Abstract:The advances in application of ionic liquids and immobilized ionic liquids in heterogeneous catalytic reactions,such as liquid-liquid and liquid/gas-solid phases,are reviewed,particularly,the immobilization of ionic liquids by virtue of incipient wetness impregnation,tethering or grafting,sol-gel method is introduced in detail.The current problems and development direction of the immobilization of ionic liquids are also pointed out.

Abstract:Ionic liquids, with their unique properties, including low volatility, high polarity, good thermal stability over a wide temperature range and selective dissolving capacity by a proper choice of cations or anions, have attracted increasing interest in the organic transformations as reactioin medium as well as catalyst (ligand). Compared with traditional organic solvents, ionic liquids have great advantages in obtaining products with high isolated yields and good to excellent selectivities, accelerationg reaction rate in some cases, ease of work-up, as well as recycling use with or without catalysts after simply recoveration. The paper reviews the advanced progress in the application of ionic liquids as reaction medium as well as catalysts to organic synthesis, mainly including coupling reaction, Michael addition, Baylis-Hillman reaction, Diels-Alder reaction, Aldol reaction, Knoevenagel condensation, cyclorization reaction, alkylation and acylation, oxidation and reduction etc.

Abstract:Ionic liquids(ILs) are non-volatile,non-flammable and easy-to-recycle organic salts and therefore are viewed as potential replacements of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) and used as green solvents and efficient reaction media to reduce/eliminate environmental problems in chemistry and process industries.In recent years,ILs have been successful used in polymerization reactions not only to diminish the problems resulted from VOCs but also to recycle catalysts and purify polymeric products,to more efficiently control polymerization process and the structure and properties of resultant polymers,and even to directly catalyze polymerizations.This article reviews recent advances in polymerization conducted in ionic liquid media.

Abstract:Advances of application of ionic liquids as solvents and catalysts in the catalytic oxidation reaction are summarized in this paper. Ionic liquids, as solvent, can provide an environment which is different from the traditional organic solvents for the chemical reactions, and make the catalytic activity and stability better, conversion and selectivity higher; Ionic liquids, as catalyst, not only play the function of promoting reaction, but also play a solvent/catalyst dual functions more directly. Currently ionic liquids in catalytic oxidation reaction are mostly used as solvent, Especially used widely in organic synthesis. The designability of ionic liquids provides a broad space for ionic liquids as catalyst.

Microwave-assisted organic transformations, using ionic liquids as reaction medium or catalysts, have great advantages in accelerating reaction rate, obtaining products with high recovery yield and good selectivity, ease of work-up, as well as recycling usage of ionic liquids after simply regeneration. The paper reviews the progress of ionic liquids as microwave mediums or catalysts in the fields of organic synthesis, mainly including cyclization, nucleophilic substitution, ring closing metathesis, acylation, rearrangement, polymerization, coupling, oxidation and reduction as well as selective debromination, etc.

Abstract:In biomass refinery, ionic liquids (ILs) enable more efficient conversion and higher product selectivity at milder conditions compared with conventional molecular solvents. Carbohydrates and lignin are the dominating components in biomass. The aim of this article is to update the recent progresses of ionic liquids‐based catalytic systems for lignocellulosic biomass conversions based on the published works mostly in the last 5 years. Mechanistic understanding of the catalytic processes in converting biomass to renewable chemicals and fuels is critically important for the design of superior catalysts. Apart from theoretical approaches, two recently developed characterization techniques, in situ far infrared spectroscopy and two‐dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance have been applied in the molecular level understanding of both catalysts and catalyzed reactions during biomass conversions in ILs. Abstract:The recent rapid progress in research on ionic liquids has undoubtedly been stimulated by the rise of green chemistry. The authors' work over the last eight years on ionic liquid-related green chemistry, especially in the areas of synthesis and reactivity, is reviewed in this account. Four aspects are diseussed: ionic liquids afford an alternative to the traditional concepts of solid support and organic template, a new approach to liquid phase reactions, novel methods of phase separation, and pushing forward the developments in other areas of green chemistry.

Abstract:Ionic liquids are salts that are liquid at low temperature (<100 degrees C) which represent a new class of solvents with nonmolecular, ionic character. Even though the first representative has been known since 1914, ionic liquids have only been investigated as solvents for transition metal catalysis in the past ten years. Publications to date show that replacing an organic solvent by an ionic liquid can lead to remarkable improvements in well-known processes. Ionic liquids form biphasic systems with many organic product mixtures. This gives rise to the possibility of a multiphase reaction procedure with easy isolation and recovery of homogeneous catalysts. In addition, ionic liquids have practically no vapor pressure which facilitates product separation by distillation. There are also indications that switching from a normal organic solvent to an ionic liquid can lead to novel and unusual chemical reactivity. This opens up a wide field for future investigations into this new class of solvents in catalytic applications.

