Abstract:The inverted pendulum is a mechanical idealization which poses an interesting and difficult problem in control. In this paper, a robust control algorithm based on sliding mode is employed to control: a triple inverted pendulum system with single input. The employment of such a technique appears: necessary because the traditional linear design process cannot incorporate the nonlinear dynamics of such system due to physical limitations. The new controller satisfies the required dynamic characteristics of the triple inverted pendulum system and keeps the system in the sliding mode surface from initial time. Simulation results showed the validity and feasibility of the proposed technique.

Abstract:This paper firstly analyses the physical model of planar single inverted pendulum system, then builds the mathematical model of this system based on Lagrangian mechanics. These characteristics: multi-parameter, less-driven, strong coupling and highly nonlinearity make it difficult to stabilize the planar inverted pendulum system. But nearby the upright equilibrium of this system, the nonlinear mathematical model of the system can be linearized and get decoupled in X-axis and Y-axis. Then two LQR controllers are designed for each linear inverted pendulum in each axis respectively, and they are almost the same. At last, the simulation experiments in MATLAB test and verify the mathematical model is right and the control policy is effective. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:The double inverted pendulum is an absolute unstable, high-order, multi-parameter, less-driven and nonlinear system. To stabilize the inverted pendulum, the incremental mathematical model of this system is built based on the Lagrangian mechanics. The discrete-time model predictive control based on the Laguerre series is a new novel control technology, which uses Laguerre series to represent the trace of control signal in the future and optimizes the trace simultaneously. What's more, the technology can bring in the digital integral factor in the control system to improve the ability of anti-interference. So it is applied to stabilize the double inverted pendulum. The simulation experiment shows that the control strategy is effective and practical. © 2011 IEEE.

Abstract:As a typical controlled system,the inverted pendulum is al ways the ideal research platform from theory to practice.In this paper,the googol high-order linear inverted pendulum is used as teaching platform,the teaching experimental system and dynamic mathematical models are built,the several typical control experiment design process and simulation results are given.The results show that the designed experimental system is feasible,effective and scalable,enriching the content of the experimental teaching,and supporting the reform of the designing experiment teaching.

Abstract:The paper established mathematical models of inverted pendulum system, based on the mechanical analysis on the inverted pendulum system. It designed a PID controller for the inverted pendulum system. The simulation result showed that the inverted pendulum system based on PID had good performance. In addition, the real-time control of the pendulum has been accomplished successfully based on the real-time control model built in Simulink. The results of simulation and real-time control experiment show that the pendulum can maintain balance in vertical upward direction by the simple PID controller for the pendulum angle.

Abstract:The inverted pendulum is a non-linear unbalanced system that needs to be controlled using motors to achieve stability and equilibrium. The inverted pendulum is constructed with Lego and using the Lego Mindstorm NXT, which is a programmable robot capable of completing many different functions. In this paper, an initial design of the inverted pendulum is proposed and the performance of different sensors, which are compatible with the Lego Mindstorm NXT was studied. Furthermore, the ability of computer vision to achieve the stability required to maintain the system is also investigated. The inverted pendulum is a conventional cart that can be controlled using a Fuzzy Logic controller that produces a self-tuning PID control for the cart to move on. The fuzzy logic and PID are simulated in MATLAB and Simulink, and the program for the robot is developed in the LabVIEW software.

Abstract:In this paper, angular control of the pendulum and position control of the cart for an inverted pendulum are considered, and the design of its four typical controllers are introduced by using PID control, fuzzy control, state feedback control and TC control. Simulation results and Monte-Carlo experiments show that the four controllers have good performance and robustness when the initial angle is 0.3 radians.

Abstract:Control of an inverted pendulum is a classical example of the stabilisation problem pertaining to systems that are unstable by nature. The reaction wheel and the motor act as actuators, generating the torque needed to stabilise the system and counteract inevitable disturbances. This paper begins by describing the design and physical implementation of a wheel-based inverted pendulum. Subsequently, the process of designing and testing the proportional–integral–derivative (PID) and unknown input Kalman-filter-based linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controllers is performed. In particular, the design and pre-validation were carried out in the Matlab/Simulink environment. The final validation step was realised using a constructed physical pendulum, with a digital controller implemented using the STM32 board. Finally, a set of various physical disturbances were introduced to the system to show the high reliability and superiority of the proposed Kalman-filter-based LQR strategy.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, two mathematical models of the primary inverted pendulum are established based on the Simulink and the Simscape toolboxes of the MATLAB respectively. The inverted pendulum changes from the unstable state to the stable state after performing the state feedback control and the PID control method. Under these two control methods, the overshoot of the Simulink model is 57% and 80% smaller, and the adjustment time is 25% and 20% larger than that of the Simscape model. The control effect of the PID method in the two models is better than that of the state feedback method. The adjustment time of the pendulum rod is 40% and 37.5% smaller, and the overshoot is 82% and 61% smaller than that of state feedback control, respectively.

