Abstract:Hydrodynamic experiments have been conducted on flexible rotating and non-rotating pipe (RP-NRP) systems with varying spacing and angle, and the dynamic responses coupling rotation and interference effect are explored. The Strouhal number evolution mechanism for the RP-NRP system is explored in tandem, side-by-side, and staggered arrangements. A novel Strouhal-Reynolds (St-Re) model, which takes into account rotation and interference effects within the subcritical Reynolds range, has been proposed and compared to traditional St-Re relationships. The findings reveal a remarkably strong correlation between the dominant frequency fitting line and the original data across all spacings and angles. St numbers in the tandem system are lower than that of the isolated pipe attributable to the wake feedback inhibition and shadowing effect; those in the side-by-side system consistently exceed that of the isolated pipe as a result of the side-wall effect; those in the staggered system fluctuate significantly between tandem and side-by-side arrangements and are highly sensitive to the incident angle. Traditional St-Re relationships are applied to the flow around a fixed cylinder, with the St number of a vibrating flexible pipe being lower than that of a fixed rigid cylinder. St numbers for flexible pipes accounting rotation and interference effect are lower than those of the non-rotating system. The distribution is more concentrated with a "dumbbell-shaped" pattern within the subcritical Reynolds number range. This range is further divided into interference enhancement and attenuation areas by the proposed StRms curve, and the strong interference enhancement and attenuation regions are identified by Re=6400.
