Abstract:E. adenophorum Spreng is one of the worst invasive alien plants into China. It brings great harm to the ecological environment in the Southwest of China. A controlled pot-experiment cultivated withE. adenophorum was arranged with different treatments of lead and cadmium concentrations in field. Growth and absorption enrichment responses ofE. adenophorum Spreng to lead, cadmium and their combined stress were evaluated in order to provide integrate strategies ofE. adenophorum. A pot experiment was study to observe the growth responses, accumulation and transfer characteristics ofE. adenophorum in different concentrations of lead, cadmium. Results showed that there was a positive effect on the growth of E. adenophorum under low concentrations for both lead and cadmium but negative effect in high concentration, with the decreasing biomass,shorter plant height and root length. Lead and cadmium. Absorption content of E. adenophorum had a favorable correlation with contaminated soil, which increased significantly with the conbined treatment concentrations raising. lead and cadmium concentration of the roots, stems and leaves ofE. adenophorum was much higher in corresponding treatments. The lead content of roots, stems and leaves ofE. adenophorum were 603.69, 568.31 and 598.85 mg·kg-1, respectively, when the plants were treated with 1000 mg·kg-1 lead in soil. The cadmium contents in the roots, stems and leaves were 165.21, 93.59 and 152.79 mg·kg-1, respectively, under the 100 mg·kg-1 cadmium stress.E. adenophorum has good capacity of absorption, accumulation and transfer under heavy metals stress of lead and cadmium and it can, therefore, be used as ideal plant to repair composite pollution soil of heavy metals.

Abstract:The CI-340 photosynthetic system was used to monitor the photosynthetic diurnal variation of Eupatorium adenophorum at the reproductive stage and determine the relationship between photosynthetic diurnal variation and environmental factors for providing the useful information for control E.adenophorum in natural condition.The results of this study indicated that the diurnal variation of net photosynthetic rate(Pn) presented a double-peak curve,peaking at 11:00 and 13:00,and this study also showed an obvious midday depression.The stomatal conductance(Gs) and transpiration rate(Tr) were positively consistent with Pn from 9:00 to 14:00,and then increased slightly,and they showed a three-peak curve.The intercellular CO2 concentration(Ci) was significantly negative correlation with stomatal limitation value(Ls)(R=-0.997 6**),presenting the single-peak curve.At the reproductive stage of E.adenophorum,Pn was mainly affected by Tr,Leaf Water Deficit and leaf temperature,and greatly regulated by photosynthetic active radiation(R=0.860 0**).This study suggested that the comprehensive control measures of E.adenophorum focused on choosing the more strongly photosynthesis replaced plants,herbicide,chemical control time.
Distribution Pat Terns of Eupatorium Adenophorum along Dian-Mamyer International Road and Its Relation with Environmental Factors

Abstract:Invasion of exotic plant Eupatorium adenophorum along Dian-Mamyer international road has resulted in not ecological stresses, but also economic loss problems. In order to clarify about the distribution pattern of this plant along Dian-Mamyer international road and its relationship with road and environment factors, the field survey on the presence, abundance and dominance of this exotic plant were conducted in 107 plots and 34 sites. The results indicate that the presence of this exotic plant is significantly (P0.01 or P0.05) correlated, but the abundance of this plant is insignificantly (P0.05) correlated to the location, type, age and land-use of road. The dominance of this plant is significantly correlated to the land-use type of road and distance to the road. The presence of this exotic plant along Dali-Lijiang Section is quite higher than that along Baoshan-Dali, Mangshi-Baoshan and Ruili-Mangshi Sections (P0.05). The presence of this exotic plant is higher (P0.05) in spoil ground and cross bridge ground than other land-use of road. The dominance of this exotic plant decreases significantly (P0.05) with the distance to the road. The distribution of this exotic plant long international road is limited only by latitude and longitude, but by altitude, slope and aspect. The soil organic matter, total nitrogen, total phosphorus are positively (P0.05) correlated to the presence of this exotic plant. Vegetation type is significantly (P0.01) correlated with the abundance and the dominance of this exotic plant. Secondary vegetation in waste land and land-use of road can be easily affected by invasion of Eupatorium adenophorum. Increasing cover of native shrub under good protection is possibly an ideal option to control and block the invasion of Eupatorium adenophorum
Study on the Seed Quality Characteristics of Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng

