Abstract:The performance of 3D CAD software is usually evaluated based on a lot of test data. However, the complex uncertainties intrinsic in the test data has not been investigated so far, the influence of which on the reliability of performance evaluation result has not been considered either. To address the problem, this paper analyses the complex uncertainties in test data and proposes a visualized evaluating method for the performance of 3D CAD software based on the characterization of test data by cloud model. First, the initial weight of each performance index is determined by analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the test data are standardized. Then the standardized test data are input into the backward cloud generator to calculate the digital characteristics of the cloud model for each performance index, based on which the reliability of each performance index is calculated and the corresponding weight is adjusted accordingly. Finally, the overall performance of 3D CAD software is scored by AHP and the reliability of the evaluation result is also rated. An analytic hierarchy diagram is produced for illustrating the whole evaluating process and the cloud map of the overall performance is generated by the forward cloud generator to provide the intuitive and reliable evaluation process and result for users.

Abstract:With the support of edge computing, the synergy and collaboration among central cloud, edge cloud, and terminal devices form an integrated computing ecosystem known as the cloud-edge-client architecture. This integration unlocks the value of data and computational power, presenting significant opportunities for large-scale 3D scene modeling and XR presentation. In this paper, we explore the perspectives and highlight new challenges in 3D scene modeling and XR presentation based on point cloud within the cloud-edge-client integrated architecture. We also propose a novel cloud-edge-client integrated technology framework and a demonstration of municipal governance application to address these challenges.

Abstract:Based on multi-layer state space model, the paper proposes a five-layer energy information hierarchical model, and presents a rank normal cloud conversion model to complete the transforming between energy grade and value. To meet the demands of the research, the rank conversion cloud includes two parts, the single energy rank conversion cloud and the integrated energy rank conversion cloud. Finally, the experiment shows that the model can better solve uncertainty problems of the fuzziness brought by grading and randomness along with investigation, and its practicality is better.

Abstract:Abstract Clouds play an important role in enhancing the realism of outdoor scenes in computer graphics (CG). Realistic cloud generation is a challenging task, which entails processes such as modeling, photorealistic rendering and simulation of the clouds. To these ends, several techniques have been proposed within the CG community in the last 4 decades with one or more of the above stated focuses. The growth of modern hardware has also enabled development of techniques that can achieve cloud display and animation at interactive frame rates. In this survey, we review the prominent work in the domain and also summarize the evolution of the research over the time.

Parametric modeling and real-time rendering of sandstorm scenes

Abstract:Sandstorm is a catastrophic natural phenomenon. To quantitative modeling and realistic rendering of sandstorm are of great significance in environment protection, disaster rescue, urban traffic and special effects synthesis in films & TV, etc. This paper presents a parametric modeling method of sandstorm based meteorology. In particular, by analyzing the correlation between the up-flow and temperature field, we provide a simplified model to simulate the process of sand raising and flow. Different sandstorm under various circumstances can be simulated by specifying their corresponding parameters such as air pressure, temperature, dust density, the type of surroundings, etc, To real-time render the sandstorm scene, we adopt the half-angle slice based volume rendering method, which greatly reduces the computation cost. Our simulation results of different degree sandstorms in deserts and cities demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach. Finally, we employ the meteorological computing model to evaluate the air visibility of the synthesized sandstorm scenes.

Abstract:To improve the efficiency of reverse modeling, an automatic segmentation algorithm based on geometric attribute analysis is proposed. The algorithm subdivides point cloud into cubic grids and then maps the geometric attribute value of points in each grid to normal curvature coordinate system and Gaussian sphere. By testing hypothesis, the patterns of the normal curvature image and the Gaussian image are recognized. Based on the grid structure, the image points clustering, and the goodness-of-fit testing, point cloud is segmented into several regions and characterized as natural quadrics, extruded surfaces and ruled surfaces, respectively. Applications show that the proposed algorithm deals with large amount of measured points stably and effectively. It can be applied to many other fields including visual reality and computer vision, etc.

