Abstract:Two kinds of red-brown cystals are generated by mixing aqueous solutions of [Co (L)_3] (L=ethylenediamine and 1,2-diaminopropane) and K, [Fe (CN)_6]. The resultant is determined by elemental analysis, UV-visible spectrometry and IR spectroscopy. It has been established that two kinds of cyanide-bridged complexes [Co(L)_3~-NC-Fe(CN)_4~-CNCo(L)_3] are formed.

Abstract:Two compounds containing cyanide {Ni(1, 10-phen)(2)O2MoS2 (CuCN)}(n) and [ZnCu4 (CN)(6) (dmf)(4)](n) have been synthesized. The FTIR spectra and the crystal structure of those clusters have also been deal with. The stretching frequency of cyanide is alterable with the different coordinated environments.
Synthesis and Characterization of a New Cadmium Framework Based on 2,5-Dimethyl-1,3,4-thiodiazole and Dicyanamide Anion

Abstract:Using the 2,5-dimethyl-1,3,4-thiodiazole (L) ligand and bridging dicyanamide anion, a new CdII complex [Cd0.5(L)(H2O)(cyanourea)] [Cd(N(CN)2(H2O)]n (1) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. The fundamental structural unit of the title complex contains two CdII centers, two neutral free L ligands, two bridging dca anions, one bridging cyanourea ligand and three terminal coordinated aqua molecules. It is noted that the cyanourea ligands are not used as the starting materials and formed from dicyanamide simply by hydrolysis. To the best of our knowledge, cyanourea represents the first example to participate in the coordination of metal ions in coordination chemistry up to now.

Abstract:A three-dimensional complex {[Cu(amet)(2)](2)[Fe(CN)(6)]}(infinity) (amet = NH2CH2CH2OH) has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, Mossbauer spectra and magnetic properties. X-ray diffraction analyses show that the complex belongs to the orthorhombic space group of Pnnm with a = 11.649(2)a, b = 11.860(2) Angstrom, c =7.944(2) Angstrom, V = 1 097.5(4)Angstrom(3), Z = 2. The three-dimensional complex consists of chain unit {[Cu(amet)(2)](2) [Fe(CN)(6)]}(infinity), in which each Fe2+ is octahedrally coordinated and each Cu2+ is in the environment of triangular dipyramid.

Abstract:Using different cyanometallate building blocks ([(TpR)Fe(CN)3]–) and pyrazino[2, 3-f][1,10]phenanthroline (dpq) ligand, three cyanide–bridged {Fe2Co2} tetranuclear complexes {[(Tp*)Fe(CN)3]2[Co(dpq)2]2[ClO4]2}·4H2O (1), {[(Tp4-Me)Fe(CN)3]2[Co(dpq)2]2[ClO4]2}·4H2O (2) and {[(Tp)Fe(CN)3]2[Co(dpq)2]2 [(Tp)Fe(CN)3][ClO4]}·2CH3OH·5H2O (3) were synthesized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction study showed that all compounds shared the similar square tetranuclear structures. Magnetic study indicated that 1 maintained the high-spin state for the CoII ion in the whole temperature range, and showed the ferromagnetic interaction between low-spin FeIII and high-spin CoII ions. In contrast, 2 and 3 showed thermally and photoinduced intramolecular metal-to-metal charge transfer (MMCT) between the FeII/III and CoII/III redox pairs. The comparison study suggested that the electronic and steric effects of the substituents in cyanometallate building blocks as well as the intermolecular interactions can affect the redox potential of metal ions, thereby resulting in different MMCT properties.

Abstract:C-functionalized dioxotetraamine 6-(5'-8'-hydroxyquinolinic)methylene-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclo tetradecane-5,7-dione ligand, containing two independent chelating groups, L has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, mass spectra and H-1 NMR spectra. The pH titration has been performed to study the stabilities of L-5-R-1,10-phenanthroline-Cu(II) with proton, copper(II) and cobalt(II). The results show that for Cu2+ and Co2+, 8-hydroxyquinoline is a stronger chelating reagent than dioxotetraamine macrocycles. Using molecular mechanics (MM+) calculation, the stability of ternary mixed system on Co(II)-L-5-substituted- 1,10-phenanthroline-Cu(II) and Cu(II)-L-5-substituted- 1,10-phenanthroline Cu(II), compared with the coordination ability for different coordination sites and for different metal ions [Co(II) and Cu(II)] at same coordination site have been studied.

