Abstract:The objective of this research is to understand how Chinese traffic policemen view the traffic safety and management in China. Based on a questionnaire survey to about 100 policemen in four cities, the study has researched some relative road safety problems from the perspectives of the public security traffic managers. Informed conclusions that the safety awareness and behavior of the transportation participants and the safety standard of the road infrastructures are the two most important aspects affecting road safety; the imperfect operation system and law systems of traffic safety management and outdated facilities are serious problems in traffic safety management; the people of 13–25 years old age group, urban migrant workers and rural residents, non-motor vehicles and motorcycles are the major groups who need to be managed; evaluation and to enhance safety performance of transportation participants' behavior should be based on their subjective initiative, focus on traffic safety awareness, traffic behavioral habits, traffic safety laws and regulations and knowledge of safe behavior; the theory and method of traffic behavior safety assessment are unitary, group variation is obvious, the evaluation index weights are difficult to determine. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an auxiliary evaluation system.
