Abstract:Objective To explore the epidemic characteristics of bacillary dysentery in Jiangsu province from 2004 to 2010 and to provide scientific basis for formulating prevention and control strategies.Methods Retrospective analysis was carried on surveillance data of bacillary dysentery in Jiangsu province from 2004 to 2010,Linear regression was performed to analyze the incidence and constituent ratio through the SPSS 11.5 statistical software.Results The annual average incidence of bacillary dysentery was 17.40 per 100 000,which showed a degressive trend year after year.The epidemic of this disease reached peak between June and September each year.The incidence of bacillary dysentery in developed areas of southern Jiangsu was higher than that in other developing areas of northern Jiangsu.Children under 5 years old had the highest incidence.The proportion of male to female was 1∶0.79.With regard to occupational distribution,scattered children,peasants,students and workers were the major infected population.The detection rate of Shigella Flexneri gradually decreased,while Shigella Sonnei increased gradually.Meantime,the predominant serotypes of Shigella Flexneri were also continually changing each year.Conclusion The incidence rate of bacillary dysentery kept in a relatively low level in Jiangsu province,but prevention and control of bacillary dysentery is still facing a challenge because of widespread epidemic factors and continuous diversification of bacterial epidemic types.

Abstract:To understand the epidemics of the Rice stripe virus (RSV), a destructive disease transmitted by the rice small brown planthopper (SBPH) Laodelphax striatellus Fllen, in the japonica rice production region in Hang-Jia-Hu Plain of northern Zhejiang Province, China, seasonal sampling on the incidence of the disease and population dynamics of the vector in the fields, susceptibility assessment of seedlings at different ages, rice varietal resistance evaluation, detection of viruliferous rate of the vector by biochemical and bioassay were used. Field sampling indicated that the incidence of the disease had been increasing significantly in recent years. The vector planthopper occurs 5-6 generations in a year. The adults of the locally overwintered and the first generations of the planthopper were the main vectors of the virus which caused the disease during the seedling stage in nursery and earlier stages in the field. Rice seedlings at the stages of 2-leaf to 4-leaf were the most vulnerable stages, and therefore were the crucial period for the control of the disease. The grand mean viruliferous rate (transmission rate) of the overwintered vector in 2006 was 4.42%, increased by 34.4% from 2.9% in 2005 in three districts (Jiaxing, Huzhouand Shaoxing) of the province, with a large variation among districts. Rice japonica varieties (breeding lines) Xiuyou 5, Jiayou 1, etc. were highly susceptible, while Zheda 532, Chunjiang 050, etc. were less susceptible, and HZ586 was more resistant to the disease. Integrated analysis showed that cropping system change, cultivation of susceptible varieties, warming winter -spring climate which was favorite to the overwintering planthoppers, and the decreased efficacy of the main insecticides for controlling the vector were the major factors causing the epidemics of the disease. The essential data on geographical distribution of the disease transmission rate of the vector, rice variety resistance to the disease were accumulated. Based on analysis of the main causes of disease outbreaks, the key measurements on avoidance of these factors with integration of other information were proposed to prevent the disease epidemics.
Public awareness of three major infectious diseases in rural Zhejiang province, China: a cross-sectional study

Abstract:Background This study aimed to investigate the level of awareness of and factors associated with major infectious diseases in rural China and to provide the most recent baseline data for the prevention and control of these diseases. Methods This cross-sectional study was carried out in Zhejiang province between December 2010 and April 2011. Participants were recruited from 36 villages and interviewed by doctors from the community health service using a structured questionnaire. Results The study sample consisted of 36,377 subjects aged 15 to 80 years old. Study results showed that knowledge of HIV was adequate in 44.21% of rural residents; knowledge of TB was adequate in 52.66% of respondents; and knowledge of HBV was adequate in 60.18% of respondents. People in older age groups and with lower education levels were more likely to have low levels of awareness of these three infectious diseases. Participants in the farming industry had poorer awareness of HIV and HBV, while students and factory workers knew little of TB. The proportions of people reporting being fully satisfied with the control policies for HIV, TB and HBV were 37.70%, 34.25% and 36.12%, respectively. Conclusions The level of awareness of HIV, TB and HBV is still low among rural residents. Further national disease control plans for major infectious diseases should emphasise effective and comprehensive health education campaigns to increase public awareness of these diseases in rural areas of China.