Abstract:[Objective] The aim was to analyze the character and life-span of Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng seed.[Method] The perennial E.adenophorum seeds grown in 5 habitats of candlenut forestlands,barren hills,roadside,abandoned farmlands,returned farmlands were collected so as to measure the fruit bearing amount,seed germination rate,seed germination energy,1 000-grain weight,water content etc.of the seeds grown in different habitats and analyze the life-span of E.adenophorum seed.[Result] The highest bud number per plant of E.adenophorum was 334,the lowest one was 34 and the average was 131;the average seed number of each bud was 56 and the seed yield of each plant was up to 7 336;the average 1 000-grain weight of E.adenophorum was 0.084 2 g and the average water content was 55.26%;the germination rate of E.adenophorum seeds was 22.00% when laid for 444 d,the average germination rate was 39.30% during this time;the germination rate of seeds was 5.80% placed for 510 d,which was 50.00% obviously lower than that in normal germination,showing that the life-span of the seeds reached 510 d;the E.adenophorum seed began to germinate at 4th d after setting in the seedling bed,being up to the germination peak period at 6th～7th d and the germination energy was 10.00%-25.00%.[Conclusion] The seed of E.adenophorum was the life-span seed and had a short hibernation period.

Characterization of defensive cadinenes and a novel sesquiterpene synthase responsible for their biosynthesis from the invasive Eupatorium adenophorum

Abstract:<ul class="unordered-list"><li>Eupatorium adenophorum is a malignant invasive plant possessing extraordinary defense potency, but its chemical weaponry and formation mechanism have been rarely investigated. </li><li>We identified six cadinene sesquiterpenes including two volatiles (amorpha‐4,7(11)‐diene and (–)‐amorph‐4‐en‐7‐ol) and four non‐volatiles (9‐oxo‐10,11‐dehydroageraphorone, muurol‐4‐en‐3,8‐dione, 9‐oxo‐ageraphorone and 9β‐hydroxy‐ageraphorone) as the major constitutive and inducible chemicals of E. adenophorum. All cadinenes showed potent antifeedant activity against a generalist insect Spodoptera exigua, indicating their significant defensive roles. </li><li>We cloned and functionally characterized a sesquiterpene synthase from E. adenophorum (EaTPS1) catalyzing the conversion of farnesyl diphosphate to amorpha‐4,7(11)‐diene and (–)‐amorph‐4‐en‐7‐ol that were purified from engineered Escherichia coli and identified by extensive NMR spectroscopy. EaTPS1 was highly expressed in the above‐ground organs, which was congruent with the dominant distribution of cadinenes, suggesting that EaTPS1 is likely involved in cadinene biosynthesis. Mechanical wounding and methyl jasmonate negatively regulated EaTPS1 expression but caused the release of amorpha‐4,7(11)‐diene and (–)‐amorph‐4‐en‐7‐ol. Nicotiana benthamiana transiently expressing EaTPS1 also produced amorpha‐4,7(11)‐diene and (–)‐amorph‐4‐en‐7‐ol, and showed enhanced defense function. </li><li>The findings uncovered the chemical defense role and formation mechanism of E. adenophorum that probably contribute to invasive success of this plant, and also provided a tool for manipulating the biosynthesis of biologically active cadinene natural products. </li></ul>

Study on Enhancement of Wetting Property of Herbicide on Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng Leaves by Petroleum Oil

