Abstract:Film and game integration is a new phenomenon in today's multimedia era, and Hollywood science fiction films become a good carrier for the use of game elements with advanced production technology and virtual visual presentation. Based on current research, this paper uses the method of image analysis to explore the use of game rule elements and goal elements in two representative science fiction films, namely, Ready Player One and Free Guy. It looks into the formulaic effect of the rule elements on films world construction and their innovativeness in terms of humanistic worldviews. Furthermore, it considers the set of layered characteristics of the goal elements in the films narrative structures, especially the infinite narrative. Finally, by analyzing the individual cases of the two films and reflecting critically on the presentation of the films, it is concluded that in order to realize the integration of film, game and audience, the wide dissemination of the game spirit, and the subversion and reconstruction of the video world, it is necessary to make trade-offs and innovations. Directly using game elements gives positive inspiration for the creation of future film-game fusion works.

Abstract:As a kind of visual communication art, a movie is a product of the fusion of modern science and technology and art, as well as a medium for reflecting social phenomena and spreading multiculturalism. The mainstream Hollywood films naturally represent the ideological characteristics and value orientation of the field or country it belongs to. As a heterogeneous culture, Chinese elements in Hollywood movies have experienced a long and tortuous change, which is not only related to the enhancement of China's comprehensive national power and the change of international relations, but also inextricably linked to the Western core cultural values behind Hollywood. The overall change of the image of Chinese elements in Hollywood movies can be summarized as a shift from negative stereotypes to the inclusion of Chinese characteristic elements and the gradual export of Chinese stories and culture, showing a positive and diversified development trend, and behind this trend change is the refraction and effect of cross-cultural communication between Chinese and Western.

Abstract:In recent years,a series of adaptation,remaking phenomena are becoming popular.Some old TV series,old songs and earlier literary masterpieces are adapted to cater to the aesthetic requirement of the young generation with the ultimate goal of maximizing market share.The adaptation seems to have renovated those classic works of art to a new life.However,most of the adaptation fails to inherit the spirit of the original and to reflect a truly modern spirit.The priority of adaptation is given to the reorientation of the classic works of art to the mentality of current audience while the inheritance and improvement of classic works of art take a back seat.Such interaction between adapters and audience only leads to declination of classic works of art.

Abstract:The military art of Ancient China, which was developed on the basis of the military-theoretical heritage of Sun Tzu, Wu Tzu, contains many examples of achieving victory in war through military cunning, improving tactical techniques of armed struggle, as well as information and psychological impact on the enemy’s troops and population. The era of the Three Kingdoms in the history of China occupies a relatively short period of time – 220–280 A.D., however, the qualitative characteristics of the military aspect deserve special attention. The mili-tary leadership abilities of Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang, Sima Yi and other commanders clearly demonstrate the pro-gress in the development of strategy and tactics, military engineering construction of the Celestial Empire. Along with land forces, consisting of infantry and cavalry, there is a river flotilla, capable of solving problems of a strategic nature. The confrontation of the three kingdoms is reflected in the historical chronicles of Chen Shou, the epic of Luo Guan-zhong, numerous studies by Chinese and foreign experts. Sun Tzu’s recommen-dations and instructions were applied in the United States to wage psychological warfare against Russia.

Abstract:This article looks at the influence of ancient military thinkers, especially Sunzi, in Chinese strategic culture today to shed light on a critical aspect of Alastair Iain Johnston's work on strategic culture: the relationship between the foreign policy elites and the cultural artefacts and symbols at the origin of strategic culture. The empirical analysis revolves around a large number of articles published by Chinese military scholars and officers between 1992 and early 2016 in the PLA Academy of Military Science's journal, China Military Science. The conclusion is that some elements of Chinese ancient military thought are readily apparent in China's military doctrine and operations today. These elements clearly call for a realist vision of the world, especially within the PLA. Yet, the analysis also prompts reflection on how to positively engage China on non-traditional security issues.

Abstract:Along with the market-oriented development of the Chinese economy in the reform-era, the country’s once highly-political revolutionary arts and cultural realm has been transformed into commercialised mass culture. Specifically, the accelerated market-oriented restructuring of the Chinese film industry since 2000 has turned China into the world’s second largest film market. At the same time, it has also led to the recent emergence of domestic commercial blockbusters that both bolster official values and enjoy successful market returns. Encompassing titles such as Wolf Warrior II (2017), Operation Red Sea (2018), The Wandering Earth (2019) and My People, My Country (2019), these films, not short of spectacular Hollywood-calibre visual effects, express the culture self-confidence of a rising Chinese nation as they reflect the cultural taste of a rapidly expanding new Chinese film audience.