Abstract:Using the half-sandwich tricyanometalate, KCpCo(CN)3 (1, Cp=cyclopentadienyl), as the building block, two new cyano-bridged heterobimetallic complexes, [{CpCo(CN)3}2M(H2O)2]·2H2O (M=FeII, 2; CoII, 3), have been synthesized and characterized. They are isostructural and show two-dimensional network layer structure. The magnetic studies have been investigated and there exists antiferromagnetic interaction in both complexes 2 and 3.

Abstract:Reaction of K3[Fe(CN)6], NiCl2 and diethylenetriamine (dien) resulted in the formation of a cyanide-containing heterometallic compound [Ni(dien)2]2[Fe(CN)6]·4H2O 1. The structure consists of two octahedral [Ni(dien)2]2+ cations, one octahedral [Fe(CN)6]4− anion and four crystallization water molecules, which are held together by hydrogen-bonding interactions. Its TG curve exhibits two stages of mass loss. Compound 1 in DMF solutions has a very strong third-order non-linear optical (NLO) behavior with an absorption coefficient and refractive index α2 = 1.10 × 10−11 m w−1, n 2 = −3.05 × 10−19 m2 w−1, respectively, and third-order NLO susceptibility χ(3) 4.34 × 10−13 esu.

Abstract:The reaction of mononuclear [Co-II(Me(6)tren)Cl](+) precursors and diamagnetic [Fe-II(CN)(6)](4-) building blocks affords a cyanide-bridged hexanuclear FeCo5 complex featuring square-pyramidal architecture. The dc magnetic susceptibility data and theoretical calculations reveal that the complex exhibits a well-isolated S = 15/2 ground state composed of c-coupled S = 3/2 Co2+ ions. The ac magnetic susceptibility data further reveal that the complex exhibits slow magnetic relaxation under an applied field due to the presence of considerable easy-axis magnetic anisotropy of the five Co2+ ions. As far as is known, complex FeCo5 is the first square-pyramidal hexanuclear single-ion magnet.

Abstract:The reactions of [MIII(CN)6]3− (M = Cr or Co) with CuII complexes of a tridentate schiff base [Cu(aemp)Cl] or [Cu(aemp)Ac]2 (Haemp = 2-[(2-amino-ethylimino)-methyl]-phenol) give rise to 1D cyanide-bridged bimetallic coordination polymers [Cu4(aemp)4(H2O)2][Cr(CN)6]Cl (1) and [Cu3(aemp)3(H2O)][Co(CN)6]·2H2O·MeOH (2). In complex 1, the six cyanide ligands of the [Cr(CN)6]3− moiety are involved in bridging, while in complex 2 only five cyanide ligands act as bridges to give a neutral chain. Magnetic studies reveal that complex 1 exhibits intermetallic ferromagnetic coupling, with J = 8.2 cm−1.

Abstract:Two novel isostructural cyanide‐bridged hexadecanuclear complexes with the general formula {[Fe(CN)6]6[M{en(Bn)py}]10}2+ [M = Fe (12+), Ni (22+)] have been synthesized. The structural analyses disclose the presence of multivalent Fe centres with different spin states in complex 12+ whereas all the Fe centres share a conserved oxidation state in complex 22+. The DC magnetic study revealed antiferromagnetic interactions between the adjacent metal centres and ferrimagnetic behaviour in 12+. On the other hand, ferromagnetic interactions were observed in complex 22+ due to nearly orthogonal orientation of the interacting orbitals and poor spatial overlap as observed in BS‐DFT calculations.

Abstract:Four cyanide-bridged bimetallic Ni(II)–Fe(III) complexes have been synthesized and characterized in order to find new molecular materials with interesting magnetic properties. One-dimensional complexes of pentacyanoferrite(III), [Ni(2,3,2-tet)Fe(Him)(CN)5]·3H2O (1), [Ni(3,2,3-tet)][Fe(CN)5(Him)]·2H2O (2), [Ni(3,2,3-tet)][Fe(CN)5(1-CH3im)]·4H2O (3), and [NiL1][Fe(CN)5(1-CH3im)]·3H2O (4) have been prepared and characterized by X-ray single-crystal structure analysis and magnetic measurements. All complexes possesses linear or zigzag chains of alternate [Ni(L′)]2+ and [Fe(L)(CN)5]2− units, which are linked by two trans/cis cyanide ligands of [Fe(L)(CN)5]2−. Magnetic studies reveal that they exhibit intermetallic ferromagnetic coupling and long-range antiferromagnetic ordering. The strength of the Ni(II)–Fe(III) magnetic coupling has been analyzed by comparison with the related cyanide-bridged Ni(II)–Fe(III) complexes.

