Abstract:A novel nonlinear optical complex crystal with an organic ligand coordinated through an O atom: tetrathiocyanatocadmiummercury-dimethyl sulfoxide, [CdHg(SCN)(4)(H6C2OS)(2)] (CMTD) is reported for the first time. Single crystals have been grown by temperature-lowering method, the crystal structure has been determined, and some physical properties are given. The relations between the crystal structure and nonlinear optical properties are also discussed.

Abstract:The title compound [NEt(4)](3)[WOS3(CuI)(3)(mu(2)-I)]. H2O has been synthesized by the reaction of(NH4)(2)WO2S2, CuI and Et(4)NI. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction data show that the anionic cluster [WOS3(CuI)(3)(mu(2)-I)](3-) has a half-open cage structure. Nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of the cluster were investigated with a pulsed laser at 532 nm. The cluster exhibits strong NLO absorption and a self-defocusing effect (effective non-linear absorption coefficient, n(2)(eff) = -5.0 x 10(-18) m(2) W-1; effective nonlinear refractive index, alpha a(2)(eff) = 1.0 x 10(-10) mW(-1), when measured for a 2.3 x 10(-4) mol dm(-3) aceronitriie solution). The corresponding effective NLO susceptibility [chi(eff)((3))] of the cluster is 2.6 x 10(-10) esu. The NLO properties of the cluster were compared with those of two analogues, [NEt(4)](3)[WOS3(CuBr)(3)(mu(2)-Br)]. 2H(2)O and [Et(4)N](3)[MoOS3(CuBr)(3)(mu(2)-Br)]. 2H(2)O.

Abstract:The title cluster compound [WS4Cu3Br(bipy)(2)] has been synthesized by the reaction of (NH4)(2)[WS4], CuBr and 2, 2'-bipy in DMF solution. Single crystal X-ray diffraction data show that the compound has a nest-shaped structure. Nonlinear optical properties (NLO) of the cluster were investigated by a Z-scan technique with a pulsed laser at 532nm. The cluster exhibits the strong NLO absorption and a self-defocusing effect (effective non-linear absorption coefficient, alpha(2)(eff) = 7.3 x 10(-11)mW(-1); effective non-linear refractive index, n(2)(eff) = 3.9 x 10(-11) esu) when measured in a 6.0 x 10(-4)mol (.) dm(-3) DMF solution.

Abstract:A new 3D polymeric inorganic cluster with Cu in mixed-valence states was synthesized by the solid-state reaction of (NH4)2WS4, S8, CuCl, and Et4NCl; S8 may be regarded as the oxidizing agent converting Cu(I) to Cu(II) and causing the polymerization of [WS4]2-. The third-order nonlinear optical (NLO) properties are determined, and the results show that the cluster exhibits both large NLO absorptive and strong refractive behaviors.

Abstract:The self-assembly reaction of a multinodal preformed cluster with 1,2-di(pyridin-4-yl)ethane as the organic ligand afforded the 2D cluster polymer (1), {[(WS4Cu4)I2(dpe)2](DMF)4}n. There is a cavity between each two nearby dpe ligands in 1. The [WS4Cu4]2+ units are fixed by I− ions, which is attributed to the multinodal feature of the W–S–Cu secondary building units, and therefore, the cavities in 1 are settled. The NLO properties show that 1 exhibits an optical self-focusing behavior and reverse saturable absorption effects. This work provides us with useful clues to further explore the 2D W–Cu–S-based cluster polymer with cavities.

Abstract:The compounds [(n-Bu)4N]3[MoS4Ag3Cl4] (1) and [Et4N]3[WOS3Cu3I4] (2) were synthesized and characterized. Compound 1 crystallizes in the rhombohedral system, space group R3c with a = 17.194(1), b = 17.194(1), c = 39.194(3)A, Z = 6, V = 10034.7(11)A3. Compound 2 crystallizes in the rhombohedral system, space group R3c with a = 14.461(2), b = 14.461(2), c = 34.952(2)A, Z = 6, V = 6329.9(13)A3. The X-ray crystallographic structure determinations show that these two cluster compounds consist of a slightly distorted cubic core. Nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of these two clusters were investigated by using Z-scan techniques with an 8 ns pulsed laser at 532 nm; both clusters exhibit strong nonlinear optical absorption effect (effective α2 = 1.18 × 10—10 m · W—1 for 1 and 1.0 × 10—10 m · W—1 for 2). Investigation of third-order optical nonlinearity using the Z-scan technique shows that the cluster compound exhibits good nonlinear properties with alpha(2) values of 1.23 x 10(-10) m w(-1) and n(2) values of -9.3 x 10(-18) m(2) w(-1) respectively.

