Abstract:To establish fetal growth velocity references for the Chinese population, and develop a model to calculate the percentile of fetal growth velocity between any to gestational weeks. This was a multicentre, populationā€“based longitudinal cohort study for 9,075 singleton pregnant women with data collected from 24 partner hospitals in 18 provinces of China. We used linear mixed models with cubic splines to model the trajectory of AC, FL, HC, BPD and estimated fetal weight (EFW, calculated by Hadlock formula 3). Fetal growth velocity was obtained by calculating the first derivative of the above model. The fetal growth velocity was not constant or monotonous. The EFW velocity steadily accelerated from 12 weeks, and peaked at 35 weeks with a maximum velocity of 211.71 g/week, and then steadily decreased to 40 gestational weeks. BPD and HC peaked at 13 weeks, AC peaked at 14 weeks and FL peaked at 15 weeks. BPD and HC experienced a second acceleration from 19 to 24 and 19 to 21 weeks, respectively. After the vertex, the velocity of four ultrasound anthropometric parameters continued to decrease steadily to 40 gestational weeks. We have established fetal growth references by calculating the first derivative of the fetal growth curves and developed a model to calculate the percentile of fetal growth velocity between any two gestational weeks.
