Abstract:Objective: The features of aging skin vary among populations, and its inheriting patterns for a specific population remains to be elucidated. In this study, we aimed to investigate the aging features of Chinese women and explore the inheriting patterns of skin aging between mothers and daughters. Methods: 87 female subjects aged 30-80 were recruited and analyzed, including 40 pairs of mother and daughter. We assessed the subjects' perceived age and graded the aging traits of the subjects using a modified skin aging assessment scale. Statistical methods were used to analyze the trends of the aging characteristics and the difference between the perceived age groups. By introducing the similarity parameter, we compared whether various skin aging characteristics have similar patterns between mothers and daughters. Results: We discovered that rhytides, laxity, dyschromia, and benign skin tumors became more prevalent during the aging process of Chinese women. The score of dyschromia showed rapid increase before the age of 50 and changed slower after the age of 50, while skin laxity and rhytides significantly increased after the age of 43. We also found that the patterns of skin aging were similar between mother-daughter pairs. Conclusions: Our study systematically characterized the predominant skin aging features of Asian female population and first verified the similarities of skin aging predisposition between mother and daughter. Which might benefit precision treatment or prevention for skin aging.