Abstract:Objective The present study WaS designed to understand the epidemic law of typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever．Analyze the epidemic factors and explore measures for diseases pre-vendon and control Methods A descriptive epidemiologieal analysis WaS made On the data of epidemic situation monitoring for typbold fever and paratyphoid fever in the whole province Re- sults The incidence of typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever was rdafive high from l987 t0 1994． Decreased from 1995 to 1999，but tended to increase year by year from 2000 An outbreak of epi-demic occurred locally in 2004，which made the incidence of the whole province rise significantly， and the mpofled incidence rate reached 17.52／Lakh，with 2665 cases of typhoid fever and 5567 cases of paratyphoid fever．The top 4 of the whole province for incidence of typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever in 2004 were Taizhou (3422 cases，incidence rate：61．56／Lakh)，Ningbo(1450 eases，incidence rate：19．54／Lakh)，Shaoxing(805 cases，incidence rate：18 04／Lakh)and Wen- zhou (1280 cases，incidence rate：17．08／Lakh)，and the total cases of the four regions were 84．51％of the reported cases for the whole province．Shellfish have become an important factor for incidence of typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever in coastal areas．Conclusion The compm-hensive monitoring work for pmducts including seawater aquatic products shouM be strengthened o control outbreak of cyphoid fever and paratyphold fever．

Abstract:Risk factors associated with highly pathogenic avian influenza(HPAI) were investigated and assessed to measure the risk of HPAI occurrences in Zhejiang province.The risk level was categorized into 4 classes(extremely high,high,medium,and low).Risk factors of maternal antibodies,immunity antibodies,poultry density,facility and geographical position of farms,mixed feeding,waterfowl and migratory birds and live birds market etc.were assessed quantitatively.The results showed that the HPAI outbreak risk is 0.66875,which belongs to medium-level.The results suggest that risk of HPAI outbreaks is still in Zhejiang province.The important problems were found through the investigation and analysis,and the results provides a basic reference for the prevention and control of HPAI in Zhejiang province.

Abstract:The Rice black-streaked dwarf viral disease(RBSDV),transmitted by the small planthopper Laodelphax striatellus Fallen,is one of the most destructive diseases in rice.In order to control this disease,a provincial collaborative research was conducted across the Zhejiang province,China,during 2000 to 2005.The epidemiology,causes of resurgence and damage-yield loss relationship were understood and were applied to design the field sampling and forecast methods,and to determine the economic thresholds of the disease through control of the insect vector.A provincial disease alert system including the GPS,GIS and RS approaches,and an estimation model for virus-infestation in rice were established and were used for long-term forecast of the disease.A new management strategy was proposed which integrated the extension of RBSDV disease-and vector-resistant varieties,improvement of seedling nursery,healthy cultivation of diseased hill gap-filling by removing tillers from nearby healthy hills,and control of insect vectors in the seedlings stage to protect rice plants from the viral disease in field stages.An integrated RBSDV disease management technical system was therefore shaped for the Yangtze Delta region,and applied in large scale,effectively reduced the disease occurrence and damage,achieved significant economic and social effects.
Evaluation of the Prevention and Control Capability of Emerging Infectious Diseases in Heilongjiang Province

Abstract:Objective To explore the advantages and disadvantages of prevention and control capability of emerging infectious diseases of Heilongjiang, and provide a scientific references for improving it. Methods Policy documents, public information reports and research literature on the prevention and control of infectious diseases were collected until December 31, 2020. Based on the evaluation criteria and models of the suitable public health system, descriptive analysis and comparative analysis were used to systematically evaluate the level of prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases in Heilongjiang. Results Since 2002, the suitable degree of prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases has increased by 163.7 %. In 2020, the suitable degree score in Heilongjiang was 748.8, which was 7.3 % lower than the national average score. In terms of factors, Heilongjiang has a good basis for controlling health risk factors, which has the highest suitable degree score（724.1）. While the lowest suitable degree score of resource allocation（403.4） requires urgent attention. Conclusion The overall capability of prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases in Heilongjiang has gradually improved, but it is still at the middle and backward level, which needs to be improved. It is suggested to focus on public health literacy, resource allocation and management and operation mechanism.