Abstract:Common reaction media, volatile organic solvents (VOS), contribute significantly to air pollution and pose challenges in separation and recycling processes. As environmental awareness grows, researchers are focusing on developing alternative, eco-friendly solvent systems to replace these traditional VOS. Ionic liquids (ILs) have emerged as promising "green" solvents due to their extremely low vapor pressure and high thermal stability, providing advantages in containment, product recovery, and recyclability. ILs exhibit varying stability to moisture and miscibility with molecular liquids, and their properties like density, melting point, and viscosity can be tailored by selecting appropriate cation and/or anion components. Beyond their role in chemical reactions, ILs find applications in separations, extractions, electroanalytical processes, and chemical sensing. The high ionic character of ILs significantly enhances reaction rates in various chemical processes. These versatile features position ILs as potential alternatives to VOS in a wide range of industrial applications. Moreover, their use as industrial solvents can have economic, social, and ecological impacts by influencing human health and environmental factors. In summary, the exploration of ILs as green solvents represents a crucial step towards addressing environmental concerns associated with traditional volatile organic solvents in industrial chemical processes.

Abstract:Owing to the unique advantages of ionic liquids, the preparation and industrial application of ionic liquids have attracted considerable interest. Herein, we report that a series of simple ammonium ionic liquids has been synthesized and characterised. These ionic liquids are air and water stable, easy to prepare from amine and acid, and relatively cheap. They have been used as catalysts and environmentally benign solvents for the cracking reactions of dialkoxypropanes, eliminating the need for volatile organic solvents and additional catalysts. The results clearly demonstrate that these ionic liquids can be easily separated and reused without losing their activity and quality. Furthermore, the conversion and selectivity obtained with this method are significantly increased in comparison with those reported in traditional organic solvents to date. These ionic liquids provide a good alternative way for the synthesis of alkoxypropenes.

Abstract:Ionic liquids, as a special class of organic compounds, have attracted ever‐growing interest in recent years. They have been employed in many organic transformations as a green alternative to volatile organic solvents and as a catalyst to modify catalytic activity and recyclability. Recent developments have demonstrated that ionic liquids might also have many benefits in asymmetric reactions. In this review, we survey the use of ionic liquids in asymmetric transformations, including the use of ionic liquids as reaction media in asymmetric reactions, ionic‐liquid‐tagged chiral catalysts for use in asymmetric synthesis, and supported ionic liquid catalysts in asymmetric transformations. Abstract:Four novel basic ionic liquids (ILs), based on 1,4-diazobicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) and 3-chloro-1,2-propanediol, have been introduced as catalysts for Knoevenagel condensation. These catalysts are applicable to a wide range of aromatic/heteroaromatic aldehydes with alpha-aromatic (heteroaromatic or polyaromatic)-substituted methylene compounds in water at room temperature, and they afford the products in excellent yields within short times. These reactions are operationally simple, and the desired products can be separated directly from the reaction mixture without further purification. A possible reaction mechanism was proposed, and the relevant evidence was given. In addition, the ionic liquids used can be regenerated and recycled several times without significant loss of activity. Furthermore, the novel ILs could be efficiently used in a step of atorvastatin synthesis.

Abstract:Two kinds of task-specific ionic liquids (Ils) composed of imidazolinium or pyridinium cations with a carboxy group and hydrogensulfate as counterion have been synthesised and their application in oxidation of olefins has been studied. The carbonyl compounds were obtained from the oxidation of chain olefins, and 1,2-cycloalkandiols were obtained from cycloalkenes in the novel oxidation systems which are easily manipulated. The products can be easily isolated from the reaction system and the ILs can readily be recovered and reused.

Abstract:In this review, catalyst as well as solvent nature of ionic liquids in organic transformations has been described. Ionic liquids have been tremendously utilized for many years as a medium for organic solvents. Further ionic liquids are also used in different fields like electrochemistry, catalysis, spectroscopy material science. The current review discussed about the synthesis, properties, applications of ionic liquid and ionic liquid-based nanocomposites for organic transformations. The application of ionic liquids as acids, bases and soluble support for catalysts and organocatalysts are also discussed in this article. This review also discussed the application of ionic liquids in asymmetric reactions like aldol condensation, Diels–Alder reaction, enantioselective hydrogenation, Knoevenagel reaction, Michael addition reaction, miscellaneous reaction, transesterification and biodiesel production. It is easier to separate the product of a reaction from an ionic liquid than that of a traditional solvent, because the ionic liquids having polar nature. The green nature and reusable ability of ionic liquids make them more appropriate candidate in organic transformations.