Abstract:The title compounds [MS4Cu4(SCN)2(NC5H5)6] (M=W (1); M=Mo (2); NC5H5=pyridine) were obtained by the reaction of (NH4)2MS4, CuSCN, KSCN and pyridine. The X-ray analyses of 1 and 2 show that four edges of the tetrahedral MS42− core are coordinated by four copper atoms, giving an MS4Cu4 aggregate of approximate D2h symmetry. The nonlinear optical properties of 1 and 2 were investigated by a Z-scan technique with 7 ns laser pulses of 532 nm. The third-order nonlinearities were determined with α2=4.3×10−5 and 4.1×10−5 cm W−1 M−1; and n2=−4.3×10−10 and −4.1×10−10 cm2 W−1 M−1, respectively, for compounds 1 and 2.

Abstract:Cluster polymers {[MoOS3Cu3(CN)(py)(3)]. 0.5C(6)H(6)}(n) 1 and [WOS3Cu3(CN)(py)(4)](n) 2 were synthesized by the reaction of (NH4)(2)MO2S2 (M = Mo, W) and CuCN with py. Their structures have been characterized by X-ray diffraction. Both of them show neutral nest-shaped structural units, and every structural unit forms two Cu1-N1-C1-Cu3 bridges with two other structural units leading to infinite one-dimensional polymers. In every unit cell of {[MoOS3Cu3(CN)(py)(3)]. 0.5C(6)H(6)}(n) there are four [MoOS3Cu3(CN)(py)(3)] structural units and two benzene molecules, and the four structural units are from four independent linear polymer molecules which are parallel. In every unit cell of polymer 2, there are four [WOS3Cu3(CN)(py)(4)] structural units too, but they are only from two parallel linear polymer molecules. Polymer 1 shows good nonlinear optical (NLO) absorptive and NLO refractive properties, whereas strong NLO properties of polymer 2 are not observed.

Abstract:The title compounds {MS4[Cu(p-MeOC6H4)3P]2}·0.5C6H12 [M=Mo (1) or W (2)] were synthesized for non-linear optical studies by a solid state reaction of (NH4)2MS4, CuI and (p-MeOC6H4)3P. A single crystal X-ray analysis reveals that 1 possesses a linear skeleton with a Mo center slightly distorted from tetrahedron and two Cu centers distorted from trigonal planar. The non-linear optical properties of 1 were investigated by the Z-scan and picosecond time-resolved pump-probe measurements at 532 nm. The results obtained revealed that thermally induced non-linear effect was dominant in the nanosecond time-scale while stimulated Rayleigh-wing scattering was observed in the picosecond measurement. Its non-linear refractive index was determined to be −3.52×10−17 m2 W−1 for nanosecond time-scale and 4.32×10−19 m2 W−1. Nonlinear optical properties of compound 2 were investigated at same condition similar to 1, no non-linear optical behavior was observed for 2, although it might have a similar structure to that of compound 1.
Revealing the Competition Between Defect‐Trapped Exciton and Band‐Edge Exciton Photoluminescence in Monolayer Hexagonal WS2

Abstract:Monolayer transition‐metal dichalcogenides grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) always contain certain types of defects that dramatically affect their electronic and optical properties. For CVD‐grown hexagonal WS2 monolayer, complex photoluminescence (PL) patterns are commonly observed, but the defect‐related optical mechanisms are still not well understood. Here, by combining the optical and structural characterizations and ab initio calculations, the correlation between the patterned PL emission and the details of defects in CVD‐grown hexagonal WS2 monolayer are revealed. The temperature‐dependent PL spectra show the correlation between the defect‐trapped and band‐edge exciton emission. The high‐resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy identifies the positive correlation between the density of WSx‐vacancy and PL intensity. In the end, the ab initio calculations and molecule adsorption PL spectra show that the coexistence of p‐ and n‐doping effects, caused by the W and S complex vacancy, weakens the modulation of molecular adsorption on PL intensity. This work gives new insights into the origin of the inhomogeneous PL distribution in WS2 monolayer, which provides important guidance in the regulation of electronic and optical properties of transition‐metal dichalcogenides via defect engineering.

