Abstract:Polystyrene supported TiCl4 (Ps-TiCl4) and polystyrene supported FeCl3 (Ps-FeCl3) were prepared by coordinating Lewis acids with polystyrene. The catalysts were characterized by TGA, BET, SEM, IR and pyridine-adsorbed IR. The loading of Ps-TiCl4 and Ps-FeCl3 were 0.35 and 0.3 mmol center dot g-1 respectively. Both catalysts were found to be efficient for the tetrahydropyranylation and detetrahydropyranylation of various alcohols and phenols in different solvents. Two catalysts can be recovered and reused for five times with good activity.

Abstract:An N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) polymer supported silver nanoparticle catalyst system was developed. The novel nano-composite catalyst demonstrated very high activity and excellent stability and reusability in the carboxylation of terminal alkynes with carbon dioxide at ambient conditions. The unique N-heterocyclic carbene polymer and silver nanoparticle composite structure provided a synergistic effect on activation of terminal alkynes and carbon dioxide that contributed to the high catalytic activity. The poly-NHC-silver catalyst exhibited excellent substrate generality and tolerance to various functionalities. In addition, the catalyst is stable to air and moisture and can be easily recovered and reused.

Abstract:The electroreduction of carbon dioxide to hydrocarbons has been proposed as a promising way to utilize CO2 and maintain the ecosystem carbon balance. However, the selective reduction of CO2 to C-2 hydrocarbons is still challenging. In this study, a highly efficient heterostructured catalyst has been developed, composed of a carbon nitride (CN)-encapsulated copper oxide hybrid (CuxO/CN). The interaction between the metal and carbon nitride in the heterostructured catalysts improves the intrinsic electrical conductivity and the charge transfer processes at metal-support interfaces. A remarkable enhancement in the selectivity of hydrocarbons is achieved with these modified Cu-based electrocatalysts, with an onset potential of -0.4 V and high C2H4 faradaic efficiency of 42.2 %, and these catalysts can also effectively suppress H-2 evolution during the CO2 reduction reaction. This work provides a simple and cost-effective method for synthesizing CN-encapsulated catalysts that provides the possibility of efficiently converting CO2 into C-2 hydrocarbons.

Abstract:The efficient transformation of carbon dioxide into useful chemical feedstock is of great significance, attracting intense research interest. The widely studied porous-coordinated polymers possess large pores to adsorb guest molecules and further allow the contact and to transfer the substrate molecule within their microenvironment. Here we present the synthesis of a silver-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) material with a three-dimensional structure by incorporating a tetraphenyl-ethylene moiety as the four-point connected node via the solvothermal method. This polymer exhibits as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the carboxylative cyclization of CO2 to α-methylene cyclic carbonates in excellent yields. Moreover, the introduction of silver (Ag (I)) chains in this framework shows the specific alkynophilicity to activate C≡C bonds in propargylic alcohols to greatly accelerate the efficient conversion, and the large pores in the catalyst exhibit a size-selective catalytic performance.

Abstract:Four novel N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) silver complexes, , have been synthesized and characterized. The single X-ray crystal diffraction data indicate a dinuclear solid-state structure for and and a mononuclear structure for and . These complexes have been successfully used as efficient catalysts for the C-H activating carboxylation of terminal alkynes with CO2. A wide range of substrates with various functional groups afforded the corresponding aryl or alkyl substituted propiolic acids in good yields under mild conditions. Moreover, the role of bases and the reaction mechanism is thoroughly discussed.

Abstract:We have developed a new series of single-component air- and moisture-stable catalysts for alkyne polymerization based on chloro-nickel and chloro-cobalt complexes containing phosphine ligands. The polymerization of p-diethynylbenzene initiated by these complexes proceeds smoothly in the presence of amines at room temperature to afford soluble π-conjugated polymers in yields as high as 81% with weight-average molecular weight up to 17 600.

