Abstract:Algebra Colloquium, Volume 31, Issue 01, Page 11-24, March 2024. Let [math] be the ring of integers modulo 4. We study the [math]-constacyclic and [math]-cyclic codes over the non-chain ring [math] for a unit [math] in [math]. We define several Gray maps and find that the respective Gray images of a quasi-cyclic code over [math] are cyclic, quasi-cyclic or permutation equivalent to this code. For an odd positive integer [math], we determine the generator polynomials of cyclic and [math]-constacyclic codes of length [math] over [math]. Further, we prove that a [math]-cyclic code of length [math] is a [math]-constacyclic code if [math] is odd, and a [math]-quasi-twisted code if [math] is even. A few examples are also incorporated, in which two parameters are new and one is best known to date.

Abstract:The results of J. F. Qiann et al. [4] on $(1-\gamma)$-cyclic codes over finite chain rings of nilpotency index 2 are extended to $(1-\gamma^e)$-cyclic codes over finite chain rings of arbitrary nilpotency index $e+1$. The Gray map is introduced for this type of rings. We prove that the Gray image of a linear $(1 - \gamma^{e})$-cyclic code over a finite chain ring is a distance-invariant quasi-cyclic code over its residue field. When the length of codes and the characteristic of a ring are relatively prime, the Gray images of a linear cyclic code and a linear $(1+\gamma^e)$-cyclic code are permutatively to quasi-cyclic codes over its residue field.

Abstract:In 1976, Helleseth conjectured that two binary m-sequences of length 2 m − 1 can not have a three-valued crosscorrelation function when m is a power of 2. We show that this conjecture is true when −1 is a correlation value. In other words, if ${{\mathcal{C}}_{1,k}}$ is the cyclic code of length 2 m − 1 with two zeros α, α k , where α is a primitive element of ${{\mathbb{F}}_{2^m}}$ and gcd(k, 2 m − 1) = 1, then its dual ${{\mathcal{C}}_{1,k}^{\perp}}$ can not have three weights when m is a power of 2.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{F}_{p^m}$ be a finite field of cardinality $p^m$, where $p$ is a prime, and $k, N$ be any positive integers. We denote $R_k=F_{p^m}[u]/\langle u^k\rangle =F_{p^m}+uF_{p^m}+\ldots+u^{k-1}F_{p^m}$ ($u^k=0$) and $\lambda=a_0+a_1u+\ldots+a_{k-1}u^{k-1}$ where $a_0, a_1,\ldots, a_{k-1}\in F_{p^m}$ satisfying $a_0\neq 0$ and $a_1=1$. Let $r$ be a positive integer satisfying $p^{r-1}+1\leq k\leq p^r$. We defined a Gray map from $R_k$ to $F_{p^m}^{p^r}$ first, then prove that the Gray image of any linear $\lambda$-constacyclic code over $R_k$ of length $N$ is a distance invariant linear $a_0^{p^r}$-constacyclic code over $F_{p^m}$ of length $p^rN$. Furthermore, the generator polynomials for each linear $\lambda$-constacyclic code over $R_k$ of length $N$ and its Gray image are given respectively. Finally, some optimal constacyclic codes over $F_{3}$ and $F_{5}$ are constructed.

Abstract:Linear codes over finite rings become one of hot topics in coding theory after Hommons et al.([4], 1994) discovered that several remarkable nonlinear binary codes with some linear-like properties are the images of Gray map of linear codes over $Z_4$. In this paper we consider two series of linear codes $C(G)$ and $widetilde{C}(G)$ over Galois ring $R=GR(p^2,r)$, where $G$ is a subgroup of $R^{(s)^*}$ and $R^{(s)}=GR(p^2,rs)$. We present a general formula on $N_beta(a)$ in terms of Gauss sums on $R^{(s)}$ for each $ain R$, where $N_beta(a)$ is the number of a-component of the codeword $c_betain C(G) (betain R^{(s)})$ (Theorem 3.1). We have determined the complete Hamming weight distribution of $C(G)$ and the minimum Hamming distance of $widetilde{C}(G)$ for some special G (Theorem 3.3 and 3.4). We show a general formula on homogeneous weight of codewords in $C(G)$ and $widetilde{C}(G)$ (Theorem 4.5) for the special $G$ given in Theorem 3.4. Finally we obtained series of nonlinear codes over $mathbb{F}_{q} (q=p^r)$ with two Hamming distance by using Gray map (Corollary 4.6).