Abstract:The Cluster compound [Cu3BrWOS3(bipy)(2)] was synthesized by reaction of (NH4)(2)WOS3, CuBr, 2, 2'-bipyridine and n-Bu4NBr at room temperature and characterized by IR, UV and elemental analyses. The structure of [Cu3BrWOS3(bipy)(2)] was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction revealing that the cluster consist of a nest -shaped core. The W atom is tetrahedrally coordinated by three S atoms and one O atom. There are two types of copper atoms in the WOS3Cu3 aggregate: two copper atoms are tetrahedrally coordinated and another copper atom is trigonally coordinated. The nonlinear optical properties were studied with an 8ns pulsed laser at 532nm. Its optical responses to the incident light exhibit considerably optical absorptive and strong self-focusing effect with alpha(2) 0.90x10(-10)m (.) W-1, n(2) = 2.72x10(-18)m(2) (.) W-1. CCDC: 196348.

Abstract:The complex of [Cd (C5H6O4) (CH4N2S)(2)](n) (I) has been synthesized and its X-ray crystal structure determined at room temperature, M = 394.74, monoclinic, space group Pc (No. 7), with lattice parameters a = 7.683(3), b = 11.566, c = 16.00(1) Angstrom, beta = 100.32(4)degrees, and Z = 4. There are two different Cd sites in this complex. Cd (1) coordinates to four oxygen atoms from Glutaric anion and two sulfide atoms from thiourea. Cd (2) coordinates to three oxygen and two sulfide atoms. The Cd atoms are linked by glutaric anion to form one-dimensional chains. The adjacent chains are held together by hydrogen bonds to form a three dimensional network.

Abstract:A novel cluster WCu2S4(dPPf)(2).4DMF was synthesized by the reaction of(NH4)(2)WS4 with CuCl and 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene (dppf) in the solid state. and its crystal structure has been characterized by X-ray diffraction. The cluster has a novel new skeletal structure with five metal atoms nearly in a line. Investigation of third-order optical nonlinear z-scan shows that it exhibits good nonlinear optical properties in a 1.2 x 10(-4) mol.dm(-3) DMF solution.

Abstract:The title compound [MoS4Cu3(dppm)(3)][BF4]]. 2H(2)O (dppm = Ph2PCH2PPh2) was synthesized for nonlinear optical studies by the reaction of (Et4N)(2)MoS4 and [Cu-2(dppm)(2)(MeCN)(4)][BF4](2) in CH3CN solution. Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed that three copper atoms and the MoS42- form a distorted 'flywheel' array with W-Cu separations of 2.7754(14), 2.792(2) and 2.820 (2) Angstrom. The third-order nonlinear optical properties were investigated by a Z-scan technique with 7 ns laser pulses at 532 nm. Abstract:The heterobimetallic, polymeric compound has been synthesized by the reaction of (NH4)(2)WS4 and AgBr with n-Bu4NBr in CH2Cl2 solution under a purified nitrogen atmosphere using standard Schlenk techniques. The crystals were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The polymeric anion has a hanging ladder-like polymeric chain which can also be described as double helical chains bridged by silver atoms. Its non-linear optical properties (NLO) were investigated using Z-scan techniques with an 8 ns pulsed laser at 532 nm, and the cluster also exhibits both strong non-linear optical absorption and an optical self-defocusing effect (effective alpha2 = 1.11 x 10(-10) m W-1, eta(2) = 3.67 x 10(-18) m(2) W-1, when measured with a 1.2 x 10(-4) mol dm(-3) DMF suspension).
