Abstract:This paper presents an approach of implementing the frequency spectral analysis with multiresolution technique. Both FFT and wavelet analysis are used in order to generate the spectrum with a- logarithmic-style resolution distribution. The algorithm, computational efficiency and memory storage efficiency are discussed in detail.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the multiresolution analysis generated by finite scaling functions φ 1 , φ 2 ,... , φ, r in L 2 ( R ). We also consider the direct wavelet decomposition and direct wavelet packet decomposition in L 2 ( R ). Besides, we obtain some results about (dual) nonorthogonal wavelet packet as well as the stability of the basis generating the packet. At last, we give an example of nonorthogonal wavelet packets of multiplicity r by using fractal interpolation functions.

Abstract:In this paper, a new method is presented for designing M-band biorthogonal symmetric wavelets. The design problem of biorthogonal linear-phase scaling filters and wavelet filters as a quadratic programming problem with the linear constraints is formulated. The closed-form solution is given and a design example is presented.

Abstract:Wavelet analysis has become a developing branch of mathematics for over twenty years. In this paper, the notion of matrix-valued multiresolution analysis of space L-2(R-3,C-rxr) is introduced. A method for constructing biorthogonal matrix valued trivariate wavelet packets is developed and their properties are discussed by means of time-frequency analysis method, matrix theory and functional analysis method. Three biorthogonality formulas concerning these wavelet packets are provided. Finally, new Riesz bases of space L-2(R-3,C-rxr) is obtained by constructing a series of subspaces of biorthogonal matrix-valued wavelet packets.

Abstract:It is well-known that the different kinds of multiresolution analysis (MRA) structures generate different wavelets. In this paper, we give two uniform formulas on the number of mother functions for various wavelets associated with MRA structures. These formulas show that the number of mother functions of wavelets is determined by the support of the Fourier transform of the scaling function in MRA structure.

Abstract:The symmetric biorthogonal low-pass filters of 4-band and the corresponding scaling functions are constructed by using the sum rules.Also,the symmetric or anti-symmetric biorthogonal wavelet filters of 4-band with high order vanishing moment and short support are obtained.Especially,the coefficients of filter constructed are all rational numbers and their denominators are all binary.Therefore,it is very convenient for these filters to be applied.At last,the smoothness index of the scaling functions constructed can be estimated by the method of Hanbin.

Abstract:We characterize scaling functions of nonstationary matrix-valued multiresolution analysis in the matrix-valued function space , l is a natural number. This is inspired by the work of Novikov, Protasov and Skopina on nonstationary multiresolution analysis of the space . Using a sequence of diagonal matrix-valued scaling functions in , the construction of matrixvalued nonstationary orthonormal wavelets associated with the affine group is presented. Nonstationary matrix-valued wavelet frames in terms of frames of closed subspaces associated with a given nonstationary multiresolution analysis are given. Finally, we give sufficient conditions for the sequence of scaling functions of nonstationary matrix-valued multiresolution analysis in the frequency domain.

Abstract:This paper studies the application of wavelet theory in seismic modeling. The motivation of this work is to develop a numerical method, which an dynamically adapt computationally grid to local structures of the wave solution. Until now, however, the conventional numerical methods such as finite difference method, finite element method and pseudo spectral method can not dynamically adapt computationally grid to local feature of wave solution. Good wavelet locallzation properties in physical and wavenumber spaces are to be contrasted with the spectral approach, which employs infinitely differentiable functions but with global support and small discrete changes in the resolution. On the other hand, finite difference and finite element methods use bases with small compact support but poor continuity properties. Through thresholding, the multiresolution representation of seismic data is very sparse with little damage to the main information of the earth. Based on the above mentioned facts, this paper represents the matrix form of sonic wave equation in the frame of wavelet multiresolution analysis. Through the multiresolution decomposition and compression of operator matrix and seismic wave field matrix, we proposed a new method of seismic modeling in wavelet domain.

