Abstract:With the development of E-learning technology, web-based virtual laboratory has aroused more and more attention of educators. In this paper, we describe the design of a web-based electronic circuit virtual laboratory system for digital circuit This system provides the user with real expression, convenient operation and powerful simulation capability. Furthermore, we designed segment-simulation mechanism and circuit status persistence mechanism to realize the simulation process in digital circuit. At the moment, ECVlab (Electronic Circuit Virtual Laboratory) has been implemented and successfully applied in an undergraduate course in Zhejiang University and has gained positive evaluation from the undergraduate students.

Abstract:This study uses a physical programming course to explore the development of children’s multiple intelligences. The process includes the design of teaching objectives, course design, course implementation and evaluation of effectiveness. A graphic multiple intelligences test scale was designed to measure children’s multiple intelligences. The study was conducted as a controlled experiment and the implementation of the courses showed that the physical programming coursess had a significant effect on the development of children’s natural observation, visual-spatial and mathematical-logical intelligences compared to the traditional courses.

Abstract:In recent years, computer technology has developed rapidly especially the reconfigurable computing devices and related technology. This makes the related computer courses are confronted with an enormous challenge. With great importance attached to cultivating students' system ability, this paper makes teaching researches using EDA technologies through application of both software and hardware then apply them to the actual teaching practice. The courses are organized as the course group which can be extended through adding related courses for aimed major. And at the same time we have established a systematic and progressive experiment system. Consequently, students can deepen their understanding of the computer system, improve their ability to address practical problems and thus develop their over-all ability.

Abstract:There is a consensus on integrating computing with STEM teaching in K-12. However, very little is known about the integration. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for integrating science and computational thinking teaching using Logic Programming. We then develop and implement two 8-session integration modules on chemistry and physics for 6th and 7th graders. Pre- and post- tests, class observations and interviews show the feasibility of the framework in terms of 1) development and implementation of the modules, and 2) the students' learning outcomes on science content and Computational Thinking, and their acceptance of the integration.

Abstract:In the information age, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), micro-classes, flipping classroom, and other blended teaching scenes have improved students learning outcomes. However, incorporating technologies into experimental courses, especially electronic and electrical experiments, has its own characteristics and difficulties. The focus of this paper is to introduce virtual technology into an electronic circuit experiment course and to explore its teaching strategy, thereby realizing the informatization of experiment teaching. First, this paper explores the design concepts and implementation details of the digital circuit virtual laboratory, which is then developed based on previous literature and a prequestionnaire to users. Second, the informatization process of the experiment learning model based on traditional custom lab benches is shown through a blended learning scheme that integrates the online virtual laboratory. Finally, the experiment information system is verified and analyzed with a control group experiment and questionnaires. The blended program turned out to be an effective teaching model to complement the deficiencies in existing physical laboratories. The research conclusions show that the virtual experiment system provides students with a rich, efficient, and expansive experimental experience, in particular, the flexibility, repeatability, and visual appeal of a virtual platform could promote the development of students’ abilities in active learning, reflective thinking, and creativity.

Abstract:Today’s digital world requires students to gain skills in collaborative problem solving and digital literacy. One approach is to teach people how to design computational artefacts that require both electronics and programming. Physical computing platforms offer an endless amount of possible opportunities for people to design and develop technological artefacts. However, many times students are overwhelmed when trying to learn both software and hardware simultaneously. The students struggle to be innovative and creative in their projects. Also, they focus on mastering the tool and following instructions for existing projects rather than being able to creatively explore the tool and understand the process of designing and developing new artefacts. For that reason, we aimed to answer the question: What type of tools and activities can be developed to support university students creative exploration of physical computing? Programming and electronics are fundamental design disciplines in today's digital world, and therefore they should be taught through design activities rather than limiting education to textbook readings and laboratory exercises. We introduce our process of designing activities combined with a supportive tool to ease these challenges. The activities and tools were developed iteratively in three phases with a series of workshops with 126 students and teachers. The tool consists of a set of paper cards that provide necessary details (hints) about the electronics and software and help provide structure for the students to conceptualise how their artefact interacts. We additionally, introduced a learning Jigsaw pattern (orchestration script) for the later intervention that enabled individual students in the groups to focus on design, hardware, or software. For evaluation, we used the Creativity Support Index (CSI), which is a psychometric survey designed to assess the support of the creative process. The instrument investigates collaboration, efforts worth the result, exploration, immersion, enjoyment, and expressiveness. The results between the phases showed improvement with the use of the refined versions of the cards and orchestration of the learning activity. This study has demonstrated that design activities can provide a more accessible approach for the introduction of physical computing to students from various majors. Moreover, learning physical computing through design activities allows the learner to develop computational and design thinking skills for collaboratively solving problems.

Abstract:An efficient and effective management is mandatory for the success of every organization, especially educational institutes. Following the course curriculum and completing it in time are beneficial for the students and the colleges’ reputation in educational institutes. In this paper, intelligent management of physical education curriculum is designed using a Web-based teaching assistant system. The multilayer designed system provides convenience for teachers and students of health and physical education. The data layer collects input data from users and transmits it to the storage layer after being compiled by the decoder. The layer uses memory to save the transmitted data and integrate the saved data into the expansion chip and transmit it to the transmission layer. The Web server at this layer outputs the transmitted data in the form of an HTML structure file through a CGI program and feeds back the output to the browser of the application layer. The man-machine interaction interface of the application layer uses a large-scale hierarchical information visualization method to show data on the browser to users. The experimental results show that the system has comprehensive functions, fast processing speed, and low energy consumption. It has a good page display effect, which is in line with the user’s visual cognition; the recall rate of curriculum scheduling data and curriculum selection data is always higher than 96%, and the data analysis ability is excellent.