Abstract:The surface tensions of the picloram solution and sulfometureon-methyl solution contained different concentrations petroleum oil were determined. The results proved that the petroleum oil could obviously reduce the surface tension of the hebicides solution, namely, the surface tension of picloram solution could decreased to 37 mN/m from 80 mN/m and sulfometureon methyl solution could decreased to 40 mN/m from 90 mN/m. The contact angle's changes with time was studied that of picloram solution and sulfometureon methyl solution contained different concentrations petroleum oil on Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng leaves. So the time when the drop and the leaves reached a state of equilibrium, that was the proper time of determining contact angle, was ascertained. Further, the contact angles were measured at the time determined before, and we could find the added petroleum oil's minimum concentration which is enough to enhance the solution's wetting property on the leaves while the contact angle is less relatively. Hope the results could provide some assistance to control and eliminate Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng. The conclusions could be drawn that the equilibrium time was 50 s. The better ones of the groups contained the herbicide and the petroleum oil were followed as: 0.2 - 0.4 g/L picloram with 0.020 % - 0.040 % petroleum oil; 0.4 - 0.8 g/L picloram with 0.004% - 0.040% petroleum oil; 0.8 - 1.6 g/L picloram with 0.004% petroleum oil; 0.1 - 0.2 g/L sulfometureon methyl with 0.020% petroleum oil; 0.2 - 0.4 g/L sulfometureon methyl with 0.020% - 0.040% petroleum oil; 0.4 to 0.8 g/L sulfometureon methyl with 0.020% to 0.040% petroleum oil.
Eupatorium perfoliatum L.: phytochemistry, traditional use and current applications

Abstract:Ethnopharmacological relevance: Eupatorium perfoliatum L. originates from North America, where it has been widely used since centuries by native Indians. Additionally extracts are used also in Europe as immunostimulating agent for treatment of fever and cold. The following review summarizes published data on phytochemistry, ethnopharmacological use, as well as clinical and preclinical data. Materials and methods: Literature survey was performed via SciFinder(®) on papers and patents and by systematic research in ethnopharmacological literature at various university libraries. Results: The phytochemical composition of Eupatorium perfoliatum is described in detail for volatile oil, caffeic acid derivatives, flavonoids, sesquiterpene lactones, tannins, polysaccharides. Methods for analytical quality control, as well as specification for relevant lead structures can be deduced from published batch analysis. Preclinical studies indicate anti-inflammatory effects of ethanolic extracts, which can be correlated on a molecular level to eupafolin and sesquiterpen lactones. Antiplasmodial, antioxidative and immunomodulating activities are additionally discussed. Clinical data on the use of Eupatorium perfoliatum do not meet modern GCP requirements, but do indicate positive tendencies for use of ethanolic extracts for treatment of common colds. Conclusion: While the postulated immunostimulating properties of Eupatorium perfoliatum have not been confirmed by in vitro data, animal-studies and in vitro experiments with plant extracts both indicate antiinflammatory effects beside antiplasmodial effect against Plasmodium falciparum. Such an antiinflammation caused by the ethanolic extracts can be correlated well with clinical symptoms related to diseases as common cold, rheumatism, athritis etc. These data also support the plausibility of the plant's traditional use by the North American indigenous population and early European settlers. In principle quality aspects of the herbal material have to be affirmed by establishing modern pharmacopoeial control methods to guarantee constant and reliable quality.

Abstract:The genus Eupatorium belongs to the Asteraceae (Compositae) family and has multiple properties, such as invasiveness and toxicity, and is used in folk medicine. The last review on the chemical constituents of this genus and their biological activities was published in 2015. The present review provides an overview of 192 natural products discovered from 2015 to the present. These products include 63 sesquiterpenoids, 53 benzofuran derivatives, 39 thymol derivatives, 15 fatty acids, 7 diterpenoids, 5 monoterpenoids, 4 acetophenones, and 6 other compounds. We also characterized their respective chemical structures and cytotoxic, antifungal, insecticidal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antinociceptive activities.

Abstract:Aims: To investigate the inhibition potential of leaf-associated bacteria against the pathogen of bacterial leaf spot of Euphorbia pulcherrima. Methods and Results: Seven out of 200 bacterial strains were effective antagonists by in vitro screening and the two strains PAB241 and PAB242 significantly reduced the disease incidence and severity as foliar treatments of E. pulcherrima. The two effective strains, PAB241 and PAB242, were both identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens by a polyphasic approach including phenotypic feature, carbon source utilization profile, fatty acid methyl esters and analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequence. In addition, the suspensions of B. amyloliquefaciens PAB241 and PAB242 showed antibacterial activities against the pathogen of bacterial leaf spot of E. pulcherrima under different treatments. Conclusions: The leaf-associated bacteria, B. amyloliquefaciens PAB241 and PAB242, markedly inhibited the growth of X. axonopodis pv. poinsettiicola under different treatments and protected E. pulcherrima from pathogen infection in growth chamber conditions. Significance and Impact of the Study: This is the first study that showed B. amyloliquefaciens from plant leaves was a potential bactericide against bacterial leaf spot of E. pulcherrima.
Subcellular distribution and chemical forms of lead in Eupatorium adenophorum at different lead levels

