Abstract:The effects of gadolinium on the synaptic transmission in the superior cervical sympathetic ganglion of rabbits were studied by the sucrose-gap method. GdCl_(3)(40-160 μmol·L~(-1) enhanced ganglion compound action potentials(AP). The facilitatory action of GdCl_(3) on the AP was enhanced in the solution with high Ca~(2+) and not observed in that without Ca~(2+). The Ca~(2+) channel blocker verapamil antagonized the facilitatory action of GdCl_(3). GdCl_(3)(40-160μmol·L~(-1))also facilitated the spike after-hyperpolarization (AH) and N wave. GdCl_(3)(0.5-1mmol·L~(-1))depressed the AP. This effect was reduced by high Ca~(2+). The AH and N wave were depressed by GdCl_(3)(0.5-1mmol·L~(-1). The perfusion of GdCl_(3)(0.5mmol·L~(-1))depressed acetylcholine depolarization which was not affected by the perfusion of GdCl_(3)(40-160μmol·L~(-1)).
