A Lean Strategy Solving the Problem of Multi-machine Production Scheduling and Material Handling in an Iron and Steel Enterprise

Abstract:This paper studies the multi-machine continual production process in a steel processing enterprise and proposes a lean solution to handle problems of large inventory and surplus resources.Specifically,we improve the production schedule,material handling and operational standard by the lean tools to make sure what to product,when and how many to handle in order to reduce the level of the WIP inventory and the inventory turnover time.A Justin-time production site needs the standard operation and the visual management.The improving strategy decreases the level of the WIP inventory by 33%,and the number of the deterioration material is reduced to zero.