Abstract:The differential centrifugation technique and sequential chemical extraction method were used to study the subcellular distribution and chemical forms of lead in the roots, leaves and stems of Eupatorium adenophorum. The re-sults showed that with the increasing of lead levels, the contents of lead in subcellular distribution of leaves, stems and roots significant increased. The lead distributed mainly in the soluble partition and cell wall in leaves, occupied 75.34%-84.63% of the total. Lead distributed in stems were similar to it in leaves. It mainly accumulated in the solu-ble partition and cell wall, which occupied 36.10%-57.14% and 20.07%-36.52%, respectively. And it distributed mainly in cell wall and soluble partition in roots, which occupied 39.20%-49.78%and 28.27%-37.62%, respective-ly. There was less lead in other organelles. The chemical forms of lead in leaves of E. adenophorum were mainly in HCl and water, occupied 58.74%-73.04% of the total. In stems, the main chemical forms were HAc and NaCl, and the chemical forms of HAc and HCl were predominant in roots, occupied 39.15%-52.91% of the total.
Chemical profile and phytotoxic action of Onopordum acanthium essential oil

Abstract:Abstract The potential of utilizing Onopordum acanthium essential oil and its major constituents as environment friendly herbicides was investigated. In total 29, 25, and 18 compounds were identified from flower, leaf, and stem oils, representing 94.77%, 80.02%, and 90.74% of the total oil, respectively. Flower and stem oils were found to be rich in n -alkanes, which accounted for 57.33% in flower oil, and 82.33% in stem oil. Flower oil exerted potent inhibitory activity on both receiver species, Amaranthus retroflexus and Poa annua , which nearly completely suppressed seed germination at 5 mg/mL, and β-eudesmol is the most likely responsible compound for its phytotoxicity; in comparison, leaf and stem oils exhibited much weaker inhibitory activity on A. retroflexus , and stimulatory effect on P. annua when tested concentration was below 2.5 mg/mL. Alkanes in the oils were found to exert relatively weak plant growth regulatory activity. This report is the first on the chemical profile and phytotoxic action of O. acanthium oil as well as the phytotoxicity of β-eudesmol.

Abstract:The chemical analysis on the aerial sections of Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng. resulted in the identification of four unprecedented 5/5 fused bicyclosesquiterpenoids, eupatorid A ( 1 ), and its analogues named eupatorester A-C ( 2 – 4 ) using various chromatographic techniques. Their structures were unambiguously confirmed by detailed spectroscopic investigations (including 1D, 2D-NMR and HRMS), and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The anti-inflammatory activities, in vitro tumor growth inhibitory activities and antibacterial activities of these compounds were evaluated.

Abstract:Crofton weed (Eupatorium adenophorum Spreng.) is an invasion in China and its spread speed rate has been faster than anticipated. Laboratory and greenhouse studies were employed to investigate the effect of heavy metal elements on several factors and the survivability mechanism of Crofton weed. Biochemical and ultrastructural methods revealed that this plant tolerated low concentrations of lead (Pb) or cadmium (Cd) individually or in combination as well, based on measurements of photosynthesis, the malondialdehyde and proline content, and the total electrolyte rate. After Pb, Cd or a mixture treatment, the total electrolyte rate, the malondialdehyde and proline content increased in Crofton weed, and leaves became darker than those of the control. Cellular ultrastructure observations showed that a cellular ultrastructure altered, including a thickened cell wall, chloroplast deformation, and damaged mitochondrial membrane. In addition, the activity of catalase, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase and the soluble protein content were affected after treatment with high concentrations of Pb, Cd or a combination. Taken together, these results suggest that Crofton weed has a high tolerance to Pb and Cd at low concentrations but becomes susceptible at high concentrations. These results may help control the environmental threat of Crofton weed or other invasive weed species.
GC-MS Analysis of Essential Oils of Eupatorium odoratum

