Abstract:Abstract Image denoising by deep learning has made great breakthroughs in recent years. However, previous deep learning methods cannot quantitatively control the deviation of the denoised images relative to the initial images, which may smooth the fine structures of small scale and change the original image information. We explore denoising astronomical images by the improved self-supervised neural networks `Self2Self', which can be trained on a single image. In order to control the deviation, we restore the abnormal pixels whose change of the absolute value is greater than a presetting value R after denoising. The value of R is usually less than the noise level of the image. By controlling R, we can obtain denoised images that match the original images to a reasonable requirement. After training, denoising and restoring (abbreviated as TDR-method), the noise level of the line-of-sight solar magnetograms observed by the space-borne Helioseismic Magnetic Imager is improved from about 8 G to 2 G without reducing the temporal and spatial resolutions. Further we denoise galaxy images obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope to demonstrate the universality of the TDR-method, and find that the signals of the galaxy structures are extended to weaker intensity. The TDR-method can make weak signals distinguishable by reducing the noise level, which can be applied to many disciplines.
