Abstract:In this paper, we continue Curto-Hwang-Lee's work to study the connection between hyponormality and subnormality for block Toeplitz operators acting on the vector-valued Hardy space of the unit circle.Curto-Hwang-Lee's work focuses primarily on hyponormality and subnormality of block Toeplitz operators with rational symbols. By studying the "weak" commutativity, we extend Curto-Hwang-Lee's result to block Toeplitz operators with symbols of bounded type.

Abstract:There is a resent paper claiming that every hyponormal operator which is not a multiple of the identity (operator) has a nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace. If this claim is true, then every hyponormal operator has a nontrivial invariant subspace, and every subnormal operator which is not multiple of the identity has a nontrivial hyperinvariant subspace. But we find out that the proof of the above claim go wrong. Therefore the invariant subspace problem of the hyponormal operator and the hyperinvariant problem of subnormal operator remains unresolved. Moreover, it is well known that these are two important research topics in operator theory that have not been solved for a long time, and that a lot of people have been trying to solved the two problems. So it is very meaningful to clarify whether these two problems have been solved.

Abstract:Generalized Weyl's theorem holds for an operator when the complement in the spectrum of the B-Weyl spectrum coincides with the isolated points of the spectrum which are eigenvalues; and "generalized a-Weyl's theorem holds" for an operator when the complement in the approximate point spectrum of the semi-B-essential approximate point spectrum coincides with the isolated points of the approximate point spectrum which are eigenvalues. If T or T* is p-hyponormal or M-hyponormal then for every f is an element of H(sigma(T)), generalized Weyl's theorem holds for f (T), so Weyl's theorem holds for f (T), where H(sigma(T)) denotes the set of all analytic functions on an open neighborhood of sigma(T). Moreover, if T* is p-hyponormal or M-hyponormal then for every f is an element of H(sigma(T)), generalized a-Weyl's theorem holds for f (T) and hence a-Weyl's theorem holds for f (T).

Abstract:Inspired by the problem of powers of hyponormal operators, this paper is to discuss the structure on powers of p-hyponormal and log-hyponormal operators. The structure on powers of operators consists of same-side structure and different-side structure. The same-side structure means relations between $T^{{*}^{n+m}} T^{n+m}$ and $T^{{*}^{n}} T^n ({\rm or} T^nT^{{*}^{n}}\,{\rm and}\,T^{n+m}T^{{*}^{n+m}})$ , and the different-side structure means relations between $T^{{*}^{m}} T^{m}\,{\rm and}\,T^{n}T^{{*}^{n}}$ where m, n are positive integers and T is a bounded linear operator on a Hilbert space. Thus, the original problem of powers of hyponormal operators belongs to different-side structure on powers of hyponormal operators. The structure on powers of p-hyponormal operators for p > 0 is emphasized. Also, some applications are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we reprove that: (i) the Aluthge transform of a complex symmetric operator $\tilde{T} = |T|^{\frac{1}{2}} U|T|^{\frac{1}{2}}$ is complex symmetric, (ii) if T is a complex symmetric operator, then $(\tilde{T})^{*}$ and $\widetilde{T^{*}}$ are unitarily equivalent. And we also prove that: (iii) if T is a complex symmetric operator, then $\widetilde{(T^{*})}_{s,t}$ and $(\tilde{T}_{t,s})^{*}$ are unitarily equivalent for s, t > 0, (iv) if a complex symmetric operator T belongs to class wA(t, t), then T is normal.

Abstract:It is established that the relationships between Weyl's theorem, Browder's theorem, generalized Weyl's theorem and generalized Browder's theorem in a semiprime Banach algebra . We prove that if the commutant of contains a left or right injective quasinilpotent element, then f ( a ) satisfies Weyl's theorem for f belongs to , the set of analytic functions on a neighborhood of . It is shown that the accumulation points of the spectrum of an element in are invariant under any commuting perturbation f such that for some . This result provides a positive answer to Question 2.8 in (Linear Multilinear Algebra 64(2):247–257, 2016), and it is then applied to investigate the perturbations of Weyl's theorem and generalized Weyl's theorem. It is also shown that if a is a hyponormal element (that is, ) in a algebra and , then f ( a ) satisfies Weyl's theorem. If additionally is primitive then f ( a ) obeys generalized Weyl's theorem. We also consider some other interesting properties of hyponormal elements in C* algebras, including simply polaroidness, topological divisor of zero, self-adjointness of the spectral projection with respect to , and the spectral mapping theorem of the Weyl spectrum.