Abstract:A method is presented that produces a realistic simulation of terrain using source data from the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA). Spatially compact objects are presently modeled with some success at realism. Because terrain is large in extent it exhibits special problems. These problems include: data base size and generation, masking priority, and shading. An array of height values can be created from the DMA terrain file. Height is a single valued function of the array coordinate pair. The pair has implicit positional information. A masking priority algorithm is used which has no restriction on observer geometry. The algorithm searches the height array along the line of sight for the first visible position in the array. This approach requires no clipping or depth sorting of surface representations. The height array indices are used to access the pixel shade from a registered, orthonormal texture array. The use of texture provides a simple way to add nonlinear shading for a realistic representation with flexible data base generation. Atmospheric attenuation is a method used to increase realism. Methods are in use which produce haze or fog with constant attenuation. The line-of-sight search is used to produce realistic clouds with spatially variable attenuation. Terrain and clouds are adequately simulated using this method of modeling. The data structures of height and texture arrays are simple, easily generated, and make good use of storage resources. Resolving masking priority along the line of sight is a visible surface algorithm which has advantages over hidden surface algorithms. Realistic representations such as texture and atmospheric attenuation are used with some success.

Abstract:Cloud simulation is important for creating images of outdoor scenes. However, the complexity of this natural phenomenon makes the simulation of large-scale clouds difficult in real time. In this paper, we present a new method for 3D cloud simulation in which cloud animation is simplified and simulated by approximating Lennard-Jones Potential. To solve the N-body problem in Lennard-Jones Potential, we minimized the interaction between particles by dividing the simulation space into many cells and we defined a cutoff distance to perform calculation between neighboring particles. Additionally, a separate distance is introduced between particles to maintain the stability in the Lennard-Jones system. Our experimental results demonstrate that our method is computationally inexpensive and suitable for real time applications where large-scale simulation of clouds is required.

Abstract:Cloud removal is an essential task in remote sensing data analysis. As the image sensors are distant from the earth ground, it is likely that part of the area of interests is covered by cloud. Moreover, the atmosphere in between creates a constant haze layer upon the acquired images. To recover the ground image, we propose to use scattering model for temporal sequence of images of any scene in the framework of low rank and sparse models. We further develop its variant, which is much faster and yet more accurate. To measure the performance of different methods {\em objectively}, we develop a semi-realistic simulation method to produce cloud cover so that various methods can be quantitatively analysed, which enables detailed study of many aspects of cloud removal algorithms, including verifying the effectiveness of proposed models in comparison with the state-of-the-arts, including deep learning models, and addressing the long standing problem of the determination of regularisation parameters. The latter is companioned with theoretic analysis on the range of the sparsity regularisation parameter and verified numerically.

Abstract:Different kinds of atmospheric media and variation of weather conditions make the generation of multi-spectral out-door scene image quite complex. In this paper, we propose a new approach to realistically generate the multi-spectral scene images under different weather conditions. We first establish the geometrical models of several special weather phenomena. The method of three-dimension cellular automata is adopted to construct the cloud, and particle system is used to model the rain. After that we calculate the radiance of different wavebands for cloud, fog, rain under different weather conditions. The radiance components, such as self-emitted radiance, reflected radiation, transmitted radiance, are calculated separately and the total radiance is thus acquired. Then, based on the spectral radiance values of cloud, rain and fog calculated by above models, we construct the scene under different weather conditions. Finally multi-spectral scene images under different weather conditions are rendered realistically. Simulation results show the potential of our approach.

Abstract:Clouds are integral part in 3D-GIS visualization, without them 3D scene seem unrealistic. The paper presents a technical framework to simulate clouds from macroscopic to microcosmic scale in Global 3D-GIS. In the case of the macroscopic scale, which means the viewpoint is far away from the 3D scene in 3D-GIS, cloud was expressed with semi-transparent planar texture. In other case, we consider the cloud as a collection of particles collecting light from the sun, and the 3D-cloud is indexed with octree and modeled with particle system. The scattering light model and billboard technique are used to render it. Meanwhile, this article proposed a cloud visualization scheduling algorithm based on viewpoint position, aiming at the smooth switching between the 2D and 3D cloud. The technical framework supports numerous clouds to be rendered at high stable frame rates, and has been embedded into ChinaStar, a global 3D-GIS platform manufactured by the authors.

Abstract:This paper presents a computer-aided cloud-analysis approach by effectively modeling the integration of heterogeneous satellite-observed data and remote sensing images. First, automatic cloud detection and tracking methods are proposed to identify the georeferenced cloud objects in satellite remote sensing images. Then, a data integration modeling mechanism is designed to collect meaningful properties of those detected clouds by integrating the heterogeneous satellite-observed data and imaging into a unified cloud database. Finally, based on the integrated global data schema, a two-phase data mining method employing the decision tree algorithm is implemented to analyze and forecast the meteorological activities of all the cloud objects. Experimental results have shown that the proposed data integration model can effectively extract and synthesize all the useful information from heterogeneous data sources to generate a unified view of knowledge, on the basis of which the evolvement trends of clouds can be analyzed properly.

