Abstract:Palladium complexes of chiral aminophosphine phosphinites were investigated for the asymmetric allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenyl-2-propenyl acetate with dimethyl malonate. The chirality of the carbon bonded to O-PPh2 in the ligands was found to be very important to the enantioselectivity of the catalysts. Introduction of this stereogenic center has led to significantly improved enantioselectivities.

Abstract:Pyrazolones are a vital class of heterocycles possessing various biological properties and much attention is paid to the diversified synthesis of enantiopure pyrazolone derivatives. We describe here the development of diphenylphosphinoalkanoic acid based chiral bisphosphine ligands, which are successfully applied to the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allenylation of racemic pyrazol-5-ones. The reaction affords C-allenylation products, optically active pyrazol-5-ones bearing an allene unit, in high chemo- and enantioselectivity, with DACH-ZYC-Phos-C1 as the best ligand. The synthetic potential of the C-allenylation products is demonstrated. Furthermore, the enantioselectivity observed with DACH-ZYC-Phos-C1 is rationalized by density functional theory studies.

Abstract:A series of novel chiral phosphine–imine ligands have been prepared by a two-step transformation from chiral α-phenylethylamine. The resulting chiral ligands were found to be effective for the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenylprop-2-en-1-yl pivalate with dimethyl malonate, in which up to 94% ee and 99% conversions were obtained. The results demonstrate that the chirality resided on the chelate ring of P–Pd–N complex is more effective for the transfer of the stereochemical information by comparison with the result obtained by Hashimoto and coworkers’ phosphine–imine ligand, in which the chirality lay in the outside of P–Pd–N chelate ring. The effect of solvent, base and substitutent in phosphine–imine ligand on this catalytic reaction is also described.

Abstract:Chiral ferrocene-derived phosphine-thioether mixed donor ligands supported by heterocycles effected the palladium-catalyzed enantioselective allylic alkylations with excellent yields and enantioselectivities (up to 96% ee). With cyclic and unsymmetrical allylic acetates as substrate, the corresponding alkylated products with enantioselectivities up to 87% ee were obtained. Based on X-ray crystallographic and NMR studies, the origin of the observed enantioselectivities is discussed.

Abstract:A novel chiral monodentate spiro phenylphospholane ligand 4 was prepared from a readily accessible, enantiomerically pure 1,1 '-spirobiindane-7,7 '-diol in high yield. This ligand has proven to be efficient for Pd-catalyzed enantioselective allylation of aldehydes with allylic alcohols. Aromatic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic aldehydes gave homoallylic alcohols in good enantioselectivities (up to 83% ee) and excellent anti diastereoselectivities (up to 99:1 dr).

Abstract:Novel C2-symmetric diphosphine ligands possessing only the planar chirality of ferrocene, 1,1‘-bis(diphenylphosphino)-2,2‘-disubstituted-ferrocenes, were prepared from 1,1‘-bis(diphenylphosphino)-2,2‘-bis(oxazolinyl)ferrocene by the transformation of the oxazoline moieties in the molecule. Upon complexation with palladium(II), ligands of this kind were ascertained to form only one of the two possible diastereomeric 1:1 P,P-chelating palladium complexes by 1H NMR spectroscopy using NOE. These ligands afforded excellent enantioselectivity for the palladium-catalyzed allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenylprop-2-en-1-yl acetate with dimethyl malonate. The substituents at the 2,2‘-positions of the Cp rings of the ligands had considerable effect on the catalytic activity but minor effect on the enantioselectivity.