Abstract:The gap between hyponormal and subnormal Hilbert space operators can be studied using the intermediate classes of weakly n-hyponormal and (strongly) n-hyponormal operators. The main examples for these various classes, particularly to distinguish them, have been the weighted shifts. In this paper we first obtain a characterization for a weakly n-hyponormal weighted shift W α with weight sequence α, from which we extend some known results for quadratically hyponormal (i.e., weakly 2-hyponormal) weighted shifts to weakly n-hyponormal weighted shifts. In addition, we discuss some new examples for weakly n-hyponormal weighted shifts; one illustrates the differences among the classes of 2-hyponormal, quadratically hyponormal, and positively quadratically hyponormal operators.

Abstract:In this paper, we study quasinormal and hyponormal composition operators \W with linear fractional compositional symbol $\ph$ on the Hardy and weighted Bergman spaces. We characterize the quasinormal composition operators induced on $H^{2}$ and $A_{\alpha}^{2}$ by these maps and many such weighted composition operators, showing that they are necessarily normal in all known cases. We eliminate several possibilities for hyponormal weighted composition operators but also give new examples of hyponormal weighted composition operators on $H^2$ which are not quasinormal.
A note on the $A$-numerical range of semi-Hilbertian operators

Abstract:In this paper we explore the relation between the $A$-numerical range and the $A$-spectrum of $A$-bounded operators in the setting of semi-Hilbertian structure. We introduce a new definition of $A$-normal operator and prove that closure of the $A$-numerical range of an $A$-normal operator is the convex hull of the $A$-spectrum. We further prove Anderson's theorem for the sum of $A$-normal and $A$-compact operators which improves and generalizes the existing result on Anderson's theorem for $A$-compact operators. Finally we introduce strongly $A$-numerically closed class of operators and along with other results prove that the class of $A$-normal operators is strongly $A$-numerically closed.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new notion of completely semi-weakly hyponormal operator which is a special case of polynomially hyponormal operator. For an one-step backward extension of the Bergman weighted shift, we show that completely semi-weakly hyponormal weighted shifts need not be subnormal. In addition, we provide an example which can serve to distinguish the semi-weak m-hyponormality from the semi-weak m-hyponormality with positive determinant coe ffi cients for such a shift. Finally we discuss flatness on semi-weakly m-hyponormal weighted shifts.

Abstract:In this paper we attempt to lay the foundations for a theory encompassing some natural extensions of the class of subnormal operators, namely the $n$--subnormal operators and the sub-$n$--normal operators. We discuss inclusion relations among the above mentioned classes and other related classes, e.g., $n$--quasinormal and quasi-$n$--normal operators. We show that sub-$n$--normality is stronger than $n$--subnormality, and produce a concrete example of a $3$--subnormal operator which is not sub-$2$--normal. In \cite{CU1}, R.E. Curto, S.H. Lee and J. Yoon proved that if an operator $T$ is subnormal, left-invertible, and such that $T^n$ is quasinormal for some $n \le 2$, then $T$ is quasinormal. in \cite{JS}, P.Pietrzycki and J. Stochel improved this result by removing the assumption of left invertibility. In this paper we consider suitable analogs of this result for the case of operators in the above-mentioned classes. In particular, we prove that the weight sequence of an $n$--quasinormal unilateral weighted shift must be periodic with period at most $n$.

Abstract:In this paper, certain connections between complex symmetric operators and anti-automorphisms of singly generated C*-algebras are established. This provides a C*-algebra approach to the norm closure problem for complex symmetric operators. For T is an element of B(H) satisfying C*(T) boolean AND K(H) = {0}, we give several characterizations for T to be a norm limit of complex symmetric operators. As applications, we give concrete characterizations for weighted shifts with nonzero weights to be norm limits of complex symmetric operators. In particular, we prove a conjecture of Garcia and Poore. On the other hand, it is proved that an essentially normal operator is a norm limit of complex symmetric operators if and only if it is complex symmetric. We obtain a canonical decomposition for essentially normal operators which are complex symmetric.

Abstract:In this paper, we give new characterizations of self-adjoint and normal operators on a Hilbert space . Among other results, we show that if is a finite-dimensional Hilbert space and , then T is self-adjoint if and only if there exists such that . If in addition, T and are invertible, then T is self-adjoint if and only if . Considering the polar decomposition of , we show that T is self-adjoint if and only if T is p -hyponormal (log-hyponormal) and U is self-adjoint. Also, if is a log-hyponormal operator and the spectrum of U is contained within the set of vertices of a regular polygon, then T is necessarily normal.
