Abstract:Currently, machine learning models (MLMs) are used for rapid and accurate prediction of thermal conductivity of energy storage materials. Four MLMs are trained to reveal the relationship between structural features and thermal conductivity of paraffin/EG composite phase change materials (PCMs). Nine structural features, 2D images and thermal conductivity calculated by Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) comprise the dataset. Results show that the calculated thermal conductivity (lambda(c)) of the composites is closely related to the distribution of superfluous paraffin and its relative position with the heat flow direction. The prediction accuracy of four MLMs depends on the distribution of structure features. When lambda(c) = 1.4-2.2 W/(mK), the prediction accuracy is higher than that in the range of lambda(c) < 1.4 W/(mK) because of the high linear correlation between structural features and thermal conductivity. The prediction ability of four MLMs in descending order is multilayer perceptron (MLP) > random forest regression > convolutional neural network > Gaussian process regression. Compared with EMT and LBM, MLP model has better prediction accuracy and faster prediction speed by 3-4 orders of magnitude than that of LBM, which can be used as the best MLM to predict the thermal conductivity of paraffin/EG composite PCMs.
