Abstract:Objective To investigate the preventive effects of tramadol and midazolam on shiver reaction in cesarean section. Methods 120 ASA Ⅰ-Ⅱ parturients undergoing scheduled cesarean section were divided randomly into 3 groups (40 parturients in each group). After entering operating-room,the parturients in group Ⅰ ,Ⅱ and Ⅲ received intravenous tramadol 1 mg/kg, midazolam 0. 04 mg/kg or normal saline 2 ml,respectively. The shiver reaction were observed and recorded during the operation and Ap-gar scores were assessed at 1 minute and 5 minute after delivery. Results Shivers were happened in 0,8 and 17 parturients during cesarean delivery in group I, groupⅡ and group Ⅲ,respectively. The severity of shivering in group Ⅱ was much lighter than that in group I.In group Ⅱ,there were 5 and 3 parturients shivering in grade 1 and 2,respectively,while in group Ⅲ,10,6 and 1 parturients shivering in grade 1,2 and 3,respectively.The severity and prevalence of shivering had statistical difference among 3 groups (P 0. 05 or 0. 01).The parturient's shivering in grade 2 and 3 were treated with intravenous tramadol 1 mg/kg,the shivering were abolished in 10 minutes later. Apgar scores were no difference in 3 groups at 1 minute and 5 minute after newborns output (P0.05).Conclusion Both of tramadol and midazolam can prevent shivering reaction during cesarean delivery under epidural anesthesia, and tramadol was better than midazolam.
