Abstract:After the literature review on the measurement of innovation ability, according to the framework of TIM theory, this article brings forward a new concept: Total Innovation Capacity (TIC). Based on the TIC index system and enterprises' background analysis, a contrastive study of several Chinese cases was given and some hypotheses on the TIC and Total Innovation Performance were validated. This article will strengthen the application of TIM theory and provide some quantitive evidences for actualizing TIM in firms. © 2004 IEEE.

Abstract:The reconfiguration of indigenous innovation capability is an emergency issue for emerging economy. However, the 'complementary or substitution' argument about the relationship among search strategies existed in re-cent studies, which hinders the reconfiguration of indigenous innovation capability. Thus, based on data from 376 high-tech enterprises, this paper employed cluster analysis and multi-logistic regression method to study the rela-tionship between boundary spanning knowledge search synergy and types of indigenous innovation capability du-ring its reconfiguration process. There are several important results. Firstly, there are three dominant types of tech-nological innovation capability during each stage of capability reconfiguration: a) knowledge assimilation capability dominant type; b) knowledge assimilation and integration capability lead type; c)knowledge assimilation, integration capability and creation capabilities at a high level under balanced development type. Secondly, there are different boundary spanning knowledge search synergy strategies facilitate each type of indigenous innovation capability du-ring its reconfiguration. This paper not only extends the application of synergy theory, landscape theory in the field of indigenous innovation, but also has managerial implications for enterprise indigenous innovation capability reconfiguration under emerging economy.

The critical factors of successful innovation are that Chinese industry paid more attention to the acquisition and absorption of foreign advanced technology until the 1980s. Abstract:A comparative study of the innovation models of Japanese,Korean and Taiwan firms indicates that Korea adopts technology leapfrogging strategy while China's Taiwan applies technology value chain promotion strategy.But both of them depend mostly on overseas markets.However,Japan,in principle,depends on special demand of domestic markets and therefore it subverts the monopoly of European and American firms with the aid of disruptive innovation.On the basis of some new innovation theory and economic development theory,the present paper explores the path of indigenous innovation for Chinese firms from the perspective of international environment and characteristics of the domestic market.The study argues that China should establish a model of indigenous innovation with disruptive innovation as a dominant approach,together with a subsidiary approach of technology leapfrogging.This paper also argues that China should place emphasis on the new creative thinking based on a profound understanding of both Chinese customers' demands and the traditional Chinese cultural value.

Abstract:Aiming to know more about the situation of China's innovation capacity,this paper constructs a set of indicators to measure the NIC of China from 1991 to 2007,and compares it with that of Japan,the United States and all OECD member countries.After predicting the NIC by the fitted regression equation,it compares the NIC of China with Japan,United States in the future.And it finds that China indeed has a nice investment in innovation;however,due to the low efficency of innovation management,it doesn't have a satisfying innovation outcome.So,it suggests that Chinese government should emphasize the innovation management capacity.

Abstract:Innovation capability is accumulated internally rather than acquired from other enterprises. With the development of enterprises, innovation capability developed dynamically based on the external environment and internal needs. Based on the analysis of three longitudinal cases, the rules of the incremental development of innovation capability can be summarized as follows: (1) Technological innovation capability, as one of the most important element is developed from imitating capability to creatively imitating capability to indigenous innovation capability. The evolution of technological innovation capability can be characterized of the transformation from low-level capability to high-level capability. (2) Innovation capability is composed of core technological capability and complementary capability. With the enterprise's development, the synergy between core technologies and complementary assets can promote the cultivation and development of innovation capability which demonstrate two major patterns including the extension of existing core technology with complementary assets and the involvement of new core technology. (3)The incremental development of innovation capability has changed from that of single element innovation capability leveraging to portfolio innovation capability leveraging, and then to total innovation capability leveraging. TIM theory has provided an appropriate framework to explore the evolution of innovation capability.

Abstract:Based on the theory of National Innovation System (NIS), the development history of China's indigenous innovation is separated into five stages from 1949 to 2011. In-depth analysis is taken to explore the international and political environment, innovation resources and participants of innovation activities. And then several basic elements for indigenous innovation are extracted. These basic factors include emancipating the mind, meeting local market need and cooperating between industries, universities, and research institutes. Emancipating the mind is the prerequisite of indigenous innovation; meeting the domestic market needs are the start points of indigenous innovation; and the synergy between different actors of NIS is the major driven force. And above all, the cultivation of indigenous innovation capability is an incremental process.

Abstract:In global competition, there is a need to measure the capability of continuous innovation for industrial clusters. Innovation capability for industrial cluster is measured by the Innovation Organization Sub-System (IOSS), Innovation Support Sub-System (ISSS) and Innovation Environmental Sub-Systems (IESS). In this paper, an evaluation system composed of 22 indicators is developed. An empirical study based on the Qingdao Technology Park has examined the changes of its innovation capabilities. Discussions and recommendations to improve the capabilities of continuous innovation are also given.

Abstract:As the core of technological change, the ability to innovate artificial intelligence (AI) is related to a country's scientific and technological strength and competitiveness. In this paper, an indicator system was constructed for measuring technological innovation capability in 30 provinces and cities in China (2012 ~2019) from four levels - innovation subjects, environment, motivation, and benefits - based on the coefficient of variation method and TOPSIS model. The results show that China's innovation capability in AI is on the rise, but there are significant spatial differences in various regions, which are mainly manifested in a decreasing gradient from east to west. Further research found that among the four levels, innovation capability of the first echelon provinces and cities is generally higher; except for innovation benefits, the progress in innovation capability of the first echelon provinces and cities in the other three levels has been slow.

Abstract:The patent in force, especially the invention patent in force, is a new index of regional innovation capability and market competitiveness. With the patent agglomeration degree method, the article investigates the capability of the industrial technology innovation of China's provinces and regions. This method involves two dimensions: regional agglomeration degree and industry agglomeration degree. The results of this study show that most advanced industrial technology innovation regions are centered in the Southeast Coastal Zone of china and Beijing. Besides, a small number of provinces in midland are competitive. This article also analyses the specialty industries of 8 provinces and regions.

Abstract:The political concept of indigenous innovation in China sets out a guiding principle for the country's major transformation towards becoming an innovation nation. However, firms' innovation strategies and capabilities in middle-income countries are usually heterogeneous, making a uniform response to this concept at the company level highly unlikely. The paper's empirical contribution is based on analysing survey data on technologically advanced machinery firms in China. It uses a multinomial model approach to establish which drivers of innovation go hand-in-hand with the different innovation strategies. This paper identifies different innovation strategies and forms of innovation that co-emerge as part of this transformation, leading to four firm groups: low-cost producers, technology-oriented producers, user-oriented innovators and technology-oriented innovators. It thus contributes to a more differentiated view of the effects of China's innovation-focused transformation. We find that R&D investments, governmental R&D support and scientific collaborations are key factors to distinguish between the above-mentioned groups.

Abstract:This paper firstly sets up a innovation ability index of Chinese high-tech industry which includes two aspects, inside innovation ability and outside innovation ability. Inside innovation ability include innovation ability of science and technology and innovation ability of industry. Outside innovation ability include support ability of economy and support ability of environment then evaluates on the samples it chooses from two aspects, inside innovation ability and outside innovation ability. The samples are west China, east China and middle China, which is classified by China High-tech Industry Statistical Yearbook 2008. After analysis, the conclusion is that great difference especially regional difference lies in innovation ability of Chinese high-tech industry, east is the best then central and west is the worst. At last it gives some strategic guiding direction for each sample. © 2009 IEEE.