Abstract:Continuous developments in the electronics industry have led to constantly changing career roles and graduate skills requirements. Students in the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) have complained that numerous courses in electronic engineering are heavily focused on theoretical knowledge that is disconnected from the needs of the industry. Thus, in an effort toward delivering student-centered educational programmes that meet the needs of the industry, this article introduces an innovative course that was developed using the project-based learning (PBL) method and situated in the electronic engineering undergraduate programme at UESTC. Since real-world engineering projects require teams to collaborate on ill-defined problems, we focused this innovative course on developing professional and technical skills, drawing from a range of more typical electronic engineering courses. We provide full details of two projects that were created for this PBL approach and evaluate them as practice examples that demonstrate the impact of this practical pedagogic innovation in UESTC. According to our evaluation, completed by all 40 of our enrolled students, our innovative course based on interdisciplinary PBL exercises demonstrated a significant improvement in student satisfaction and 65% of students preferred the interdisciplinary PBL course in comparison to traditional lecture-based courses.

Abstract:A cyber-physical system (CPS) is a system featuring a tight combination of, and coordination between the system's computational and physical elements. Although much research has addressed modeling and simulation of such systems, most solutions usually do not cover all requirements from different domains. Rather, these solutions restrict the development environment and reduce its flexibility by enforcing the use of a specific software platform and tightly-coupled tools. This paper presents problems and challenges of CPS and discusses a MDA based Modeling & Simulation framework, which has a loosely coupled architecture, to enable design, modeling & simulation of large-scale, heterogeneous CPS systems in an integrated manner. Meta-model based Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is realized for dynamic reuse of simulation model across platforms in this paper at first. Then the paper introduces an Extended HLA architecture based on multi-layers and multi-federation and its implementation, which is realized based on Resource Management Federate (RMF) technique. Finally, Federate Integration Architecture (FIA) and its Federate Executive Infrastructure (FEI) are described, which are realized based on Web service and OGSI.

The instructional system includes online course learning, question answering and discussion, course homework, and online testing. Abstract:Control engineering has a cross-boundary nature because its applications span over a wide range of fields, among which science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Creating an automation literacy from the Primary School's age is beneficial for pupils because it supports the development of valuable skills that allow the comprehension and analysis of real-world phenomena. Even if many researchers and policymakers have advocated for engineering education since early education, it is usually kept for undergraduate and graduate-level education. What prevents systems theory and control education from being integrated into K12 education is the lack of available educational resources and the lack of indicators to represent the learning gain of students. To help teachers in the latter aspect, a solution can be studying the entire process as a cyber-physical human system (CPHS). The paper consists of a brief report about the work carried out by authors to represent the entire classroom as a CPHS where the physical robots designed by students, humans (teachers and learners), and cybertechnologies are interconnected to accomplish a goal which is learning. The entire infrastructure could be seamlessly deployed into the classroom, supporting learning assessment and the feedback process starting from the deployment of a (quasi) real-time intelligent collection system.

Abstract:Mechatronic systems are the synergetic integration of software and physical parts whose characteristics are quite different. The synergistic design of these two parts is one of the main challenges of the system design of mechatronic systems. Although with divergent characteristics, these two parts are possible to be unified on the functional level. Motivated by this observation, a formal functional representation is proposed by extending the flow-based functional representation. On this basis, a system design methodology is proposed, according to which the software and physical parts can be designed separately by applying specific design methods and interactions between the two design processes can be enabled to help designers to identify design defects and constraints in early design. Following this methodology, the traditional reference architecture of mechatronic systems is refactored so that software and physical parts can be correlated in fine granularity. A mobile robot is illustrated to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:Integrating physical education and health curriculum has become a prevalent trend, aiming to promote students overall well-being. This research investigates the interdisciplinary cooperative teaching practices of physical education teachers in this integrated curriculum context, exploring the application of health assessment tools and methods and the formulation of individualized exercise plans. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study combines qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis techniques involving physical education teachers, health professionals, and students from selected schools. The findings reveal the current status of curriculum integration, highlighting challenges and opportunities, and delve into the utilization of health assessment tools for physical fitness, physiological health, and psychological well-being evaluations. Case studies and best practices elucidate the process of developing individualized exercise plans based on these comprehensive health assessments. The research proposes strategies for effective interdisciplinary cooperative teaching, offers recommendations for the appropriate selection and application of health assessment tools and personalized exercise plans, and discusses limitations and future research directions. This study contributes to the growing knowledge of curriculum integration and interdisciplinary collaboration in physical and health education, informing educational policymakers, curriculum designers, and practitioners in promoting holistic student development. Abstract:The virtual engineering education methods employed at the Institute for Information Management in Engineering are investigated and discussed. The focus is spotlighted on integrating product lifecycle management, computer‐aided design, eXtended reality, and artificial intelligence, creating a hands‐on, interconnected curriculum. Engineering education at the Institute for Information Management in Engineering integrates product lifecycle management (PLM), computer‐aided design (CAD), eXtended reality (XR), and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance learning and prepare students for modern challenges. Our interdisciplinary approach, emphasizing digital twins and virtual twins, fosters immersive, hands‐on experiences. This paper reviews our strategies, comparing them with global initiatives, highlighting the transformative impact of our curriculum on preparing future engineers for complex industrial environments.