Abstract:Three cyanide-bridged Fe (Ⅲ)-Cu(Ⅱ) complexes derived from[Fe(CN)5L(superscript 2-) [L=1-methyl-imidazole(1-Meim) or imidazole (Him) and Cu (Ⅱ) macrocyclic building blocks were synthesized and their crystal structures and magnetic properties were studied. Structural analysis shows that they have one-dimensional chain structures. Each Cu (Ⅱ) ion possesses an elongated coordination geometry with two cyanide nitrogen atoms situated at the-trans-axial positions, and in turn each Fe (Ⅲ) connects two Cu (Ⅱ) ions with two cyanide ligands, generating alternate chainlike structures. Magnetic measurements show that two complexes display ferromagnetic interaction, and one compound exhibits unusual antiferromagnetic property.

Abstract:A bimetallic compound [Cu(dien)](3)[Fe(CN)(6)](2).6H(2)O (dien = diethylenetriamine) has been prepared and its crystal structure determined: space group P2(1)/a, a = 14.896(3), b = 14.128(5), c = 20.267(6) Angstrom, beta = 96.31(3)degrees and Z = 4. The structure consists of a one-dimensional chain of {[Cu(dien)](2)[Fe(CN)(6)]}(+) cations and binuclear {[Cu(dien)(H2O)][Fe(CN)(6)]}(-) moieties bridged by one CN- ligand of the [Fe(CN)(6)](3-) anion. The chains are linked by hydrogen bonds giving rise to a unique step-shaped two-dimensional network. In the crystal all the copper(II). ions have a distorted square-based-pyramidal geometry. From magnetic susceptibility measurements the complex weak ferromagnetic interaction between the copper(II) and iron(III) atoms.

Abstract:The nitrosyl cyanide Cu(en)(2)Fe(CN)(5)(NO) was prepared by the reaction of Cu(en)(2)Cl-2 and Na-2[Fe(CN)(5)(NO)].2H(2)O in aqueous solution. Single-crystal X-ray structure analysis revealed that the complex assumes a cyanide-bridged chain structure in which iron(II) is coordinated by five cyanide ligands and a nitrosyl group, and copper(II) is coordinated by two ethylenediamine ligands and two bridging cyanide ligands. The copper centres display a typical Jahn-Teller distortion characteristic of octahedral copper complexes with bond distance deviations in lattice symmetry from octahedral ideality: Cu-N(equatorial, mean) 2.010(3) Angstrom and Cu-N(axial, mean) 2.569(3) Angstrom. Infrared and ultraviolet studies shed light on the above molecular structure. A magnetic investigation showed the presence of a weak antiferromagnetic interaction (J = -1.06 cm(-1)) between the copper atoms within each chain through the diamagnetic Fe(CN)(5)(NO)(2-) ions.

Abstract:The research on electron transfer coupled spin transition regulating the valence state and spin state transition of metal ions is promising and challenging. Herein, we report a cyano-bridged {FeIII2FeII2} molecular square complex, {[Fe(Tp)(CN)3]2-[Fe(bnbpen)]2}(ClO4)2·8CH3OH (1·8CH3OH, bnbpen = N,N'-bis-(2-naphthylmethyl)-N,N'-bis(2-picolayl)-ethylenediamine), and its free of solvents form (1). Combined single-crystal X-ray diffraction, temperature-dependent infrared (IR) spectra, magnetic measurements, and Mössbauer spectra reveal that 1·8CH3OH and 1 exhibit reversible one-step and two-step electron transfer coupled spin transition (ETCST) with temperature change, between the low-temperature state {FeII,LS(μ-CN)FeIII,LS}2 (LS = low spin, HS = high spin) and the high-temperature state {FeIII,LS(μ-CN)FeII,HS}2, respectively.

Mono- and Dinuclear Heteroleptic Cobalt Complexes with Α-Diimine and Polyarene Ligands.

Abstract:Reactions of the dimeric cobalt complex [(L(-) Co)2 ] (1, L=[(2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 )NC(Me)]2 ) with polyarenes afforded a series of mononuclear and dinuclear complexes: [LCo(η(4) -anthracene)] (2), [LCo(μ-η(4) :η(4) -naphthalene)CoL] (3), and [LCo(μ-η(4) :η(4) -phenanthrene)CoL] (4). The pyrene complexes [{Na2 (Et2 O)2 }{LCo(μ-η(3) :η(3) -pyrene)CoL}] (5) and [{Na2 (Et2 O)3 }{LCo(η(3) -pyrene)}] (6) were obtained by treating precursor 1 with pyrene followed by reduction with Na metal. These complexes contain three potential redox active centers: the cobalt metal and both α-diimine and polyarene ligands. Through a combination of X-ray crystallography, EPR spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility measurement, and DFT computations, the electronic configurations of these complexes were studied. It was determined that complexes 2-4 have a high-spin Co(I) center coupled with a radical α-diimine ligand and a neutral polyarene ligand. Whereas, the ligand L in complexes 5 and 6 has been further reduced to the dianion, the cobalt remains in a formal (I) oxidation state, and the pyrene molecule is either neutral or monoanionic.

