Abstract:The paper presents a summary of theories on the impact of health on economy and makes an empirical analysis of the impact from three aspects,viz.health and economic development,health and personal income,and health and economic growth.In light of economic development in the past and studies in recent years of the relationship between health human capital,personal income and economic development in micro and macro economics,the paper argues that health human capital has contributed to the rise of personal income by improving individual labor market performance and has directly promoted economic growth by constituting a form of investment.

Abstract:In Economic Development and Transition, renowned development economist Justin Yifu Lin argues that economic performance in developing countries depends largely on government strategy. If the government plays a facilitating role, enabling firms to exploit the economy's comparative advantages, its economy will develop successfully. However, governments in most developing countries attempt to promote industries that go against their comparative advantages by creating various kinds of distortion to protect nonviable firms in priority industries. Failing to recognize the original intention of many distortions, most governments in transition economies attempt to eliminate those distortions without addressing firms' viability problems, causing economic performance to deteriorate in their transition process. Governments in successful transition economies adopt a pragmatic dual-track approach that encourages firms to enter sectors that were suppressed previously and gives necessary support to firms in priority industries before their viability issue is addressed.

Abstract:Introduction: The swift advancement of the digital economy not only plays a crucial role in stimulating a country's economic growth but also exerts a significant influence on national health and well-being. Methods: Adopts the data of 285 prefecture-level cities in China from 2010 to 2022, and employs the panel data fixed-effects model, spatial Durbin model, and mediated effects model to study the impact of digital economic development on the level of urban public health. Results: It is found that digital economic development significantly improves the level of urban public health, and the effect has a spatial spillover effect. The impact of digital economic development on urban public health is mainly concentrated in cities with higher levels of economic development, higher levels of digital economic development, and lower levels of urban public health. Among them, technological innovation and information dissemination are the main dissemination channels through which digital economic development affects the level of urban public health. Discussion: The advancement of the digital economy significantly impacts urban public health. It is advisable to bolster policies guiding digital economy development, enhance cross-sector collaboration between the digital economy and public health, reinforce public health education and awareness campaigns, improve the digital health literacy of the population, continue to enhance the fairness and accessibility of basic medical services, and address and bridge the "digital divide" between regions, as well as urban and rural areas.

Abstract:The relationship between health and economic development is explored focusing on nutrition-based health indicators. The spotlight is placed on the inter-related feedbacks between the influence of health on productivity on one hand and the influence of income on health status on the other. Disentangling causality in these relationships has preoccupied much of the literature; we evaluate different empirical strategies that have been adopted and assess the results. There is now a body of evidence based on careful empirical studies that demonstrates a causal relationship between health and labor productivity; there is also evidence that at least among the very poor additional income is spent on improved nutrition. There are two issues that have received little attention although we argue they are likely to be very important. First measurement of health is discussed in detail. Evidence is presented on how taking into account differences in the extent of measurement error is critical for interpreting the impact of health on wages. The same theme emerges in studies of the effect of income on health (specifically calorie intake). The key role of non-linearities in these relationships is highlighted and we demonstrate that a good deal of the variation in estimates of income elasticities of demand for calories can be ascribed to the role of measurement and functional form. Abstract:The paper reviews the literature on financial development,income distribution and economic growth. It is shown that the relationship between financial development and economic growth is determined by whether or not financial development is conducive to the accumulation of (physical or human) capital and/or to improve allocation of investment. In addition,theory implies that if financial development eases financial constraints of the poor,then it decreases income inequality,in contrast,if it alleviates financial constraints of the rich,then it increases income inequality.

Abstract:This paper provides an historical overview of both the evolution of the economic performance of the developing world and the evolution of economic thought on development policy. The twentieth century was broadly characterized by divergence between high-income countries and the developing world, with only a limited number (less than 10% of the economies in the world) managing to progress out of lower or middle-income status to high-income status. The last decade witnessed a sharp reversal from a pattern of divergence to convergence – particularly for a set of large middle-income countries. The latter phenomenon was also driven by increasing economic ties among developing countries and, on the intellectual scale, increased knowledge generation and sharing among the developing countries. Re-thinking development policy implies confronting these realities: twentieth century economic divergence, the experience of the handful of success stories, and the recent rise of the multi-polar growth world. This paper provides descriptive data and a literature survey to document these trends.

Abstract:Economic growth has been the single biggest contributor to population health since the Industrial Revolution. The growth paradigm, by definition, is dynamic, implying similar diminishing returns on investment at both the macro- and the micro-economic levels. Changes in patterns of health in developing countries, from predominantly microbial-related infectious diseases to lifestyle-related chronic diseases (e.g., obesity, type 2 diabetes) beyond a point of economic growth described as the epidemiologic transition, suggest the start of certain declining benefits from further investment in the growth model. These changes are reflected in slowing improvements in some health indices (e.g., mortality, infant mortality) and deterioration in others (e.g., disability-associated life years, obesity, chronic diseases). Adverse environmental consequences, such as climate change from economic development, are also related to disease outcomes through the development of inflammatory processes due to an immune reaction to new environmental and lifestyle-related inducers. Both increases in chronic disease and climate change can be seen as growth problems with a similar economic cause and potential economic and public health-rather than personal health-solutions. Some common approaches for dealing with both are discussed, with a plea for greater involvement by health scientists in the economic and environmental debates in order to deal effectively with issues like obesity and chronic disease.

