Abstract:An unusually strong affinity of unsupported nanoporous gold (AuNPore) towards aldimines and ketimines has been demonstrated. By using PhMe2SiH and water as a hydrogen source and AuNPore as a catalyst, ketimines and aldimines can be reduced to the corresponding amines in high chemical yields under mild conditions. This system was also applied to the reductive amination of aldehydes and ketones.

Abstract:Magnetic nano-Fe3O4-supported organocatalysts were synthesized by anchoring valine-derived formamide onto the surface of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles, which were applied in the asymmetric reduction of imines with trichlorosilane at room temperature in toluene. The high level of yield and enantioselectivity catalyzed by magnetic nano-Fe3O4-supported organocatalysts was obtained. In the immobilization process, CuI-catalyzed azide-alkyne 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition (CuAAC) “click chemistry” was used as the anchored bridge. The magnetic nanoparticles can simplify the recovery of the organocatalyst and its separation from the reaction system. By an external magnet, the catalyst can be recycled and reused five times without a remarkable activity decline.

Abstract:The remarkable effect of an unsupported nanoporous gold catalyst (AuNPore) on chemoselective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes using silane has been described. Enals can be reduced with excellent selectivity, giving the corresponding allylic alcohols in good to high chemical yields.

Abstract:The backbone of D-glucosamine hydrochloride was fine-tuned and modified by protecting the hydroxyl groups. In order to reduce imines with trichlorosilane, the carbohydrate-derived organocatalysts were prepared and screened. Methyl-4,6-O-benzylidene-2-amino-2-deoxy-α-D-glucopyr anoside was found as the best catalyst. The reduction was proceeded under CHCl3 as solvent at 40?C, affording 68% - 94% yield.

Abstract:Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic aldehydes with active methylene compounds such as malononitrile, ethylcyanoacetate, benzimidazol-2-acetonitrile and benzothiazole-2-acetonitrile proceeded very smoothly, catalyzed by nano-Fe3O4 encapsulated-silica particles supported primary amine. Both reaction time and yield are satisfying. The advantages of this catalyst are ease of preparation, non-toxicity, low cost, ease of handling and recyclability.

Abstract:Catalytic synthesis of imines from one-pot cascade hydrogen reductive imination of nitroarenes with aldehydes represents a facile, green and valuable process; however, such an economical process suffers from the poor chemoselectivity due to competitive hydrogenation of aldehydes and over-hydrogenation of imines into N-alkylated amines. Herein, bimetallic PtCo nanoparticles anchored on cobalt borate nanosheets (PtCo/CoBOx) can facilitate the unparalleled activity and selectivity towards imines through the same imination. The high chemoselectivity of imines is resulted from the competitive adsorption of reactants and products on PtCo/CoBOx, including (1) weakened adsorption of imines and its uncompetitive adsorption with aromatic amines (from nitroarenes) on bimetallic PtCo to minimize its over-hydrogenation; (2) competitive adsorption of nitroarenes on PtCo and preferential adsorption of aldehydes/nitroarenes on hydroxyl-enriched CoBOx through hydrogen bond formation to suppress hydrogenation of both aldehydes and imines; and (3) kinetically and competitively preferred reduction of nitroarenes over aldehydes to avoid hydrogenation of aldehydes. Abstract:A selective reduction method of an electronically deficient imine in the presence of ketone was developed by employing Et2Zn and 5 mol % of Ni(acac)(2). The method was applied in the reduction of S-S-tert-butanesultinyl ketimines 1 to afford amines 2 in 23-92% yields and 73:27 to 98:2 diastereoselectivities. A plausible mechanism was proposed on the basis of an NMR study.

Abstract:An efficient and highly selective phosphine-free NN-manganese(I) complex catalyst system was developed for the acceptorless dehydrogenative coupling of alcohols with amines to form imines. The coupling reactions underwent at 3 mol % catalyst loading, and a large range of alcohols and amines with diverse functional groups was applied, including challenging diol and diamine. The target imine products were obtained in good to excellent yields. The present work provides an alternative method to construct highly active nonprecious metal complex catalysts based on phosphine-free ligands.