Abstract:Graphic carbon nitride polymer was modified with transition bimetals compounds by impregnation of pre-prepared g-C3N4 in aqueous solution of ammonium molybdate and vanadate. The prepared hybrid material was characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, XPS and N-2 adsorption-desorption techniques to determine its surface morphology, composition and structure. The results revealed that VOx-MoOy single molecular layer incorporated into g-C3N4 molecule framework by interaction between host and guest was fabricated. The hybrid composite was employed as catalyst for styrene oxidation to benzaldehyde using molecular oxygen as oxidant. The results indicated that the composite was highly active and selective for styrene oxidation, giving TON 458.8 mol/mol((mo+v)) and 96.7% selectivity to benzaldehyde. Abstract:Single-component catalysts with integrated multiple reactive centers could work in concert to achieve enhanced activity tailored for specific catalytic reactions, but they remain underdeveloped. Herein, we report the construction of heterogeneous bimetallic porous coordination polymers (PCPs) containing both porphyrin and N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) metal sites via the coordinative assembly of the NHC functionalities. Three heterobimetallic PCPs (TIPP-Zn-Pd, TIPP-Cu-Pd and TIPP-Ni-Pd) have been prepared to verify this facile synthetic strategy for the first time. In order to establish a cooperative action toward the catalytic CO2 cycloaddition with epoxides, an additional tetraalkylammonium bromide functionality has also been incorporated into these polymeric structures through the N-substituent of the NHC moieties. The resulting heterogeneous bimetallic catalyst TIPP-Zn-Pd exhibits the best catalytic performance in CO2 cycloaddition with styrene oxide (SO) under solvent-free conditions at atmospheric pressure and is applicable to a wide range of epoxides. More importantly, TIPP-Zn-Pd works smoothly and is recyclable in the absence of a cocatalyst under 1.0 MPa of CO2 at 60 °C. This indicates that TIPP-Zn-Pd is quite competitive with the reported heterogeneous catalysts, which typically require a high reaction temperature above 100 °C under cocatalyst-free conditions. Thus, this work provides a new approach to design heterogeneous bimetallic PCP catalysts for high-performance CO2 fixation under mild reaction conditions.
Porous Organic Polymers with Built-in N-Heterocyclic Carbenes: Selective and Efficient Heterogeneous Catalyst for the Reductive N-Formylation of Amines with CO2

Abstract:A series of porous organic polymers (POPs) based on N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) building blocks has been prepared through an octacarbonyldicobalt complex [Co2 (CO)8 ]-catalyzed trimerization of terminal alkyne groups. By changing the monomer ratio in the copolymerization, cross-linked POPs with tunable surface areas of 485-731 m2 g-1 and pore volumes of 0.31-0.51 cm3 g-1 were easily prepared. Compared with the analogues homogeneous NHC (SIPr) catalysts, the POPs exhibited an enhanced catalytic activity and high selectivity in the reductive functionalization of CO2 with amines. The extraordinary performance of the sample could be attributed to the combination of the gas enrichment (or storage) effect, enhanced in-pore concentrations of other substrates, and advantageous micropore structures of the porous polymers. Meanwhile, these catalysts can easily be separated and recycled from the reaction systems with only a slight loss of activity. This excellent catalytic performance and facile recycling of heterogeneous catalysts make them very attractive. These NHC-containing POPs may provide a new platform for catalytic transformations of CO2 .
Silver Metal-Organic Framework Derived N-Doped Carbon Nanofibers for CO2 Conversion into β-Oxopropylcarbamates

Abstract:Developing efficient heterogeneous catalysts for chemical fixation of CO2 to produce high-value-added chemicals under mild conditions is highly desired but still challenging. Herein, we first reported an approach to prepare a novel catalyst (Ag@NCNFs), featuring Ag nanoparticles (NPs) embedded within porous nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers (NCNFs), via growing a Ag metal-organic framework on one-dimensional electrospun nanofibers followed by pyrolysis. Benefiting from the abundant nitrogen species and porous structure, Ag NPs is well dispersed in the obtained Ag@NCNFs. Catalytic studies indicated that Ag@NCNFs exhibited excellent catalytic activity for the three-component coupling reaction of CO2, secondary amines, and propargylic alcohols to generate β-oxopropylcarbamates under mild conditions with a turnover number (TON) of 16.2, and it can be recycled and reused at least 5 times without an obvious decline in catalytic activity. The reaction mechanism was clearly clarified by FTIR, NMR, 13C isotope labeling, control experiments, and density functional theory calculations. The results suggest that Ag@NCNFs and 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene can synergistically activate propargylic alcohol to react with CO2, and then the generated α-alkylidene cyclic carbonate was invaded by secondary amine to produce β-oxopropylcarbamate. Importantly, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first experimental and theoretical investigation on this reaction.

Abstract:A series of new metallosalen-based ionic porous organic polymers (POPs) were synthesized for the first time using a simple unique strategy based on the free-radical copolymerization reaction. Various techniques were used to characterize the physicochemical properties of these catalysts. These well-designed materials endowed high surface area, hierarchical porous structures, and enhanced CO2 /N2 adsorptive selectivity. Moreover, these POPs having both metal centers (Lewis acid) and ionic units (nucleophile) could serve as bifunctional catalysts in the catalytic conversion of CO2 into high value-added chemicals without any additional co-catalyst under mild and solvent-free conditions, for example, CO2 /epoxides cycloaddition and Nformylation of amines from CO2 and hydrosilanes. The results demonstrated that the irregular porous structure was very favorable for the diffusion of substrates and products, and the microporous structural property resulted in the enrichment of CO2 near the catalytic centers in the CO2 -involved transformations. Additionally, the superhydrophobic property could not only enhance the chemoselectivity of products but also promote the stability and recyclability of catalysts.

Basic-functionalized Ionic Porous Organic Polymers: Triple Roles in One for Highly Efficient and Recyclable Carboxylative Cyclization of CO2 under Mild Conditions.