Abstract:Proposes a multiscale approach for nonlinear dynamic system identification. Based on wavelet multiresolution analysis theory, model parameters are estimated step by step from coarse to finer scales. Some criteria and empirical formulae are discussed that explain how to select initial scale, approximating resolution and size of identification samples. Further, the fundamental frame and identification algorithms of the proposed method are described. The computing complexity and local maximum of neural network methods can be avoided. Finally, the convergence and precision of the identification algorithm are analyzed. The simulating case study on a nonlinear dynamic system shows the high efficiency and effectiveness of this methodology.

Abstract:We investigate the measures of frequency bands of scaling functions and wavelets, and solve an open problem. Furthermore, we give conditions for which the measures of frequency bands of scaling functions are less than 8@p3 and the measures of frequency bands of wavelets are less than 4@p. We also discuss the densities around the origin and the diameters of frequency bands of scaling functions and wavelets, and show that there are essential differences between the single and multidimensional cases.

Abstract:The principle of wavelet transformation used to eliminate white noise is analyzed and it is tested that this method is not perfect in case of non-white noise.Combined with robust statistics,a robust wavelet transformation which can restrain the disturbance with contaminated distribution is studied to provide a practical multiscale robust filtering method.The result of simulation shows that this method is robust and effecient.

Abstract:A novel method of identifying the fractal scaleless range is proposed,which is fundamental in fractal signal processing.The method is based on the multi-scales differential property of the wavelet transform and the wavelet transform modulus maxima(WTMM) technique;By multi-scale identifying the exact position of the systematic bending,the scaleless range can be quickly,correctly and adaptively determined.The simulation test shows that the method is efficient.

Abstract:A pulse response identification approach based on orthonormal scaling transformation and non-(orthonormal) wavelet as basis functions is proposed. Wavelet function expansion is applied to express the pulse (response) function. The random noises of systems are shown to be restrained effectively through orthonormal scaling transformation, and estimation precision is improved. An application example shows a satisfactory identification (result) and feasibility of the method.

Abstract:This article will start from the fundamental theory of wavelet Multiresolution Analysis and provide a brief summary of the advantages and limitations of various numerical methods based on wavelet bases. The objective of this article is to assist researchers in choosing the appropriate numerical methodologies for their particular physical issues. Furthermore, it will explore prospective advancements in wavelet‐based techniques, offering valuable insights for researchers committed to enhancing wavelet numerical methods in the field of computational physics. The quantitative study of many physical problems ultimately boils down to solving various partial differential equations (PDEs). Wavelet analysis, known as the "mathematical microscope", has been hailed for its excellent Multiresolution Analysis (MRA) capabilities and its basis functions that possess various desirable mathematical qualities such as orthogonality, compact support, low‐pass filtering, and interpolation. These properties make wavelets a powerful tool for efficiently solving these PDEs. Over the past 30 years, numerical methods such as wavelet Galerkin methods, wavelet collocation methods, wavelet finite element methods, and wavelet integral collocation methods have been proposed and successfully applied in the quantitative analysis of various physical problems. Abstract:In this paper we explore the hierarchical structures of wavelets, and use them for solving the linear systems which arise in the discretization of the wavelet-Galerkin method for elliptic problems. It is proved that the condition number of the stiffness matrix with respect to the wavelet bases grows like O(log2 H/h) in two dimensions, and the condition number of the wavelet preconditioning system is bounded by O(log2 H/h) in d dimensions, instead of O(h-2) if the scaling function bases are used.

Abstract:In subband image and video compression, the issue of dyadic spatial scalability with a downsizing ratio of 2:1 has already been widely investigated. In some application scenarios, however, other downsizing ratios can be desirable. This paper proposes a wavelet coding scheme to support non-dyadic spatial scalability. By extending lifting-based transform structure, we show how wavelet transform can directly support non-dyadic spatial scalability. Specially, based on the extended lifting framework, a wavelet transform is designed to decompose an image with size 3W×3H to a low-pass subband with size 2W×2H and three high-pass subbands to support 3:2-ratio spatial scalability. The characteristic of proposed wavelet low-pass filter is investigated and experimental results show that the low resolution image produced by our scheme has good quality while the coding performance just has marginal loss compared to Daubechies 9/7 filter.
