Abstract:The cross-media communication network is important in the fields of marine resource exploration, search and rescue, cross-domain unmanned combat system and so on. The ocean buoy can function as a communication relay in the cross-media communication network. Traditional terrestrial network topologies or protocols may no longer be applicable in the sea due to the marine environment. The current network simulation platform does not support simulation in the marine scene, thus a network model of the marine environment is proposed to analyze the effects of the marine environment in this paper. In order to simulate the influence of wave fluctuation on wireless transmission between buoys, a buoy motion model with the variation of buoy antenna height and inclination with waves is proposed. At the same time, a radio propagation loss model with two-ray reflection loss and water vapor absorption loss is added in the network model. Both are modeled in the NS-3 network simulation platform. Based on this simulation platform, the throughput performance of the two routing protocols DSDV and DSR under sea states 1, 3, 5, and 8 is verified. The results show that the network throughput shows a gradual downward trend with the increase of sea state level, demonstrating the applicability of the suggested marine environment simulation model. Furthermore, the simulation results show that DSR has better performance than DSDV in low to medium sea states.