Abstract:The key factors causing the outbreak of the brown planthopper(BPH) in Yangtze Area in 2005 were analyzed,and the results revealed that the immigrants provided the initial population,but the high growth rate of BPH resulted from the increase of planting areas with single rice crop,favorable weather conditions and unjustifiable pesticide applications were the main parameters causing the outbreak.The high yield losses occurred due to high resistance of BPH to imidacloprid and the delay of pesticide application.A lesson learned from the outbreak is that the most important thing we should do to improve BPH management is to establish a sound rice ecosystem that can effectively reduce the growth rate of BPH population.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological characteristics of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) in Heilongjiang province from 2008 to 2015 and provide scientific basis for the development of TB control.METHODS: The TB patients were confirmed by chest radiography and sputum examination, and the TB incidence data were from the Chinese Tuberculosis Management Information System, population data were from the National Basic Information System.RESULTS: By the SPSS statistics analysis, there was a total of 280,767 cases of TB registered in Heilongjiang province from 2008 to 2015; the average annual incidence rate was 91.60/100,000, the male incidence rate was 122.81/100,000; the female incidence rate was 59.39/100,000, and TB incidence increased as the growth of age. Farmers' incidence was higher than other occupations; Shuangyashan city incidence of 122.09/100,000 was highest during 13 cities in Heilongjiang province, all above factors existed significant difference.CONCLUSIONS: As a result, TB incidence was higher among the elderly, males and farmers, so it is important to promote the scientific knowledge about the prevention and treatment of TB. In particular, it is necessary to strengthen the health education of the elder aged people and improve the self-care awareness and ability to prevent TB.

Abstract:Heilongjiang Province is the main grain producing region in China and an important part of Northeast China Plain, which is one of the three black soil belts in the world. The cultivated region of black soil accounts for 50.6% of the black soil region in Northeast China. Due to the obvious rise of temperature and uneven distribution of precipitation in the 20th century, it has been considered to be one of the important reasons for agricultural drought and aridity. Under the background of climate change, understanding the multiyear changes and occurrence characteristics of cultivated land drought in different agricultural regions in Heilongjiang Province is of great significance for the establishment of agricultural drought prediction and early warning system in the future, guiding agricultural high-standard farmland irrigation in different regions, promoting black soil protection, and then improving grain yield. This paper calculates the temperature vegetation drought index (TVDI) based on the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and surface temperature (TS) product data of MODIS from 2000 to 2021. Taking TVDI as the drought evaluation index, this paper studies the temporal and spatial variation distribution characteristics and occurrence frequency of drought in the whole region and four agricultural regions of Heilongjiang Province: Daxing an Mountain and Xiaoxing an Mountain (region I), Sanjiang Plain (region II), Zhangguangcai Mountains (region III), and Songnen Plain (region IV). The results show that medium drought generally occurred in Heilongjiang Province from 2000 to 2021, accounting for about 70% of the total cultivated land. The drought was severe from 2000 to 2009 and weakened from 2010 to 2021. In the 110 months of the crop growing season from 2000 to 2021, about 63.84% of the region suffered more than 60 droughts. It is found that the frequency of drought varies from region to region. More than 80 droughts occurred in the west of region IV and the middle of region II. The characteristics of region IV are large sandstorm, less precipitation, and lack of water conservancy facilities, resulting in frequent and strong drought. It is also found that the occurrence frequency, degree grade and regional distribution of drought are closely related to seasonal changes. In spring, the occurrence grade and frequency of drought in region IV are the strongest and the drought phenomenon is serious. In autumn, drought is frequent and distributed in all regions, but the grade is not strong (mainly medium drought), and the drought phenomenon is medium. It is humid in summer. Crops in Heilongjiang Province are one crop per annual. Spring drought seriously restricts the water content of crops. Long-term drought will lead to poor crop development and reduce yield. Therefore, only by clarifying the characteristics of regional time drought, monitoring accurate drought events and accurately predicting the occurrence of drought, can we guide high-standard farmland precision irrigation, improve crop yield and ensure national food security. At the same time, severe drought will affect the terrestrial ecosystem, resulting in the distribution of crops and microorganisms, and the transformation between carbon sink and carbon source.

