Abstract:Population aging is the most salient demographic result of the change in the age structure of the population, and the determination of the definition of the elderly will, to a large extent, affects the judgment of the change in the age structure of the population, and directly affects the social and economic development through the labor market and other systems or policy arrangements. Population aging has become an irreversible global demographic development trend of population development, and huge number of the elderly population, rapid aging process, and significant regional and urban-rural differences are the most important features of China’s population aging. The definition and classification basis of the elderly should be dynamically adjusted, so as to avoid over-interpreting the changes in the age structure of the population, fully understand the human resources contained in the elderly population, and actively promote the broad socio-economic participation of the elderly.