Abstract:Using the EOS/MODIS muti-pectral data of visible, near infrared and medium infrared wavelength, cloud microphysical characteristics are monitored and discriminated; and the quantitative retrieval theories and algorithms of cloud parameters are analyzed, especially cloud detection and classification, cloud top height, cloud top temperature, cloud optical thickness and cloud effective particle radius. Abstract:A one-dimensional cumulus cloud chemistry model（1CCCM）is developed to simulate cloudphysical processes and chemical processes during the evolution of a convective cloud.The cloudphysical submodel includes a detailed microphysical parameterized scheme of 20 processes.Thechemistry submodel is composed of three parts:gas phase chemistry,aqueous phase chemistry andscavenging of soluble gases.The gas phase reaction mechanism contains 85 reactions among 45species including 13 organics.The aqueous phase reaction mechanism contains 54 reactions among40 species and 12 ion equilibria.Mass of 19 gases is transported between the gas phase and theaqueous phase.With this model,studies may be made to analyze the interactions among processesduring lifetime of a cumulus cloud.

Abstract:Accurately modeling the evolution of debris clouds from satellite breakups is necessary for assessing the collision risk to space assets. Generally, the evolution of debris clouds can be divided into short-, medium-, and long-term phases. Compared to the short- and long-term phases, the study on the medium-term phase was insufficient. This paper proposes a probabilistic method to model the medium-term evolution of a debris cloud. First, a satellite breakup event can be characterized by a probabilistic density distribution of the initial velocity vectors of all fragments. Then, the distribution in the initial velocity can be transformed to that in three classic orbital elements, i.e., semimajor axis, eccentricity, and inclination. Given that the driving force of medium-term evolution is the [Formula: see text] perturbation and that [Formula: see text] has no secular contribution to these three classic orbital elements, the distribution of classic orbital elements remains stationary during the evolution. This feature can be exploited to express the probabilistic density distribution of any given target position in terms of the density distribution of the classic orbital elements by changing variables. Finally, 16 one-variable equations with analytical first derivatives were formulated to find the proper inverse mapping from the given position to the classic orbital elements, and the Jacobian matrix of the inverse mapping was derived. Medium-term debris clouds resulting from two typical breakup velocity distributions were tested using the proposed method. Results show that the proposed method can accurately simulate the evolution of the clouds’ geometrical extent and density flow.

Abstract:With the increasing demand for the application of future simulation technology and virtual reality, the virtual environment modeling techniques will become increasingly important. Three dimensional terrain is one of important factors of the natural scenes in virtual environment and it is also a significant composition of view system in virtual simulation field. Firstly, this paper describes the research content and research objectives of the large-scale terrain modeling. Secondly, it systematically analyses research methods and techniques of terrain modeling simplification algorithms in recent years, including static and dynamic simplification algorithm, and compares the advantages and disadvantages of each method. Finally, future research directions are discussed.

Abstract:With the growth in the number of Cloud Service Providers, many enterprises and organizations are now able to use multiple cloud platforms in order to achieve improved overall Quality-of-Service (QoS), reliability and cost efficiency. However, due to the diversity in architecture and functionalities among different cloud platforms, it is difficult to build a system that simultaneously manages multiple clouds, i.e., A cloud-of-clouds. This paper presents a model-defined approach to the development of a cloud-of-clouds management (abbreviated as CCMan) system. The runtime model of a CCMan system that meets custom management requirements is constructed through model construction, model merging and model transformation. Each step of the approach is presented in detail in terms of an example. Evaluation of the approach from several perspectives shows that the efforts needed to both develop the CCMan system and operate its services are significantly reduced with negligible performance loss.

Abstract:Cloud storage system can reshape the way how kinds of contents are generated, stored and distributed on today's Internet. It is intriguing to study the service provision of cloud storage system for the sake of providing global users with satisfactory service. This paper conducts modeling analysis of a cloud storage system, and proposes a Markov decision process modeling framework to analyze the reliability of the storage system. Based on the modeling analysis, the optimal strategy can be got after executing two solution algorithms. By incorporating these techniques into cloud storage system design, the authors can significantly improve the replication performance and reliability of the system in this paper. Our numerical results further demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of our technique against traditional static approaches.