Impact of Climate Change on Crop Yields in Heilongjiang Province

Abstract:Climate warming was significant in recent 20 years in Heilongjiang province.Many researchers found that increase of heat was beneficial to agricultural production except for drought and meteorological disasters in this province.The existing researches neither fully considered the spatial difference nor the impact of economic factors.In order to disintegrate physical and economic factors in grain yields more reasonably and analyze their different impacts on changes of yields in Heilongjiang Province,we collected the data of agricultural production(labors input,power input,irrigation input,fertilizer input,agriculture output,grain yields,and sown area of crops)from 1986 to 2000 in 79 counties of Heilongjiang Province,based on which grain yield(Y) was divided into climatic yield(Yc) and economic yield(Yt) by the method of Cobb-Douglas Production Function.Daily temperature and precipitation of 30 weather stations were used to calculate accumulated temperature ≥10℃ and precipitation during growing season.EOF method was applied to analyze the spatial and temporal characteristics of grain yield,climatic impact index(Yc/Yt),accumulated temperature ≥10℃ and growing season precipitation whose relationships were also considered.The results showed that grain yields of the whole province steadily increased during the past 15 years.Fertilizer was the leading driving force of economy that influenced the economic yields.Labors and RD Fund Input in agriculture were not as important as fertilizer input.At the same time, power and irrigation input played the relative less roles in so many economic factors.Climate warming was significant from 1986 to 2000 in Heilongjiang Province.Accumulated temperature ≥10℃ increased 21-27℃ per year,benefiting agricultural production in most parts of the province.However,no obvious precipitation trend of growing season was found,and the change of precipitation didn't essentially affect crop yields.The climate impact index increased during 15 years with different temporal and spatial variations.From 1986 to 1993,accumulated temperature ≥10℃ increased more obviously in the northern and southwestern parts of the province than the northeastern and southeastern parts,which had greater impacts on crop yields.While the converse situation existed from 1993 to 2000.Accumulated temperature ≥10℃ increased much more obvious in the northeastern and southeastern parts than the northern and southwestern parts,so did crop yields.

Abstract:Accelerating the development of agricultural cold chain logistics is of great significance to improve the competitiveness of agricultural products, increase rural incomes and ensure food security. The present situation and main problems of agricultural cold chain logistics in Heilongjiang Province were analyzed from five aspects, such as the scale of construction, infrastructure, status quo of cold chain logistics technology, cold chain logistics enterprises and development environment, and proposed that Heilongjiang Province should focus on the development of poultry, fruit and vegetable, aquatic products, and processed food cold chain, then the strategic implementation measures for above areas were put forward.

Abstract:Based on the situation of frequent outbreak of rice planthoppers in China, historical data collected from paddy fields without any insecticide application in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, located in Yangtze Delta area, since late 1970s were used to analyze the interactions between outbreaks of small brown planthopper, brown planthopper and white backed planthopper and environmental factors, especially for changes of agricultural practices, and understand their mechanism.The new management strategy through improving cropping system, adjusting planting time, using resistant varieties and managing chemical inputs is proposed.

Abstract:Since the 1st green revolution,pest problems were getting more serious as significant reduction of natural regulation function in rice ecosystem resulted from susceptible high yielding varieties and heavy use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in large areas.To reduce pest problems,technology and strategies for pest management have been going through four phases,chemical control,primary integrated pest control,pest management and ecological engineering.However,new problems including serious yield losses caused by small insects,simultaneous outbreaks of multiple diseases,succession of weeds and genetic resistant problems although heavy yield losses have been retrieved.In order to accomplish the sustainable intensified agriculture,plant protection workers should work together with scientists in other disciplines to enhance natural regulating functions in rice ecosystems,coordinated innovation to develop new technology and management system for implementing green plant protection strategies from the view of healthy rice ecosystems.

Abstract:Heavy metal contamination in agricultural soils has attracted increasing attention in recent years. In this study, 1999 agricultural soil samples were collected from 11 cities in Zhejiang Province from 2016 to 2020, and the spatial and temporal variation characteristics of 3 of the most important heavy metals, i.e., lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) were analyzed. The results showed that Cd had a slightly higher sample over-standard rate of 12.06%. Spatial distribution and temporal trends showed that the Pb concentrations overall increased from 2016 to 2020 and mainly accumulated in southern Zhejiang. In addition, multiple exposure routes were evaluated for human health risks. Children are more susceptible to the adverse effects of heavy metals in agricultural soils, and oral ingestion was the major exposure route. Cr poses higher human health risks to humans than Pb and Cd in agricultural soils. Therefore, more rigid environmental monitoring and related soil remediation counter-measures for some sites with high concentrations of heavy metals are necessary to limit the potential threat to human health.
Rice Yield Loss Caused by Rice Stripe Disease and Economic Threshold