Abstract:The transformation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into high-value chemicals is a significant step towards achieving the goal of "carbon neutrality". α-methylene cyclic carbonate, as an intermediate for the synthesis of many important organic compounds, is widely employed in industrial productions. In this work, a series of ionic porous organic polymers (IPOPs) with different basic-functionalized anions were successfully synthesized and adjusted to have certain BET surface areas and high contents of ion sites by post-modification. These basic-functionalized IPOPs could exhibit excellent catalytic performance for carboxylative cyclization of CO2 at 30 oC and 1 bar in presence of silver salts, eliminating the use of extra organic bases. In the whole catalytic reaction, the basic-functionalized anions could play triple roles: enriching CO2 for further transformation, activating the hydroxyl groups of substrates to improve the catalytic performance, while coordinating with Ag atom to stabilize and regenerate catalyst. Notably, the catalytic system of DCX-4-Tet/Ag2O exhibited excellent recyclability, and the yield of α-alkylidene cyclic carbonate was well maintained at 99% after 5 cycles. To the best of our knowledge, the catalytic system was the first example of basic-functionalized IPOPs that played multiple roles for highly efficient CO2 cyclization under mild conditions without any extra organic bases.

Abstract:Silver nanoparticles were successfully supported on the zeolite-type metal-organic framework MIL-101 to yield Ag@MIL-101 by a simple liquid impregnation method. For the first time, the conversion of terminal alkynes into propiolic acids with CO2 was achieved by the use of the Ag@MIL-101 catalysts. Owing to the excellent catalytic activity, the reaction proceeded at atmospheric pressure and low temperature (50 °C). The Ag@MIL-101 porous material is of outstanding bifunctional character as it is capable of simultaneously capturing and converting CO2 with low energy consumption and can be recovered easily by centrifugation.

Abstract:Hydrothermal reaction of silver nitrate and a tetraphosphonic acid (H8L) affords a novel coordination polymer, with the general formula, [Ag10(H3L)2(H2O)2(4,4'-bipy), namely compound 1. It is built from extend ...Ag-O-P-O... chains and organic linkers to form a 3D network. In its structure, three of four phosphonyl groups of the organic ligand are protonated, endowing compound 1 with rich Brønsted acid sites. With the Brønsted and Lewis acidic sites, the catalytic activity of 1 was investigated through cycloaddition reaction of CO2 and epoxides, and the results displayed an excellent performance. Besides, the heterogeneous nature of compound 1 was proved by five cycle experiments with no significant compromise of the activity, indicating the silver phosphonate as an excellent catalyst for CO2 chemical fixation.

Abstract:A silver oxidant/Lewis acid catalyst cooperatively promoted three-component carbo-heterofunctionalization of alkenes is reported. A broad range of nucleophiles, including H2O, alcohols, and anilines, can combine with a variety of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds or analogues as radical precursors to realize difunctionalization of various styrene derivatives. Interestingly, mechanistic investigations demonstrate that the Ag(I) complex of bidentate phosphine ligand quickly oxidizes the radical intermediate generated from the addition of initial radical across alkene double bonds to form carbocation intermediates, which may be the reason behind the excellent yields and high selectivity of such reactions.

Abstract:A well structure-defined dinuclear silver complex [Ag2(PDP)]OTf, where HPDP—bispyridylpyrrole ligand, OTf−—triflato, was used as catalyst for coupling of CO2 with epoxides to generate exclusive cyclic carbonates. Yield up to 87% was obtained for various substrates at a low loading of 0.1 mol%, at ambient temperature and pressure under solvent-free condition. The catalytic reusability of 1·OTf was also studied.

Abstract:CO2 fixation via directly formation of C-C bonds to obtain carboxylation compound is an essential reaction in industry. Creating efficient, inexpensive and industrially valuable key catalysts have always been a desire, but also an urgent challenge. Here, we synthesized a kind of melamine-based porous organic polymers (POPs) evenly loaded Ag Nanoparticles (Ag NPs/Melamine-based POPs) by the gas bubbling-assisted membrane reduction (GBMR) approach. The melamine-based POPs were used as good nitrogen-rich supports for loading and dispersing Ag nanoparticles. Ag NPs/ melamine-based POPs exhibited good CO2 absorption capacity (2.1 mmol/g, 273 K and 0.1 MPa) and the excellent activity was up to 93% towards the carboxylation of terminal alkynes with CO2 under mild reaction conditions (323 K, 0.1 MPa). And the TOF is 2.23 h−1. Specially, this is very few report of heterogeneously catalyzed directly formation of carboxylation compound only applying terminal alkynes with CO2 under low temperature and atmospheric pressure. The mechanistic study revealed that the well-dispersed Ag active species promoted highly efficient and green conversion of CO2. Moreover, the catalyst was easily recovered and could be reused at least six times with retention of high catalytic activity.