Abstract:Two tricyanometallate precursors, (Bu4N)[(Tp4Bo)Fe(CN)3].H2O.2MeCN (1) and (Bu4N)[(pzTp)Fe(CN)3] (2) [Bu4N+ = tetrabutylammonium cation; Tp4Bo = tris(indazolyl)hydroborate; pzTp = tetrakis(pyrazolyl)borate], with a low-spin FeIII center have been synthesized and characterized. The reactions of 1 or 2 with [Cu(Me3tacn)(H2O)2](ClO4)2 (Me3tacn = N,N',N' '-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane) afford two pentanuclear cyano-bridged clusters, [(Tp4Bo)2(Me3tacn)3Cu3Fe2(CN)6](ClO4)4.5H2O (3) and [(pzTp)2(Me3tacn)3Cu3Fe2(CN)6](ClO4)4.4H2O (4), respectively. Assembly reactions between 2 and [Ni(phen)(CH3OH)4](ClO4)2 (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline) or Zn(OAc)2.2H2O afford a molecular box [(pzTp)4(phen)4Ni4Fe4(CH3OH)4(CN)12](ClO4)4.4H2O (5) and a rectangular cluster [(pzTp)2Zn2Fe2(OAc)2(H2O)2(CN)6] (6). Their molecular structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In complexes 1 and 2, the central FeIII ions are coordinated by three cyanide carbon atoms and three nitrogen atoms of Tp4Bo- or pzTp-. Both complexes 3 and 4 show a trigonal-bipyramidal geometry, in which [(L)Fe(CN)3]- units occupy the apical positions and are linked through cyanide to [Cu(Me3tacn)]2+ units situated in the equatorial plane. Complex 5 possesses a cubic arrangement of eight metal irons linked through edge-spanning cyanide bridges, while complex 6 shows Zn2Fe2(CN)4 rectangular structure, in which FeIII and ZnII ions are alternately bridged by the cyanide groups. Intramolecular ferromagnetic couplings are observed for complexes 3-5, and they have S = 5/2, 5/2, and 6 ground states and appreciable magnetic anisotropies with negative D values equal to -0.49, -2.39, and -0.39 cm-1, respectively.
Three Cyanide-Bridged Assemblies Induced by Positive Ions: Hydrothermal Syntheses, Crystal and Powder X-Ray Structures

Abstract:By using environmental friendly Na3W(CN)8·4H2O as a cyanide source, hydrothermal reaction of CoCl2·6H2O and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) resulted in a cobalt aggregate [CoII(CN)2(phen)]n (1). Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses showed that the framework of 1 is a one-dimensional chiral helical substructure. The self-assembly of NiCl2·6H2O, 2,2’2′-bipyridine (bipy) with Na3W(CN)8·4H2O in superheated water solution generated molecular aggregate [NiII(CN)(bipy)2]2[NiII(CN)4]n (2). For complexes 1 and 2, the comparison between powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and a simulated on from crystal data confirmed that the crystal phase was pure. Magnetic measurements indicate that in the low temperature, complex 1 shows weak ferromagnetic interaction, indicative of spin-canting behavior.

Abstract:The preparation and characterization of a series of dinuclear copper(Ⅱ)complexes, Cu2L2IA(ClO42, are presented. The ligand L is 1,10-phenanthroline(phen), 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline(NO2 phen)and 2,2'-bipyridine, and IA denotes the dianion of iodanilic acid. The complexes are characterized by elemental analysis, IR, electronic spectra, ESR and variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. The coordination geometry of copper(Ⅱ)ion is probably a distorted square pyramid. Room temperature ESR spectra of all the complexes studied show the ΔMs=±2 half field transitions. The variable temperature magnetic susceptibility of Cu2(phen)2IA(ClO4)2 had been measured(4.2~300 K)and the exchange parameter,J, was found to be -29.18 cm-1 using the Heisenberg model. This indicates that an antiferromagnetic interaction exists between the metal ions.

Abstract:The transition metal Cu(II) and Co(II) complexes based on N-(2-pyridyl)-3-pyridinecarboxamide have been synthesised and characterised and single crystal analysis indicated that the two mononuclear complexes self-assembled into supramolecular architectures through intermolecular hydrogen bonding and π–π stacking interactions in the solid state.