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To analyze the constituents of essential oil extracted from the areal parts of Eupatorium odoratum L.,and establish foundation for reasonable utilization.METHODS The essential oils were extracted by CO2 supercritical fluid extraction(SFE-CO2) method,then separated and identified by GC-MS.Relative content of each component was determined by area normalization. RESULTS 69 components were identified from the essential oil,the identified compounds account for 57.57% of total oil;The main constituents were 9-Methyl-10-methylenetricyclo[4.2.1.1(2,5)]decan-9-ol(13.66%),Fumaric acid,ethyl 2-(2-methylenecyclopropyl)propyl ester(5.02%),4-(4-hydroxy-2,2,6-trimethyl-7-oxabicyclo hept-1-yl)-3-uten-2-one(3.24%),4-hydroxy-2-Pentanone,(3.16%).CONCLUSION 68 compounds are identified from the plant for the first time;Some compounds which have higher relative content in the essential oil,which couldn't be searched from the databank of Xcalibur.It seems there are new compounds,should be researched with chromatograph methods and spectrum analysis for the next step.

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Ethnopharmacological relevance</h3>Euphorbia fischeriana Steud. (Euphorbiaceae) is a perennial herb distributed in grassland, hill slopes or gravel hillside, with average altitude of 100-600 meters. The whole grass of E. fischeriana is toxic with roots used as folk medicine to treat Zhushui, dyspepsia, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, cough, as well as external applications such as cure of scabies and tuberculosis of lymph nodes.<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Aim of the review</h3>This systematic review aims to provide a detailed and in-depth summary about the reported advances in traditional uses, clinical applications, phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicity of E. fischeriana, so as to offer fresh ideas and broader vision and insights for subsequent studies.<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Materials and methods</h3>Various scientific data bases such as CNKI, Elsevier, Google Scholar, Pubmed, Science Direct, SciFinder Scholar and Web of Science were searched to collect information about E. fischeriana. Other relevant literatures were searched in 'Flora of China Editorial Committee', ancient books, Ph.D and Masters' Dissertation to get more data of E. fischeriana.<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3>A total of 241 chemical constituents have been identified from the roots of E. fischeriana, including diterpenoids, triterpenoids, meroterpenoids, acetophenones, flavonoids, coumarins, steroids, phenolic acids, tannins, etc. Various pharmacological activities have been demonstrated, especially anti-tumor, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral and anti-leukemia activities. Moreover, different investigations about clinical uses and toxicology of E. fischeriana indicated that attention should be paid to its usage and dosage.<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusion</h3>The researches of E. fischeriana are excellent, but gap still remains. As a poisonous traditional Chinese medicine, there are not enough studies on the toxicity of E. fischeriana. In addition, scholars' research on the pharmacological mechanism of E. fischeriana focuses more on the anti-tumor activity, which can be broadened in the future. Presumably, chemical constituents and biological activities of diterpenoids and trace meroterpenoids in E. fischeriana deserve further research in-depth in the future, in order to provide low toxicity and high efficiency lead compounds. Abstract:Erysiphe pisi is the main disease of Astragalus adsurgens. At high temperature and in humid season the disease occurred seriously. The disease can be controlled by spraying Triadimefon in early time when the disease accured and the control effect was 74.9%.

Abstract:Euphorbia ebracteolata Hayata, as a traditional medicine, is widely distributed in China, Korea and Japan. In China, the dried root of this plant is named 'langdu'. It is traditionally used to treat oedema, skin ulcers, abdominal distension, cough, asthma, tuberculosis swelling and other diseases. Previous studies have found that the chemical constituents of E. ebracteolata are mainly concentrated in terpenoids, acetophenones, and flavonoids. Both extracts and pure compounds from E. ebracteolata were found to possess many pharmacological activities, such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antimicrobial effects. In addition, it was reported that E. ebracteolata shows toxicity. To provide inspiration for further in-depth studies on this plant, this review will provide a timely and systematic summary of E. ebracteolata in traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacology toxicology, and quality control.

