI policy has to be made conservatively due to the lack of source code level semantics. Existing binary-only CFI solutions such as BinCFI and CCFIR demonstrate the ability to protect stripped binaries, but the policies they apply are too permissive, allowing sophisticated code-reuse attacks. In this paper, we propose a new binary-only CFI protection scheme called BinCC, which applies static binary rewriting to provide finer-grained protection for x86 stripped ELF binaries. Through code duplication and static analysis, we divide the binary code into several mutually exclusive code continents. We further classify each indirect transfer within a code continent as either an Intra-Continent transfer or an Inter-Continent transfer, and apply separate, strict CFI polices to constrain these transfers. To evaluate BinCC, we introduce new metrics to estimate the average amount of legitimate targets of each kind of indirect transfer as well as the difficulty to leverage call preceded gadgets to generate ROP exploits. Compared to the state of the art binary-only CFI, BinCFI, the experimental results show that BinCC significantly reduces the legitimate transfer targets by 81.34% and increases the difficulty for adversaries to bypass CFI restriction to launch sophisticated ROP attacks. Also, BinCC achieves a reasonable performance, around 14% of the space overhead decrease and only 4% runtime overhead increase as compared to BinCFI.

Abstract:The Xapagy cognitive architecture had been designed to perform narrative reasoning: to model and mimic the activities performed by humans when witnessing, reading, recalling, narrating and talking about stories. Xapagy communicates with the outside world using Xapi, a simplified, "pidgin" language which is strongly tied to the internal representation model (instances, scenes and verb instances) and reasoning techniques (shadows and headless shadows). While not fully a semantic equivalent of natural language, Xapi can represent a wide range of complex stories. We illustrate the representation technique used in Xapi through examples taken from folk physics, folk psychology as well as some more unusual literary examples. We argue that while the Xapi model represents a conceptual shift from the English representation, the mapping is logical and consistent, and a trained knowledge engineer can translate between English and Xapi at near-native speed.

XEMU: a Cross-Isa Full-System Emulator on Multiple Processor Architectures.

Abstract:Cross-instruction set architecture ISA full-system emulator plays an important role in reusing binary codes across different architectures. With the rapid development of multi-core technology, it is desirable to build a high-performance multi-core emulator rather than conventional single core emulator. However, current mainstream cross-ISA full-system emulator can only work sequentially, which seriously confines the parallelism. In order to take the advantage of parallelism of host platform to emulate multi processor architecture, this paper presents XE-MU, a cross-ISA full-system emulator on multiple processor architectures. Firstly, efficient methods are targeted to translate atomic instructions. Secondly, we study the approach to emulation of communications for inter-core and core-to-I/O devices. For the implementation, we utilise both GCC built-in-functions and LL/SC instructions-based methods to translate the atomic instructions. We propose a portable and efficient lock-free queue implementation for communications in virtual machine. In order to verify the effectiveness of these methods, we conducted experiments on the Loongson-3A hardware platform. Experimental results demonstrate that both methods are able to enhance the performance of the emulator and reduce the overhead of inter-core communication with interrupts; thereby, the efficiency of the emulator can be greatly improved.
CP-BCS: Binary Code Summarization Guided by Control Flow Graph and Pseudo Code

Abstract:Automatically generating function summaries for binaries is an extremely valuable but challenging task, since it involves translating the execution behavior and semantics of the low-level language (assembly code) into human-readable natural language. However, most current works on understanding assembly code are oriented towards generating function names, which involve numerous abbreviations that make them still confusing. To bridge this gap, we focus on generating complete summaries for binary functions, especially for stripped binary (no symbol table and debug information in reality). To fully exploit the semantics of assembly code, we present a control flow graph and pseudo code guided binary code summarization framework called CP-BCS. CP-BCS utilizes a bidirectional instruction-level control flow graph and pseudo code that incorporates expert knowledge to learn the comprehensive binary function execution behavior and logic semantics. We evaluate CP-BCS on 3 different binary optimization levels (O1, O2, and O3) for 3 different computer architectures (X86, X64, and ARM). The evaluation results demonstrate CP-BCS is superior and significantly improves the efficiency of reverse engineering.

Abstract:This paper mainly discusses s2cpp that is a translator of Smalltalk to C++. Generally, the translators of programming languages can be classified into two types. The first type is the translation between two specific programming languages. The second type is the translation between any two programming languages. Although s2cpp belongs to the first type, the use of intermediate pseudocodes allows it to be easily modified to be a translator of Smalltalk to other programming languages. We describe the architecture of s2cpp as well as some issues in designing and implementing the translator. Some results concerning the translation were given in the end.