Abstract:A code ${\cal C}$ is $\Z_2\Z_4$-additive if the set of coordinates can be partitioned into two subsets $X$ and $Y$ such that the punctured code of ${\cal C}$ by deleting the coordinates outside $X$ (respectively, $Y$) is a binary linear code (respectively, a quaternary linear code). In this paper $\Z_2\Z_4$-additive codes are studied. Their corresponding binary images, via the Gray map, are $\Z_2\Z_4$-linear codes, which seem to be a very distinguished class of binary group codes. As for binary and quaternary linear codes, for these codes the fundamental parameters are found and standard forms for generator and parity check matrices are given. For this, the appropriate inner product is deduced and the concept of duality for $\Z_2\Z_4$-additive codes is defined. Moreover, the parameters of the dual codes are computed. Finally, some conditions for self-duality of $\Z_2\Z_4$-additive codes are given.

Abstract:The invariant theory of finite groups can connect the coding theory to the number theory. In this paper, under this conformity, we obtain the minimal generators of the rings of E-polynomials constructed from the groups related to $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes. In addition, we determine the generators of the invariant rings appearing by E-Polynomials and complete weight enumerators of Type II $\mathbb{Z}_4$-codes.

Abstract:We study cyclic codes over the ring H of order 4 and characteristic 2 defined by generators and relations as H=⟨a,b∣2a=2b=0,a2=0,b2=b,ab=ba=0⟩. This is the first time that cyclic codes over a non-unitary ring are studied. Every cyclic code of length n over H is uniquely determined by the data of an ordered pair of binary cyclic codes of length n. We characterize self-dual, quasi-self-dual, and linear complementary dual cyclic codes H. We classify cyclic codes of length at most 7 up to equivalence. A Gray map between cyclic codes of length n over H and quasi-cyclic codes of length 2n over F2 is studied.

Abstract:Recently, simplicial complexes are used in constructions of several infinite families of minimal and optimal linear codes by Hyun et al. Building upon their research, in this paper more linear codes over the ring Z4 are constructed by simplicial complexes. Specifically, the Lee weight distributions of the resulting quaternary codes are determined and two infinite families of four-Lee-weight quaternary codes are obtained. Compared to the databases of Z4 codes by Aydin et al., at least nine new quaternary codes are found. Thanks to the special structure of the defining sets, we have the ability to determine whether the Gray images of certain obtained quaternary codes are linear or not. This allows us to obtain two infinite families of binary nonlinear codes and one infinite family of binary minimal linear codes. Furthermore, utilizing these minimal binary codes, some secret sharing schemes as a byproduct also are established.

Abstract:Cyclic codes are an important class of linear codes, whose weight distribution have been extensively studied. So far, most of previous results obtained were for cyclic codes with no more than three zeros. Recently, \cite{Y-X-D12} constructed a class of cyclic codes with arbitrary number of zeros, and computed the weight distributions for several cases. In this paper, we determine the weight distribution for a new family of such codes. This is achieved by certain new methods, such as the theory of Jacobi sums over finite fields and subtle treatment of some complicated combinatorial identities.

Abstract:Self-dual codes over the ring Z 4 are related to combinatorial designs and unimodular lattices. First, we discuss briefly how to construct self-dual cyclic codes over Z 4 of arbitrary even length. Then we focus on solving one key problem of this subject: for any positive integers k and m such that m is even, we give a direct and effective method to construct all distinct Hermitian self-dual cyclic codes of length 2 k over the Galois ring GR(4, m ). This then allows us to provide explicit expressions to accurately represent all these Hermitian self-dual cyclic codes in terms of binomial coefficients. In particular, several numerical examples are presented to illustrate our applications.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduced double cyclic codes over $ R^r\times R^s $, where $ R = \mathbb{Z}_{2}+u\mathbb{Z}_{2} = \{0, 1, u, 1+u\} $ is the ring with four elements and $ u^2 = 0 $. We first determined the generator polynomials of $ R $-double cyclic codes for odd integers $ r $ and $ s $, then gave the generators of duals of free double cyclic codes over $ R^r\times R^s $. By defining a linear Gray map, we looked at the binary images of $ R $-double cyclic codes and gave several examples of optimal parameter binary linear codes obtained from $ R $-double cyclic codes. Moreover, we studied self-dual $ R $-double cyclic codes and presented an example of a self-dual $ R $-double cyclic code.
