Abstract:This two-volume set LNCS 11446 and LNCS 11447 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 24th International Conference on Database Systems for Advanced Applications, DASFAA 2019, held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, in April 2019. Abstract:The series of Australasian Database Conference is an annual forum for exploring novel technical developments and applications of database systems. The 20th Australasian Database Conference, ADC 2009, is held in Wellington, New Zealand, as part of Australasian Computer Science Week. ADC 2009 invited submissions of original contributions in all research areas of databases and its applications. The program committee received forty three submissions of full research papers; each was thoroughly reviewed by at least three PC members or external reviewers. Seventeen papers have been selected for presentation at the conference. In addition, the program committee invited two prominent researchers, Dr. Dimitrios Georgakopoulos (CSIRO) and Dr. Heng Tao Shen (UNSW) for the traditional ADC invited talks.

Abstract:The application of Data Mining (DM) technologies has shown an explosive growth in an increasing number of different areas of business, government and science. Two of the most important business areas are finance, in particular in banks and insurance companies, and e-business, such as web portals, e-commerce and ad management services. In spite of the close relationship between research and practice in Data Mining, it is not easy to find information on some of the most important issues involved in real world application of DM technology, from business and data understanding to evaluation and deployment. Papers often describe research that was developed without taking into account constraints imposed by the motivating application. When these issues are taken into account, they are frequently not discussed in detail because the paper must focus on the method. Therefore knowledge that could be useful for those who would like to apply the same approach on a related problem is not shared. The papers in this book address some of these issues. This book is of interest not only to Data Mining researchers and practitioners, but also to students who wish to have an idea of the practical issues involved in Data Mining.

Abstract:The purpose of the 7th International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS) was to bring together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the advances and business applications of information systems. Five simultaneous tracks have been held, covering different aspects of Enterprise Information Systems Applications, including Enterprise Database Technology, Systems Integration, Artificial Intelligence, Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Analysis and Specification, Internet Computing, Electronic Commerce and Human Factors. ICEIS focuses on real world applications: therefore authors were asked to highlight the benefits of Information Technology for industry and services. During the conference there was an interesting debate on how to solve business problems, using IT. Paper presentations included the description of advanced prototypes, systems, tools and techniques as well as general surveys indicating future directions for information systems and technologies. Papers included in the book are the best papers presented at the ICEIS 2005 conference.

Abstract:Metadata enrichment through text mining techniques is becoming one of the most significant tasks in digital libraries. Due to the exponential increase of open access publications, several new challenges have emerged. Raw data are usually big, unstructured, and come from heterogeneous data sources. In this paper, we introduce a text analysis framework implemented in extended SQL that exploits the scalability characteristics of modern database management systems. The purpose of this framework is to provide the opportunity to build performant end-to-end text mining pipelines which include data harvesting, cleaning, processing, and text analysis at once. SQL is selected due to its declarative nature which offers fast experimentation and the ability to build APIs so that domain experts can edit text mining workflows via easy-to-use graphical interfaces. Our experimental analysis demonstrates that the proposed framework is very effective and achieves significant speedup, up to three times faster, in common use cases compared to other popular approaches.

Abstract:This book comprises an edited version of the Proceedings of the 2nd Interna tional Conference on Applications of Supercomputers in Engineering which took place at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, USA during August 1991. The Conference was organized by the Wessex Insti tute of Technology, Southampton, UK with the support of the International Society for Boundary Elements. The first International Conference on Ap plications of Supercomputers in Engineering held in Southampton, UK in September 1989 was a very successful meeting and the resulting Conference Proceedings are now widely distributed throughout the world. The revolutionary aspects of the next generation of computers are now fully recognised by many engineers and scientists. Vector and parallel computers form the basis of the computing power needed to address the complex prob lems with which engineers are faced. The new machines not only increase the size of the problems which can be solved, but also require a different computational approach to obtain the most efficient results.