Abstract:Following rapid growth, China's economy is entering a period of high-quality economic growth. High-quality economic development has a profound impact on China's current economic development. It can be said that the improvement of economic quality is an inevitable choice for China's new stage of economic development. From this point of view, promoting high-quality economic development has become an important practical issue in my country's current economic and social development. As the integration and innovation of digital technology and taxation, the blessing of digital technology maximizes integration and precision, which can effectively meet the needs of higher stages of economic development. Perfect and inclusive development has become an important support for sustainable and healthy economic development. At present, behind the rapid economic growth, human economic activities have led to the emergence of an ecological and environmental crisis. The growth mode characterized by high input, high consumption support, and high emissions has resulted in insufficient supply of regional ecological and environmental resources, pollution, and damage to the ecological environment and also intensified. Therefore, this paper first examines the concept of digital finance and its enlightenment to economic development, and believes that digital finance has a good role in promoting economic development. Second, an evaluation model for the relationship between environmental environment and economic development is established, and an evaluation index system is obtained. Finally, through the comprehensive evaluation and analysis of economic development and ecological environment, it is concluded that in the era of digital finance, the level of regional economic development has been greatly improved, and my country's regional economic development has been greatly improved, which is significantly faster than my country's ecological environment improvement level.
Will the Economic Growth Benefit Public Health? Health Vulnerability, Urbanization and COVID-19 in the USA.

Abstract:Economic growth has a significant impact on health vulnerability primarily through the process of urbanization. This paper conducts a pioneer study by analyzing the impact of regional economic growth and urbanization on the public health vulnerability in the 51 states and territories of the USA from 2011 to 2018 with a fixed-effect panel data regression model. We construct an epidemiological vulnerability index (EVI) using regional smoking, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension, collect CDC social vulnerability index (SVI) as state-level public health vulnerability status, and use COVID-19 to test the actual effect of health vulnerability. The preliminary results show that higher regional economic growth is related to lower EVI and SVI, while urbanization is positively associated with regional health vulnerability and the severity of COVID-19 from case rate and death rate. Robustness check with unemployment shows the same result. We conclude that economic growth is related to lower public health vulnerability, and urbanization has negative public health benefits. Our finding indicates an urgent need to balance the externalities generated by economic development and urbanization trends on public health vulnerability by promoting reasonable medical resource distribution, health practices and safety, improving social and environmental justice, and other health management measures.

Abstract:Objective:To explore the contribution of economic development and health investment on maternal and child health,and put forward policy advices based on the results.Methods:The panel data of Qinghai,Ningxia,Sichuan and Guizhou in China from 2008 to 2015 were analyzed by panel-data regression method.Results:Both GDP per capital and government investment for maternal and child health had significant effects on maternal mortality rate.Conclusion:Central and local governments should continue to increase maternal and child health investment while maintaining the sound development of local economy.The growth in the maternal and child health investment should be in line with the improvement of local infrastructures,educational level and quality of healthcare.

Abstract:The development of internet information technology has promoted the integration of modern information technology with medical treatment. Chinese interprovincial panel data from 2006 to 2017 are used to study the impact of internet development on the health of Chinese residents. Specifically, this paper builds a system for evaluating four dimensions of internet development (internet popularity, internet infrastructure, internet information resources, and internet applications) and uses the entropy method to calculate and analyze China's internet development level. The OLS, FGLS and IV models are used to analyze the impact of internet development on the health of Chinese residents. The regional heterogeneity of the impact of internet development on the health of Chinese residents is studied in the three major regions, i.e., eastern, central and western China. The transmission mechanisms through which internet development affects residents' health were also investigated. Study results show that the development of the Internet significantly suppresses the mortality rate and improves residents' health. In addition, the development of the Internet can further reduce the mortality rate by promoting the development of science and technology, education, medicine, urbanization and openness.

These economic imbalances have led to significant disparities in educational investment and resource allocation. Education, as a crucial factor in shaping the quality of human resources, begs the question: does the variance in its level further exacerbate regional development gaps, or can economic growth pave the way for educational equity? This paper delves into the intricate interactions and relationships between educational fairness and economic development. Using statistical data from Gansu and Zhejiang provinces as examples, we gain a glimpse into the profound influence of economic development levels on the allocation of educational resources. Regions with more robust economies often boast more comprehensive and advanced educational resources, which are closely linked to factors such as fiscal budgets, social demands, and population structures. Furthermore, this paper explores the reverse effect of educational fairness on economic development. Not only does educational equity enhance the overall quality and productivity of human resources, but it also promotes social mobility and harmony, helping to alleviate societal injustices and class conflicts. The relationship between educational fairness and economic development is intricate yet interconnected.
