Abstract:Color mutants, which are important materials for molecular breeding and gene function research,as marker characters could be used on identification the purity of variety and utilization of the sterile line in maize. Therefore, based on spontaneous mutation of tassel to further study on gene mapping for glumes colors with a significant theoretical and practical significance for the gene cloning and molecular marker assisted breeding in maize. In this study,a set of segregating population,F2,derived from the two inbred lines,48-2 and Huangyesi, which show a band of red color near the base of the glumes of the tassel, whereas that is green at this point, respectively, was used as a mapping population. The red glume collar and its inheritance were studied by SSR molecular marker in maize. The results showed that the red glume collar was a qualitative trait controlled by a dominant gene,Rab1, which tightly linked with the molecular marker bnlg2277 on chromosome 2 in maize, and then it was mapped within marker interval umc2195 and umc1185,with the genetic distances of 2. 5,0. 4 cM and the physical distance of 2. 1 Mb,respectively.