Abstract:Rice stripe disease,transmitted by the rice small brown planthopperLaodelphax striatellus Fallén(Homoptera: Delphacidae),has been a severe devastating disease in Northern Zhejiang,China since 2004.To understand the relation of rice grain yield loss to the incidence of the disease and the density of the vector,a series of experiments were conducted from 2004 to 2006 in rice fields.The results showed that the incidence of the disease(Y1) at the seedling stage increased with the increasing density of infectious vector(X2) as the equation of Y1=0.0873 + 1.0757X2,while the rice yield loss(Y,%) increased positively in a linear mode with the incidence(X,%) in the single-cropping late rice asY=0.1254 + 0.7551X.The economic injury level(EIL) was calculated as 2.0%-2.5% of yield loss according to the current economic scenarios for rice production for the control of the disease.Therefore the economic threshold for controlling the disease was set as the density of 2-3 per square meter of the small brown planthopper in the seedling nursery and at the early stage in rice fields.Such economic threshold has been practically applied in control of the disease in large scale fields and a significant economic benefit has been achieved.

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the peripheral water pipe network quality and health status of rural water plants of zhejiang,to provide a assurance for the dirkning water qulailty in rural areas,and prevent from the poisoning and water-borne diseases that are resulted from unquality of the peripheral water pipe network.Methods: Select the representative monitoring points to have a questionnaire investigation about the peripheral water pipe network of villages,and the drinking water samples from different approachs of rural water plants and diferent water types of the peripheral water pipe network were collected in wet and dry season,then the water quality was analyzed and assessed according to the related standards and regulation.Results: In 403 towns of monitoring points,about 81.44% of rural population drink the water from rural water plants,the pass rate of composite indexs in wet and dry season,which are count by different approachs of rural water plants and diferent water types of the peripheral water pipe network,are 93.58% and 94.03% respectively.Conclusion: The pass rate of composite indexs in the peripheral water pipe network of rural water plants is relatively low,which is related to imperfect of process and irregular disinfection.

Abstract:Based on the data included in annual reports of ″National Statistical Tables of Growing Status on Major Agricultural Crop Varieties in China ″provided by China National Agricultural Service Center under Ministry of Agriculture,the authors analyzed the status and trends of hybrid rice development in the past 15 years(1990—2004),which includes the changes of the number of hybrids derived from different major MS lines and their growing areas,and discussed the trend and direction for sustainable development of hybrid rice in China in the future.
Comprehensive evaluation of health effect of notifiable infectious diseases in China

Abstract:Objective To investigate the degree and trend of health hazards of notifiable infectious diseases from 2004 to 2013 and to identify the key infectious diseases in the current and near future in China. This study almed to provide the evidence for the health policy making and health resources allocation. Methods The surveillance data of infectious diseases from 2004 to 2013 were collected from China CDC Information System. The comprehensive index method was used to combine the index mortality and morbidity, and then the health effect index (HEI) was first created to compre-hensively measure the hazard degree of the infectious diseases. Descriptive statistical analysis and regression analysis were used to investigate the characteristics and changing trend of the HEI over the past ten years. Two-dimensional quadrant method was used to identify the key infectious diseases that with high HEI and significant increased trend of the HEI. Results The infectious diseases with top 3 HEI were tuberculosis, viral hepatitis and alDS from 2004 to 2013, of which HEI were 1.29, 1.08 and 0.80 respectively. The infectious diseases, whose HEI increase most signifi-cantly, were hand foot and mouth diseases (HFMD), alDS and syphilis (b=0.17, 0.09, 0.02, P<0.05). Results of two-di-mensional quadrant method showed that alDS in quadrantII(HEI>range/2 and increased significantly), tuberculosis and viral hepatitis in quadrant Ⅳ (HEI>range/2), and HFMD, infectious diarrhea disease and syphilis in quadrant Ⅰ(HEI increased significantly), which were all the key infec-tious diseases in China. Conclusion The comprehensive index method and two-dimensional quadrant method can be used to evaluate and identify health hazard degree effectively. The key infectious diseases in China are tu-berculosis, viral hepatitis, alDS, HFMD, and syphilis in the current and near future.
