Abstract:The use of acoustic vortex waves carrying angular momentum is promising for transferring mechanical torque without physical touch. However, existing passive-conversion vortex lenses are unable to deliver powerful acoustic radiation torque to target objects. To address this issue, we propose a flat reflective lens sculptured by spiral grooves, which converts incident waves into vortex-focusing waves capable of generating radiation torque. The reflection-type vortex focusing lens exhibits superior functionality in converging sound waves and creating a stronger intensity flow than the transmission-type lens. In this work, we analyze the passive conversion of vortex-focusing sound by Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integral theory and boundary element simulation, as confirmed by experiments. The grooves' depth, number of spiral grooves and coil direction determine the focusing intensity, topological charge and radiation torque direction, respectively. We evaluate the acoustic radiation forces, including axial force and torque, acting on a fixed spherical target with sound-hard surfaces placed at the center of the vortex-focusing beam. As a result, spinning a centimeter-size origami pinwheel whose size is several times larger than the wavelength at 40kHz is realized without direct contact, utilizing the acoustic radiation torque converged by the reflective lens. This technology enables efficient convergence of sound energy and simultaneous contactless transfer of mechanical torque, thereby presenting potential applications in sound energy harvesting and wireless power supply.
