Abstract:Session-based recommendation systems face the challenges of limited information and uncertain behavior in predicting desired future actions from anonymous users' historical interactions sequence. Recent advances in neural network-based models have made significant strides in understanding user behavior patterns. Notably, self-attention based and graph neural networks based models have achieved state-of-the-art performance by effectively capturing complex dependencies among items within sessions. However, these models encounter difficulties in simultaneously and accurately capturing sequential and complex dependencies between items owing to a weak correlation between items and their position encoding, limiting their capacity for learning session representation. To address this limitation, we propose Dual Enhanced Cross-dependency Attention Networks for session-based recommendation, denoted as DE-CAN, drawing inspiration from the inherent sequential modeling capabilities of recurrent neural networks variants. Specifically, we integrate the gated recurrent unit and self-attention network with position encoding to capture sequential and global dependencies, respectively. Moreover, we devise dual cross-dependency attention networks, comprising sequential and global dependency priority cross-dependency attention networks, which aim to enrich item transition information and achieve a better session representation for predicting. The former extracts information pertaining to sequential dependencies from users' global dependency patterns, while the latter captures information related to global dependencies from users' sequential patterns. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed model achieves state-of-the-art.