Abstract:The hardware of an inverted pendulum system was developed with low-cost and high reliability and stability, Meanwhile, a novel expert fuzzy control scheme and the MATLAB-based real-time control approach was proposed. The number of fuzzy control rules was significantly reduced by combining related variables, and the control performance was greatly improved by adopting a suitable rule-base according to the angle of the pole with the vertical. The proposed control scheme was implemented in MATLAB and showed a good performance in the real-time fuzzy control of the developed inverted pendulum.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to present an in-depth survey of the rotary single inverted pendulum system from a control engineer's point of view. The scope of the survey includes modeling and open-loop analysis of the system as well as design and verification of balancing and swing up controllers which ensure successful stabilization of the pendulum in the unstable upright equilibrium. All relevant tasks and simulation experiments are conducted using the appropriate function blocks, GUI applications and demonstration schemes from a Simulink block library developed by the authors of the paper. The library is called Inverted Pendula Modeling and Control (IPMaC) and offers comprehensive program support for modeling, simulation and control of classical (linear) and rotary inverted pendulum systems.

Abstract:In this paper, a single-stage rotary inverted pendulum system is set up by using rotary encoder, servo motor and some mechanical structures. Lagrange equation is used to build up the mathematic model of single-stage rotary inverted pendulum. Linear quadratic regulator (LQR) and fuzzy control method are used to achieve the control functions of the rotary inverted pendulum. Experiments are taken to verify this control strategy through Matlab simulation. The system is realized on STM32 development board.

Abstract:In this paper a new arm-driven inverted pendulum (ADIP) is presented. Thedevice is made up of a pendulum and a rotated arm. The pendulum is the top link and is driven by the rotated arm, which is connected to a motor. The pendulum and the rotated arm can rotate in vertical plane. The mathematical model is established and linearized at its balanced points, then a state feedback controller is designed using continuous system's pole arranging. The simulation of the controller is acquired under the environment of MATLAB SIMULINK. At last, real time control of ADIP is accomplished.

Abstract:The paper discussed the inverted-pendulum model in detail. The pendulum resistance is considered which makes the model closer to the actual application. The simulation experiment results show that even when pendulum resistance coefficient is small, i.e. 0.005, the system performance is obvious affected. So the pendulum resistance is necessary to be considered in the model. The Linear Quadratic Regulator is designed for the inverted-pendulum system. Both pendulum angle and carriage displacement can be controlled with the regulator. We did the initial pendulum angle experiments and the disturbance experiments show that the system performance and stability are good.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an adaptive stabilizer to solve the stability problem of single inverted pendulum system. The stabilizer, which consists of a nested saturation feedback controller and a logic-based online-tuning mechanism, is designed for a class of nonlinear feed-forward systems. The function of the online-tuning mechanism is to adjust the level of saturation in the controller according to the design of switching logic. Moreover, by using coordination transformation, we work out the mathematical model of single inverted pendulum system in the form of a nonlinear feed-forward system, and then move on to the simulation after designing the stabilizer. The simulation results showed that the stabilizer can effectively achieve the stability of single inverted pendulum system.

Abstract:The inverted pendulum is controlled in this article by using the nonlinear control theory. From classical analytical mechanics, its substructure equation of motion is derived. Because of the inclusion of the restoring forces, the Taylor expansion is employed to facilitate the analysis. An estimated satisfactory periodic solution is obtained with the aid of the modified Homotopy perturbation method. A numerical technique based on the fourth-order Runge-Kutta method is employed to justify the previous solution. On the other hand, a positive position feedback control is developed to dampen the vibrations of an IP system subjected to multi-excitation forces. The multiple time scale perturbation technique of the second order is introduced as a mathematical method to solve a two-degree-of-freedom system that simulates the IP with the PPF at primary and 1:1 internal resonance. The stability of these solutions is checked with the aid of the Routh-Hurwitz criterion. A set of graphs, based on the frequency response equations resulting from the MSPT method, is incorporated. Additionally, a numerical simulation is set up with RK-4 to confirm the overall controlled performance of the studied model. The quality of the solution is confirmed by the match between the approximate solution and the numerical simulation. Numerous other nonlinear systems can be controlled using the provided control method. Illustrations are offered that pertain to implications in design and pedagogy. The linearized stability of IP near the fixed points as well as the phase portraits is depicted for the autonomous and non-autonomous cases. Because of the static stability of the IP, it is found that its instability can be suppressed by the increase of both the generalized force as well as the torsional constant stiffness of the spring. Additionally, the presence of the magnetic field enhances the stability of IP.

Abstract:This paper presents a dynamic model of a planar flexible inverted pendulum system under the frame of multi-body dynamics by floating frame of reference formulation (FFRF). By proper simplification and linearization, the state space equation of the system was established for linear analysis and control design. The simulation method for such a coupled system by multi-body dynamics program was also provided. The designed controller with a simple low-pass filter for the flexible inverted pendulum was validated by the simulation of a simple flexible pendulum sample. The result demonstrates a new method of designing and verifying a feedback controller of a flexible multi-body system.

Abstract:Nonlinear PID controller(NLPID) control plan is proposed for single-input-two-output unstable invert pendulum system with strong nonlinearity and strong coupling,with two controllers for controling the position of dolly and the angle of haulm,which can realize close-loop controlling of the position of dolly and the angle of haulm simultaneity.The results demonstrate that this plan has the advantages of high effectiveness,good feasibility and better anti-disturbance properties.