Abstract:This study explores the evolution of the new century film from martial arts to the new mainstream film blockbuster era. Firstly, the article reviews the heyday of martial arts films and their influence on film industry and culture. Then, it studies the transformation and evolution of martial arts films in the new century and the background of the rise of new mainstream films in this period. Subsequently, the article analyzes the characteristics and value orientation of the new mainstream blockbuster, as well as the fusion and difference between martial arts and the new mainstream. Furthermore, the audience and market performance of the two film styles and the influence of technological progress on martial arts and new mainstream films are studied. Finally, the article discusses the roles and challenges of directors and producers in the transformation of film style. This research reveals the evolution and diversification of the film industry in the new century, as well as the interaction and development between different film genres.
Rebuilding the Symbolic Boundaries between the East and West: Occidentalism in The Battle at Lake Changjin

Abstract:. The article explores the concept of Occidentalism and its portrayal in the recent Chinese blockbuster film, The Battle at Lake Changjin . The author contends that the movie represents a resurgence of Occidentalism in Chinese popular cinema, reinforcing the East-West binary and promoting a narrative of Chinese superiority. The discussion begins by contextualizing the historical origins of the East-West binary and its role in shaping Western identities and justifying practices like colonialism. The article also highlights the intricate complexities and contradictions within the film, as well as its implications for China’s cultural and political landscape, specifically the shift in China’s attitude towards the West during President Xi Jinping’s tenure. The article emphasizes the growing closure of the Chinese mindset, exemplified by the adoption of “wolf-warrior diplomacy” and the portrayal of the West as an adversary in the media. Abstract:Abstract Movies are often viewed as important tools to promote cultural communication. Many international moviegoers and researchers endorse Chinese movies as authentic representation of traditional Chinese history and culture. However, in this era of commercialism, movies are often produced as commercial products to win the maximum profits at global market; thus, the history and culture in Chinese movies are often reshaped and reconfigured to meet the taste of foreign moviegoers. This paper uses Judou (1990), Inkstone Bed (1995) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), three movies shot in Huizhou, a land known for its profound traditional culture, as a case study to explore how and why traditional culture is reshaped and reconfigured. The results show that those three movies diverge from traditional culture in one way or another. The distortion or stigmatization of Huizhou culture in Judou and Inkstone Bed caters to global audience’s preconceived notion of a corrupted and chaotic “ancient China.” Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon transcends local settings to address cross-cultural and multinational themes. With a diversity of cultural elements hybridized and well-attuned, it sets a good example for Chinese movies to win global recognition and commercial success worldwide.
Chinese Values in The Wandering Earth II: A Case Study Analysis

Abstract:The Wandering Earth is a Chinese science fiction film released in January 2023. Using Hollywoods industrialised films as a model, the film was a practice for gaining overseas box office market, but the result was not ideal. This research employs the case study method to explore how Chinese values are integrated into the film from the filmmakers perspective. It decomposes the movie into three parts: geographical space, characterisation, and storyline structuring to analyse the effects of Chinese values and uncover the reasons behind the distinct Chinese characteristics portrayed in this film. According to the research, Gwos team manipulated contemporary Chinese multipolarity, the Confucian concept of universal harmony and traditional family-state values to illustrate a global field with Chinese logic. Secondly, they utilised images of Chinese-style heroes driven by moral principles and collectivism in Chinese values. Furthermore, the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind served as a catalyst for the films premise. Subsequently, the Chinese homeland complex, calamity concept, and pragmatism were woven into the storys framework, which inevitably sinicises the narratives. This research holds significance for future Chinese films involved in cross-cultural communication, as it sheds light on the origins of cultural misunderstanding and barriers.

The integration of its animation special effects enhances the visual impact of the film and makes it easier to resonate with the audience. Movies that use three-dimensional animation special effects have a more prominent performance in both visual effects and artistic expression. Taking the film Avatar as an example, this study is committed to providing a reference for the research of three-dimensional animation effects in Chinese film and television works through the analysis of the practical application effects of three-dimensional animation effects. Three dimensional technology provides technical support for film and television special effects, which has achieved unprecedented development. It combines reality with virtualization, brings virtualization to the screen, and then presents it to the audience, contributing to the progress of Chinese film and television art.