Abstract:Ethnopharmacological relevance: Euphorbia semen, the dried and ripe seed of Euphorbia lathyris Linnaeus, is widely cultivated for traditional medicine use. This semen is used to expel water, help with phlegm retention, promote blood circulation, remove blood stasis, cure tinea and scabies, and treat amenorrhea, snakebites, terminal schistosomiasis, anuria and constipation. Aim of the review: This review provides updated, comprehensive and categorized information on the local and traditional uses, phytochemistry, pharmacokinetics, pharmacological activities and toxicity of Euphorbia semen. Future research to deepen the recognition and utilization of Euphorbia semen is proposed. Materials and methods: This article conducted a literature review on information about Euphorbia semen in multiple Internet databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Wiley, Science Direct, Elsevier, ACS publications, SciFinder, Google Scholar and China National Knowledge Internet, until March of 2018. In this manuscript, a number of books, PhD and MSc dissertations, and Chinese Pharmacopeia were also used as references. Results: Approximately 240 chemical constituents have been isolated and identified from Euphorbia semen, namely, diterpenoids, coumarins, flavonoids, fatty acids, amino acids, and steroids. Pharmacokinetic study focused on investigating absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME). The chemical constituents have extensive pharmacological effects, such as diuresis and anti-hyperuricaemia, anti-inflammation, antiviral, anticancer, antioxidant, antipigmentation, anti-platelet aggregation and anti-allergic activities, as well as hepatoprotection and neuroprotection. The toxicity of Euphorbia semen, including acute toxicity, target organ irritation and cocareinogenic effects, have been reported, and the detoxification methods are reviewed. Conclusion: Euphorbia semen has extensive pharmacological activity and excellent clinical value, along with intense intestinal irritation. Although plenty of chemical constituents have been isolated and identified, the exact pharmacological and toxicological mechanisms still need to be explored.
Effects of aphid herbivory on volatile organic compounds of Artemisia annua and Chrysanthemum morifolium

Abstract:We showed the effect of aphid infesting on the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by the infested Artemisia annua and Chrysanthemum morifolium cultivar ‘Nan nong hong feng’ plants by using headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) method combined with gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC–MS). In olfactometer bioassay experiment, aphids showed a preference for the odour of both healthy and infested chrysanthemum, while we found an opposite result in A. annua. Aphids tend to healthy plants compared with the infested, and the phenomenon became obvious with time. Different extracts were tested with the healthy plants and aphid infested plants. Eucalyptol, β-caryophyllene, (E)-β-farnesene, and germacrene D were released as the major constituents in both species. After aphid infesting, we observed a great increase in artemisia ketone and (E)-β-farnesene and a decrease in germacrene D in A. annua; comparatively, eucalyptol, isoborneol and β-caryophyllene increased in chrysanthemum. Combined with the GC–MS data and olfactometer bioassay results we concluded that (E)-β-farnesene and artemisia ketone emitted from A. annua might act as a potential volatile compound to resist aphids, and the two compounds would be useful for future ecological control of aphid in chrysanthemum cultivation.

Abstract:Due to the imperfect extraction process of 4,7-dimethyl-1-(propan-2-ylidene)- 1,4,4a,8a-tetrahydronaphthalene2,6(1 H,7 H)-dione (DTD) and the nonconstruction of delivery systems, their practical application in the field of botanical pesticides is limited. To overcome these problems, ultrasound-assisted extraction technology was optimized using Box-Behnken design (BBD). The optimal ultrasound extraction conditions of DTD were as follows: time (39 min), solid to liquid ratio (1:31), and temperature (68 celcius). The extraction yield was 0.4528 & PLUSMN; 0.0182 %. Nanoemulsions (NEs) loaded with DTD were prepared and characterized, and the optimal formulation of DTD NEs was determined as follows: 1 wt% DTD, 1.5 wt% S-200, 1 wt% TW-80, and 96.5 wt% deionized water. The NEs prepared by the optimal formula had small contact angles and tension levels, indicating that they had good wetting properties. The larvicidal activity of DTD NEs is similar to that of azadirachtin EC. In the biosafety assessment, the DTD NE treatment group had low levels of cell apoptosis, the toxicity of the DTD NEs to earthworms was low, and the DTD NEs had no adverse effect on maize growth. Therefore, DTD NEs offer a high degree of biosafety. DTD NEs have the potential to serve as a safe, green alternative pesticide for IPM projects to control important agricultural pests.
